How's everyone liking the update?

I had planned to get straight into the game and start stealing cars, but it didn’t quite go to plan.

The first thing I did was validate my mods, then, of course, I went mod shopping. This meant validating the mods one more time - you can’t be too careful.

When I went into my save files, I chose the file that I’ve been playing since August. I did the resize properties, not understanding that it would delete the entire property.

It wasn’t the end of the world, I’d wanted to rebuild the house anyway (I did have the property saved, but I didn’t want it). So I spent the next few hours building a new home. It’s so much better than the old one, and I think it fits Cahaya better. I completely forgot to take pictures, so I’ll have to do that today.

One thing that was unexpected is that I now have a live-in babysitter. Apparently, one of the babies was at home alone, even though everyone was at home, including 3 adult. Now she won’t leave.

Even though I’ve been busy with updating my various save files and only got to dive into the gameplay for about an hour so far, I really love it. Kudos to the team for also rolling out a new hotfix one day after the huge update :folded_hands:
I can’t stress enough how much the updated aging system made my rotational legacy gameplay system easier. It’s such a relief! Also, how can one not like the outfits for newborns and toddlers? <3 The massively improved UI with the buttons to keep it organized is also very easy on the eye IMO.

There’s a lot more I have to check out in the upcoming days and even weeks, but I’m truly overwhelmed by how massive this birthday update is. Can’t wait to explore more =)

The update is great! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: except for the fact that the seasons cheats are missing. I usually always play in summer and only at Christmas when it’s actually Christmas… I’ve already written it under suggestions, please bring back the seasons cheats for us!

This is one of my concerns with the seasonal festivities. Are we going to be having Christmas every few weeks?

I haven’t played this far myself yet, but judging by how the calendar looks, I assume the xmas event will take place monthly, so every four weeks, but you don’t have to participate.

Quick update:

The family interactions are really noticeable now, the bond between zois is palpable.

and toddlers playing with the duck toy is just adorable.

AN offshoot of the family relationship in my family is that the wife, who is at home with the children 24 hours a day, is pretty fed up with having to do everything in the house on her own (Abraham is still wearing the vest with his mum’s picture on it, he was such a mummy’s boy).

Jennifer hit it off with the neighbour when he came over.

Oh, this update is absolutely fantastic! We can finally carry babies around!

Before, babies felt like interactive pieces of furniture. Just like the babies in The Sims 4. But now, they actually feel like little ‘humans’ you can interact with, exactly like in The Sims 2 or The Sims 3.

Oh my gosh, and on top of that, we can now carry a baby to another house and drop them off! I was playing Christopher and Virginia Kane, and—as all you rotation and legacy players out there have probably experienced—sometimes your inactive households will just randomly have babies behind your back while you’re playing someone else. Well, the Kanes were a little too affectionate with each other, and they ended up having way more babies back-to-back than the two of them could possibly handle at once.

Because they were constantly parenting, they couldn’t eat properly, couldn’t sleep, and couldn’t socialize. They basically ended up in a state of postpartum depression and even started fighting with each other. Thankfully, one of their older kids—who is all grown up and married his childhood friend from the Martin family—has his own household now. I was able to drop the babies off at their place for a bit so the parents could finally get a well-deserved break!

This is exactly the kind of organic feeling I was talking about. That true Sims 2 or Sims 3 vibe! I’m having so much fun I could almost cry.

And another great thing is the update to the shoulder view (when you press the Tab key). Before, it felt so stiff and restricted, almost like someone walking around in a full leg cast. We were basically like Chris P. Bacon—literally unable to look up! But now the field of view has been expanded so much. We can finally gaze up at the beautiful sky, or look straight down at the ground like we’re searching for a dropped coin.

But that actually makes me wonder: are there any plans to add a true 1st-person view in the future?

I’ve always thought that traveling to Cahaya and seeing it in 1st-person would be unbelievably immersive, like experiencing it firsthand. Even with just the normal and shoulder views, it already feels like I’m traveling abroad without actually having to leave my house. If they add a 1st-person view, I have a strong feeling it would genuinely make me feel like I’m physically standing right there in the game.

However, if they are thinking about adding a 1st-person view, I really hope the camera doesn’t clip through walls. That was actually the one thing I loved about the old shoulder view before the update. Since the camera couldn’t pass through walls, it gave me a real sense of physical boundaries, like I was actually taking up space in that room. That part was great.

I’d want a 1st-person view where we can look up at the sky and down at the ground for full immersion, but where the camera absolutely never clips through the walls of a house.

I really hope they keep this up!

For now I haven’t played much yet because I’m dealing with unexpected aging issues and property problems, all my families ended up in the garden and homeless :slightly_smiling_face:

The only thing I can say is that on my PC the graphics and brightness have noticeably improved.

