Oh, this update is absolutely fantastic! We can finally carry babies around!
Before, babies felt like interactive pieces of furniture. Just like the babies in The Sims 4. But now, they actually feel like little ‘humans’ you can interact with, exactly like in The Sims 2 or The Sims 3.
Oh my gosh, and on top of that, we can now carry a baby to another house and drop them off! I was playing Christopher and Virginia Kane, and—as all you rotation and legacy players out there have probably experienced—sometimes your inactive households will just randomly have babies behind your back while you’re playing someone else. Well, the Kanes were a little too affectionate with each other, and they ended up having way more babies back-to-back than the two of them could possibly handle at once.
Because they were constantly parenting, they couldn’t eat properly, couldn’t sleep, and couldn’t socialize. They basically ended up in a state of postpartum depression and even started fighting with each other. Thankfully, one of their older kids—who is all grown up and married his childhood friend from the Martin family—has his own household now. I was able to drop the babies off at their place for a bit so the parents could finally get a well-deserved break!
This is exactly the kind of organic feeling I was talking about. That true Sims 2 or Sims 3 vibe! I’m having so much fun I could almost cry.
And another great thing is the update to the shoulder view (when you press the Tab key). Before, it felt so stiff and restricted, almost like someone walking around in a full leg cast. We were basically like Chris P. Bacon—literally unable to look up! But now the field of view has been expanded so much. We can finally gaze up at the beautiful sky, or look straight down at the ground like we’re searching for a dropped coin.
But that actually makes me wonder: are there any plans to add a true 1st-person view in the future?
I’ve always thought that traveling to Cahaya and seeing it in 1st-person would be unbelievably immersive, like experiencing it firsthand. Even with just the normal and shoulder views, it already feels like I’m traveling abroad without actually having to leave my house. If they add a 1st-person view, I have a strong feeling it would genuinely make me feel like I’m physically standing right there in the game.
However, if they are thinking about adding a 1st-person view, I really hope the camera doesn’t clip through walls. That was actually the one thing I loved about the old shoulder view before the update. Since the camera couldn’t pass through walls, it gave me a real sense of physical boundaries, like I was actually taking up space in that room. That part was great.
I’d want a 1st-person view where we can look up at the sky and down at the ground for full immersion, but where the camera absolutely never clips through the walls of a house.
I really hope they keep this up!
