exclusive content for hair salons and clothing stores is a total win. my recommendation would be that ALL clothes and hairstyles after you enter live mode should be purchasable, and only be free before starting the game (during character creation) just like in the sims 2.
the clothes you buy would be stored in your wardrobe. that would create more depth and progression in the game and give you a reason to have to visit those places and another reason to earn money.

Also new clothing options should always be avalable at character creation as well.
I really do not want to make a zoi then go out to a store to buy the missing piece and resume configuring my zoi outside of CAZ, it’s just not practical and a waste of time…
Hopefully everything can be purchasable AND put on from CAZ.

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, unlocking clothes and hairstyles through clothing stores and salons is a good idea, because then these stores would actually have a purpose and we’d have somewhere to spend money (I especially loved how buying clothes worked in The Sims 2), but on the other hand, if I want to change the appearance of other characters living in the city who aren’t part of my family, then I’d have to not just open CAS, but play through each of these families and visit the stores before I can change their clothes, which is inconvenient. And I change the appearance and clothes of unplayed families quite often when they age up and so on. So I’d prefer if clothes were locked only for the played family, while we could still change the appearance of the other families freely.

I would love this. It would also add a lot to rags to riches gameplay.
Personally, for me this would be super inconvenient. I really love photographing them and then immediately changing their hairstyle and clothes. If they actually do this, what you’re talking about would make it very difficult for me to create shots so easily. I think it would be better if they released a separate mod for this — that’s if someone really wants everything to be paid, including changing clothes and hairstyles at the salon.
Or you could add such a feature, but where you yourself control whether you turn it on or off. You could also disable it through a cheat code.

I absolutely agree with Samuriko. Locking hairstyles and clothing outside of Live Mode in CAZ is
unnecessary limiting creativity when creating Zois, especially as unlocking is tied to a single ZOI.
-
You can’t preview the hair or clothing in CAZ making it difficult to decide if you “need” it for the Zoi you imagine
-
You can’t fine tune hairstyles when choosing it in the salon, making it necessary to enter edit mode after unlocking to adjust lenght and secondary colors. You also can’t test and preview all of this when initially creating your character so you have to guess everything beforehand.
-
You can’t just create a Zoi for sharing it in Canvas as you are -forced- to give the Zoi at least a random hairstyle, take them into live mode, give them a lot, walk them to the salon and unlock the hairstyle just to “finish” them. BUT even if you do others won’t be able to just download and use your creation because the hairstyle with all color and lenght settings won’t appear when locked.
Personally it feels rather like a restriction than an enrichment. I can see that some people might love the idea of unlocking new stuff and that’s absolutely fine but there has to be a midway that enriches gameplay on the one hand and ensures unlimited creatios on the other hand.
Possible ways:
- Simply adding a cheat that temporary unlocks all stuff in CAZ (Live Mode AND non live mode)
- OR unlocking stuff permanently unlocks them in non-live mode CAZ for every new character. If you use anything that would be normally locked the newly created Zoi simply starts with that stuff already unlocked (als long as you unlocked it once with any character)
- OR put any clothing and hair behind a lock but also make anything usable when creating a new Zoi. Zois automatically unlock anything used by the time you created them but anything else must be bought / unlocked in the live mode. This way you won’t restrict creativity when creating new characters but make “collecting” new clothing and hair meaningful for every single Zoi. Or maybe tie unlocks to a whole household - still enough “work” to unlock stuff but a bit less tedious.
And there might be more ideas and ways that would satisfy both - people that want freedom to create and people that want the journey to unlock things step by step. But in my opnion the way it is now just feels like a limitation with unnecessary complications to achieve simple things like creating and sharing a character I just imagined or recreated from a videogame reference…

Thank you for putting it more eloquently that I did
I agree with this too. It’s a great idea to have all clothing and hairstyles purchaseable, but all of them should be freely available in CAZ, which means that creativity is not stifled when creating or editing zois.
Hopefully that would mean that editing npcs would not be restrictive or inconvenient, either.