I have not been able to play much. Still in the process of fixing my houses (They all broke after the update).
Here are my observations/feeling so far :

  • Not really happy there are no option to keep the towel (without blur) instead of the underwear which is WORSE for me immersion-wise.

  • Like I said, didn’t play much but it seems we have more UI clutter that we cannot turn off, another negative for me. There are pop-up when you have certain conversations and they seem quite frequent. I think it’s to do with memory but the pop-ups should be optional.

  • The Family bar on the right has increased in size by 3 icons, not good. I really hope they’ll let us modulate the UI without modding in the future, all those tack along and larger size are very much getting on my nerves, especially since there are no option to keep the “clean” previous versions.

  • Conversations seem to be going smoothly, less small talks is a HUGE win for me

  • Baby care is awesome, looking forward to actually playing more when I finished revamping all my houses (half-way done).

  • Flower business looks pretty cool.

  • Not sure how I feel about birthdays, given how quickly zoi moves through the age groups, but if I understand this right, you only celebrate moving to another age group with is nice.

  • The age sliders are pretty barebones and useless. I wanted to make my senior age group last for 28 days. The closest I could’ve picked would have been “x0.33” right? except “x0.33” does not exists. It’s either x0.5 or x0.25 (so 20 days or 40 days)… I don’t use them, not precise enough. Though I’ve already submitted a solution for this on the discord and I think on the forums as well, where going from 0.1x to 10.0x while having the engine round the resulting number as an integer in real time and showing to the right of the bar the new length of age group. If they modify their bars to do that (think how we adjust the time speed in-game), then it will be awesome. Also what happens for half-a-day with current age sliders? If you set Teenager to “0.25” since the group lasts for 15 days. is the resulting length it 3 or 4 ? We cannot tell. it needs improvement for sure, either numerical number for each group as I previously suggested and overwhelmingly loved as a suggestion on the discord, or adjust those current one to be far more precise with a slider bar like the time bar in-game.

I’ll find out more when I actually finish fixing my houses and can actually play a meaningful gameplay session.
The aging issue @mialuce66 mentioned (and I’ve seen other players mention as well) is a HUGE issue, which means half my saves are now on hold until fixed (thankfully I was mostly done with those anyways).

Looks good, but I hope the negatives can be fixed, and the sooner the better !

I set up the sliders by testing them and it seems like it rounds up to the higher number, for example teenagers (default 15 days) with speed 2 becomes 8, but I haven’t checked for all ages.

Keep in mind that it’s not a multiplication, but a division, because we’re talking about “accelerating the aging speed”, so by setting the slider to x4 for example, you divide the days by 4. If instead you set it to 0.5 the days double and at 0.25 they quadruple.

I’ve had quite a few Zois age, I still haven’t figured out based on what and for a couple I resolved it with the trick described in the aging post, but it’s quite cumbersome. However, they had become elderly at 89 days, so I did it, I couldn’t see them aged like that all of a sudden.

I have backup saves, but I would have to redo all the houses :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Thank you for this thread! And I am excited to hear more as I am unfortunately not able to play as much as I would like to over the next weeks….

And the time I had I spent fixing houses so far as @Samuriko said.

Seems the opinions differ quite a bit. What are the most noticeable differences after the patch for you all?

For me, the biggest change is the relationships between zois, they are noticeably improved. Having said that, I’ve been building a lot and have only played a few hours; all of that time has been at home, none of the zois have gone out yet, apart from for work.

The update really made the game better! I like how the relationships between sims have changed. Now the house is noisy with conversations and it makes the atmosphere more lively. It was very frustrating to watch sims constantly doing household tasks as if no one was around them. Before, it was more like cohabitation.

I also noticed changes in the business. My sim now performs work on their own. I don’t need to constantly force them to cook, even though the responsibilities are set correctly. Also, the prepared portion is divided into smaller pieces. On one hand, this is convenient because the plate doesn’t stay on the table after use and it’s easier to fill the refrigerators. The only thing is, I noticed that the profit has decreased and based on the post Baked goods cannot be put on sale as a whole anymore (only portioned) - after Birthday Update it might be related. I would like this to be fixed.

And finally, they added a birthday party! This was really missing.

Jennifer had her first day back at work in her cafe, Big Buns. The whole thing had changed. It wasn’t made clear in the update that this would happen. Also, in the notes, it said that previous builds would be saved so that we could reinstate them, but this wasn’t the case. I did have the original Big Buns on Canvas, but decided to remodel the new version.

I need to get rid of the weird floating roof.

I don’t know why the cafe needed a microphone, but I put one in and 100% regret it. The singing is so bad. Plus I accidentally made a spot for “people” to watch the yoga classes.
