I also have this error in my game. Now I can’t place not only paintings, but also wall lamps, plants that hang on the wall, shelves… The game doesn’t allow placing above a certain height. I’ve never used mods. This bug occurs in a new save file with the latest version. I haven’t checked older saves.
Steps to Reproduce: I just tried to move a painting I drew onto the apartment wall

My Zoi drew a painting of poor quality, and I decided not to throw it away, but to hang it on the wall. But for some reason, I can only do this very low on any of the walls, in any room - flush to the floor, or just slightly above it.
In the screenshots below - the maximum permitted height for placement, and a demonstration of the impossibility of positioning the painting higher. Any height above that is unavailable. The painting does not intersect with anything visible, I haven’t made any changes to the apartment after the lot update, I only bought an easel and put it on the balcony to paint this picture.

Steps to Reproduce:
Paint a LARGE something and try to put it on the wall.
See how extremely limited we can place those in heigth.
Would be nice if this was fixed as there are often furniture this close to the floor and this severely limits where we can place these paintings… Thank You !
Nope. Nothing allows to move the painting higher than the height of the left one on that picture
As soon as you try to move it upwards it becomes red and nothing works.
This is a new issue as of 0.7.x as I was painting before the update and could put these anywhere on the walls.
It seems to only affect the very large paintings, I seem to be able to put small one very high on the same wall, even above the large one who’s stock to the floor.
Same for a medium sized one.
So confirmed, it’s only a bug with the large paintings… as far as I am seeing.

I just checked this in my game. New save. Never used mods. Latest patch 0.7.2. Items from the “miscellaneous” section that hang on the wall are almost all affected by this bug. Lamps that hang on the wall all have this bug. The plant that hangs on the wall is also broken. Previously, any wall-mounted item could be hung at any height with free placement (Alt). Now a lot of items have restrictions on their placement height. The height restriction is random.
I’m here again… this problem was fixed in the latest patch. But then a hot fix came out and now it’s broken again for me. I wonder if it’s happening for anyone else, still? I really hope it gets fixed again, though.
I just went into my game that I use for taking pictures of my custom framed pictures before I upload them to Canvas. I put the largest painting right up to the ceiling with snapping off. Otherwise, it went as high as the painting left of it.
It’s with the painted pictures the ones the zoi’s can create and not the ones that we can customize and yes it’s a bit annoying when you cannot adjust the heigh if you want to use the paintings they are creating as a decoration.
