Dev Proposal to Shorten Day Length

I have just seen the proposal to shorten the current length of day to about 1/3rd, and the suggested “teleport to work” solution to avoid being late, and wanted to give my feedback on this.

No!! Or at least, make it optional. I have got used to the current day length (default), and I think it works well, personally. There will no doubt be those who would prefer a shorter option, and it would be great to have this too, but please keep the day length settings already available for those who prefer/are accustomed to them.

As for teleporting to work, again, an option for those who prefer it and/or use shorter day duration, but I personally like being able to walk or drive to work (active careers), this makes sense to me for a game based in an open world.

Just my view, others should add their perspectives (the post I read asks for players’ thoughts on this subject!)

I really hope we can keep the options too.
It is planned to reduce the current length of the day (96 minutes) to 48 minutes.
Which would totally destroy my way of playing, I love to be finally able to seize the day to the fullest with my Zois and not to be rushed like in the Sims, where it took me already half of the day to get my Sims on their horses omg :psycat_sad:
inZOI is a life simulation, what’s the point of rushing through the content? ö.Ö

There is a channel for this at the official discord server, please make sure to also leave your feedback there

OMG, TS3 and 4 I literally shouted at the screen because it took so long to get sims on horseback that they had missed the competition by the time they were finally mounted!!

Agreed, I enjoy the more laid-back day length in this game, and feel it is more realistic and immersive. My zois can actually achieve stuff other than go to work each day…

Edit: Btw I loved your content for TS4, pretty sure it was one of your sagas I was glued to for a while

My problem with the change, is that they would calibrate the needs depletion to the 48min.

People just do not realize how much of a bad idea this is. Not only it would make the game unplayable for the longer timespans (having to sleep twice and eat 6x a day in 96min, even worse for the 4h time). But also make it so you now need to sleep and eat MORE in the 48min time. Most of the advantages the 48min enjoyed will be waved, hence them suggesting a “teleport to work”

It’s not just making 48min the new default… it’s changing the speed at which the needs deplete.

The whole thread on Discord started with most ppl FOR the change at first, because there was no mention of the needs being tampered with. Then KJun came back and said that the needs would be rebalanced to the 48min ONLY, as at this time there is no way to have different needs depletion for EACH of the time length.

Then for the next 5 days, everything changed. A LOT of ppl came back to voice their discontent, that they do not want the change afterall if the needs would be altered. It’s day and night as far as voting goes.

Solution would be to postpone such a change until iut can be programmed to have separate needs depletion.
So I am firmly against this changing at all at the moment.

FYI: One of the reasons use 48min to speed-up aging in many cases, trying to get out of the newborn/toddler phases, so it might be more worthwhile for the devs to create a menu to change the length of the age groups, a-la-sims3, but we’ll see how it goes.

I don’t want a 48 minute day length either. I like the 96 minute time and I don’t have problems filling it with things to do. Isn’t there already options to shorten the day length under settings? Leave it adjustable for how people play. This would ruin my gaming experience as well (which I sometimes feel they are intent on doing).

I also would prefer to keep the current day length.

A shorter day would be annoying enough (for me) while playing a single Zoi, but now imagine trying to handle all the needs and activities of a 4-person family within a day that’s only half as long. That’s a lot of frantic clicking! Yikes.

I completely agree. I prefer the 96-minute days myself, but even for those who don’t, this is like 18th on the list of changes most people are asking for. The devs should concentrate on fixing all the stuff that’s incomplete, unbalanced or just broken, rather than messing around with day lengths.

I agree with everything said in this thread! We need to keep the current default at 96 min.

After playing InZoi for months, I played Sims again for the first time, and it left me incredibly overwhelmed when I remembered how fast the days went by. My Sims could barely enjoy their days because it took them so long to start and complete even short activities. I’d look at the clock and think, “Yeah, I’ve got time,” but then I’d look again and all the time was already gone.

With InZoi, I’m never overwhelmed with time rushing by. I can enjoy the game, and my Zoi can enjoy their day. I’m never stressed out playing. I’m never “screaming” at my game when a random glitch may slow interactions down a bit Lol

I can only hope that Kjun means what he said in the letter here:

Some might view asking for feedback each time we begin a major development as a waste of time, but from our perspective, deciding everything ourselves only to learn it doesn’t match what players wanted ends up being a bigger waste of time and resources. Our philosophy has always been to build this game with the community, and we believe that involving you at these stages of development is the best way to achieve our version of success.

Most people on the Discord are in favor of keeping the 96-minute days and are downvoting anyone who says to change it to the 48-minute time, so that is good!

