  • Details: Since the March update, the game has become incredibly laggy. It occurs roughly every 10 to 20 secs in game, paused and unpaused as well, just rotating the camera. I noticed artifacting much worse now following all zois. Previously, it only affected the vehicles and occasionally zois that were running. Now it’s constant. I was hoping the recent hotfixes would help the issue but that has not been the case. The game has been unplayable for me since then on Mac. My settings on are still on the default of Med and I made no additional changes except to see whether turning off Smart Zoi would help. It had no effect and was still lagging. I decided to test this on my Mac Studio, with an M2 Max Chip, 32GB RAM, 1TB drive and the results are the same. The lagging remains.

Hey there, thanks for reporting this issue =)

Can you please take a look at this guide I wrote a while ago? inZOI – Graphics & Performance Guide (What Actually Matters) . It helps to increase performance by adjusting some in-game settings without having you lose too much of the realistic graphics.

Hey There!

I’ll do you one better since your “write up” doesn’t actually include settings for MacOS. These are basically default settings for this device and I’ve used them since the launch on Mac. Since the update was supposed to improve optimization, the result should not have been a lesser quality gaming experience. I shouldn’t have to lower any settings since improvement means better not worse. However, the experience is worse on both Macs that I’ve tested on so far. To be honest, I find the updated lighting to be highly contrast, almost too bright. Bottom line, it appears the update has introduced increased frame drops and stuttering on at least these 2 chips. I don’t play the game enough to test it on my M4. I’ll leave that to the devs  .

Thank you for sharing the in-game settings for Mac. Since I don’t own one, I wasn’t able to include these in my guide, unfortunately :slightly_smiling_face:

The settings are mostly the same though, so I checked and figured these are very performance-hungry ones, that could possibly hinder you from having a smoother gaming experience with inZOI:

  1. Unrestricted FPS → to keep inZOI’s very demanding, RAM-eating systems in check, put a cap on the FPS (I can’t advise you which number to choose since I don’t know your current FPS usage during gameplay)
  2. Occlusion Method → this can highly increase the performance of inZOI on your setup
  3. Cast Shadows (Lighting + Streetlamps) → shadows are always quite demanding, especially in this game, so turning them off can prevent further lags → OR turn the Shadow Quality down to medium

By testing these few steps on your setup, the lags should stop. Once they’re gone, you can even try to turn some of the other settings to high because many of them aren’t as demanding as the ones I’ve mentioned AND the ones mentioned in my guide

EDIT:

Since inZOI is in early access phase and new content keeps getting implemented on a monthly basis, performance stability can suffer sometimes. The team is constantly trying to re-stabilize and de-bug. Unfortunately, that’s very common when dealing with numerous different setup combinations from all over the world.
“Optimization” in patchnotes usually refers to a specific range of currently most-used setups, so it is always possible that others fall through. This doesn’t mean they won’t receive more optimized gameplay later on of course.

As I stated previously, these settings had no issue prior to the latest major update. The unrestricted FPS, has no bearings, I toggle it on and off, but it makes no difference since you’re not getting more than 60 FPS, if you’re lucky. There are some serious FPS drops going on right now.

Once again, I’m not going to drop settings lower. The game already looks terrible at med settings. I’m simply informing on the issue that I’ve seen on at least 2 devices since the latest update. If it never gets resolved, that’s fine too. I’ve already paid for the game. Obviously, these are older chipsets but as a developer, they should have multiple devices to test their software.

As a Mac System Analyst, I have multiple Macs to test software, hence my reason for reporting. Do with this information as you want  .
