Today is Zarek’s birthday!! 
He’s six years old today. We always make kitty birthdays very special because they’re our babies. We got special gifts for all the cats, but the most spectacular gift of the day was given to Zarek to play with first: a brand new catnip banana! 
Nom! It’s the good stuff. The banana is full of the best catnip—according to our cats. It has to be good, though, because they have some smaller fish toys of the same brand that are six years old now, and the cats still enjoy the catnip in them.
When the catnip kicked in. 
I have a cute picture of him cradling his favourite new mouse toy, but I have to show how fun it was when Lumi got to play with the banana.
She was timid at first—probably thinking it was only for Zarek. She doesn’t want to compete with the boys for anything other than bragging rights. After a few minutes, she got so playful that she gently hit me with her paw (no claws out). I was so happy I captured the moment!

His birthday is far from over. We still have more games planned for the kitties, but Zarek took a moment to think about how awesome his birthday has been so far. 
His birthday isn’t over, but I won’t post any more pictures today.
