Orphaned children should not be deleted - there's a better solution!

When all adults in a family die, the children should not be permanently deleted from the save. I think a better solution is to stick the children into the adoption system, so other Zois can adopt them!

Awesome idea !

At least I know what to expect. The baby has already lost his dad.

The loss of a family from losing all of the Teens or older really needs to be addressed.

Newborns, Toddlers, Children or Adolescent present in a family where the older zois die, they should get deposited into the adoption pool, keeping their names/personalities and everything else.
At least that way we can fetch them back into other active families or roleplay an uncle/aunt that takes them in or something.

It can be a major issue considering a generation is 42 days (40 + three days of pregnancy, so 40-41-42).
If you wait too long to have your babies, it is VERY possible that the adults will die of old age before your oldest becomes a teenager (which takes 25 days).
Or maybe your eldest is already a young adult by the time you die of old age, but he long moved out with his cute young wife or Girlfriend, or he’s living on his own outside the household.

Fact is, we need that safety net of putting them into adoption.
Thank you.

I agree.

For the problem of age phase imbalance, I’m using stopAging for the parents, but the children shouldn’t disappear under any circumstances

I love the idea. Either the kid go for adoption and we can adopt with another family, or it goes to a ramdon family for roleplay sake. Creating a playable orphanage would be awesome too. The parents should be able to leave a legal will for the kid when adulthood is reached.

It’s a good idea! It would also be nice to add the ability to write a will, where we could designate relatives or close friends who could become guardians in the event of the death of all adults in the family. And children would automatically be transferred to the guardians.

Also, if a child is taken away by Child Protective Services due to unfulfilled needs, they are removed from the game. It would be better if these children were placed in an adoption pool.

I recently had a situation where the game killed both parents at the same time, while I was playing with another family. The children were under the care of their grandmother (a middle-aged person). When I decided to go to them after finishing my turn with the first family, the game had already deleted (killed?) the grandmother and eliminated the two children  . My suggestion would be that in addition to the option of putting children into the adoption pool, there should also be a message asking whether I want to assign a guardian to these children and continue playing with them or give them up for adoption. Sometimes such children are important from the perspective of the overall gameplay. :folded_hands:

Yes!!! this happened to me. The child was living fulltime with one parent but that parent died… the child should not just go missing or be lost into the game. There should be an option when the child goes into child services or care that the other parent, grandparent or older sibling gets the choice to adopt them. Like a pop up announcing the loss and “do you wish to take on the responsibility of this child”. Its really frustrating because now that child is gone.

You can also add game mechanics and location - staying in a shelter for children. So that we can continue to act out our child characters.

I love this idea! And btw there’s no need to develop and integrate the whole shelter system. For me it will be enough to see the orphaned kid in the adoption list on the computer.

Deleting it is already ridiculous. Your solution is very reasonable. I agree with it.
