Please consider walls as a real barrier when Zois select the nearest seat

I had observed this already in the past but in this case it was so obvious that I am sure the Zois do not consider walls as a real barrier when choosing the next possible seat. This should be handled differently. They should consider not the next nearest but the shortest walking distance item.

See here my Zoi is sitting on the terrace and playing guitar. So far so nice.

But see here - marked in blue - this is where the guitar stands. And then see in red her walking path to the lounge chair. This chair is obviously the nearest in distance but as there is a wall in between definitely not the nearest to walk to. And on her path there would have been several other seating options - in green - which she did not choose to walk to exactly this chair.

I have that impression as well.

From what I observe, it seems to be the routing in general, especially when walls are involved.

Per example, I have a garbage can inside my kitchen and one in the front yard. Instead of using the one in the kitchen, my Zoi goes all the way through the hallways and doors and throws the trash out outside. The “path” to the garbage can outside would be shorter, but only without the walls. The kitchen garbage can is objectively closer because it doesn’t have a wall as obstacle. But since, as you observed, the wall doesn’t seem to count as an obstacle, the game thinks “Oh, the yard garbage can is closer”. It really is annoying and I absolutely agree that the routing needs to be optimised.

Aha! Interesting observation with the garbage can. This proves the point even more as it is basically the same logic as my Zoi with the guitar.

I have also seen this with eating. If the kitchen is near to the wall and behind the wall is the outside terrace with a table they often pass through the kitchen right by the dining table inside and walk all the way through the house to go and eat at the terrace table outside.

I think they actually promised to improve routing in the upcoming update, didn’t they? Or am I mixing things up, and the current version already has this?

I really hope that what comes out on September 3rd will completely and fully solve all these issues! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :folded_hands:

@Carnel Oh really? Was this planned for this update? That would be great but I somehow thought they talked about it a longer time ago. Still might be that it was not part of the last update yet.

In my opinion, all the recent videos dedicated to this came out right after 0.9.6. So I’m taking it to mean that the pathfinding trajectory will be improved in the upcoming update.

Of course, I could be wrong. But I really hope I’m not

@Carnel I really, really hope that you are right  :crossed_fingers:

Same with reading a book - same place as with the guitar. Bookshelf is next to a outside wall an behind the wall there is the lounge chair. Same unlogical pathway as for the guitar…

I was wondering yesterday why they kept going outside in front of the house. Now I understand why. I thought kissing in the house had recently been banned. :joy:

Totally, many times I was like O.o where are you going? I think it would be really good to fix this.

@Ivlaya and @Sephrenia thanks for supporting! This really needs a fix. Otherwise we need to design our houses thinking what is on the other side of the wall as the Zoi would always choose this “next” item to him. This is really not very convenient…

This is the situation I was talking about. It happens all the time — they go outside.