This is why I’ve never understood people saying the Devs need to stop asking for feedback and just do stuff. If they hadn’t asked the players their opinion on this, they would’ve spent all that time, money, and resources working on this massive change that most of the players would’ve hated. That would’ve been a catastrophic waste!

Edit: Here is a pic of that part at the bottom of the letter

I agree with you 100%! The day is fine the way it is, in fact, for me, who plays with large families, it’s way too short, especially on days when the kids are in school.

I even tried playing with the 4-hour schedule, but aside from it being a bit too much, the management of needs was terrible.

I never even considered this aspect; in that case my views on this change are even stronger. A shorter day length for those that want it should ONLY be added if it is possible to calibrate needs decay for each duration option.

Goodness knows this is already required for the longer day cycles, which some do choose to play - but more of us might opt for the chilled-out longer days if the needs were not so ridiculous.

Agree 100% with this. Having only ever played Sims in this genre (for obvious reasons), we probably never even realised how much more pressured the game felt, or how relaxing it could be to have a longer day/night cycle (unless mods for that exist, but I never used any).

I still play Sims games, and unlike them, InZoi has never frustrated me because my zois can’t get everything done in time. I like that chill factor and want to keep it.

THIS!!! I’ve seen a few people say they feel like we’re making the game with our feedback for them and how they feel like they’re basically clueless on how to make a life sim. Kjun has said more than once how this is his first life sim and for many of the other employees working on the game. I don’t think they’re “clueless” it’s just a lot of trial and error, yeah he’s played the sims but that completely different from actually creating one, and with the amount of stuff all of us ask for, it’s definitely a lot to try and accomplish most of it. And like you said ( and funny enough I’ve said the same thing) if they just went and implemented stuff without getting any input first, a majority would be upset. This and the option of having smaller cities going forward was something that I saw people weren’t to keen on having so imagine if they just went and made these changes without saying anything? So I’m glad they ask for our feedback and try to implement it as soon as they can and some of the stuff I saw people ask about in the ama on Reddit are things they’re already working on or things that may have been planned from the beginning but haven’t been added for various reasons .

I completely agree with everything you said whoever asked for this really need to think hard about some ideas like this and how it can effect other players

I just looked over the whole thread again and I really don’t understand this comment from Kjun when so many are opposed to changing the default length of the day to 48 minutes.
When you check the posts with the most reactions, the vast majority wants to keep the 96 minute day as default.
Is this maybe happening because they can’t solve the issues with the needs, the too short interactions with objects and not getting to work/school in time and now they claim it’s what the players want? ö.Ö’
I wouldn’t mind if it was ‘just’ an other option, but it really deeply messes with the other options.

Unfortunately, what might be happening is that those of us who have been enjoying the default 96 minutes have been quietly enjoying ourselves, while players who prefer a short day have been very vocal. Kjun and team has been wonderful so far listening to players’ feedback, so naturally they are responding to what they’re hearing. They certainly need to hear from us before they tamper with the game.

I personally like the default 96 minutes because I try to check up on all of the playable Zois in the city throughout the day. I am amused to see how they live their lives and nudge their behavior to influence their decision-making process. I love the slow focused game play that values observation. I love it the way it is, and I have not even fast forwarded - not even once since the game came out - because time has meaning and consequence to another Zois in the city. I love going about the city with a Zoi, noticing another Zoi that might need my attention, then play them for a while and return back into the first Zoi without missing the day.

Shortening the day to 1/3 of the time will break the whole-city gameplay and make it like the Sims where you play only one household at a time. Please devs, don’t break the game.

I don’t think they’re wonderful at all listening to players feedback. They seem to do what they want and ignore it in my experience. If they make this change, I’m just going back to not playing this game. The sweeping changes they make on a whim are so frustrating to me. Look at the Wishlist section if you think they care about feedback. There’s been plenty people have complained about from the start that they do nothing about while doing things like this.

Yes. We’ve given the devs plenty of time and plenty of feedback.
First on the discord, then here on this forum.

Issues that have annoyed other players and me that were introduced in June (patch 0.20) are still there. Especially the age groups.
There’s 1-2 mods out there but they mess-up character presets and pre-generated families so it’s not really working all that well.
Programming a menu for that would take dev time, but would be the better option, especially if it auto-adjust characters age at prorata (keep same progression you are at in your current age groups for all your Zois).

Then the interface got changed in 0.30 and many asked, as an OPTION, to keep the old interface (smaller portrait, slim emotion bar, and the “Cat’s eye” pointer over controlled Zoi).

In both cases, there was no acknowledgement nor any mention of any menu options for these things.
It’s been more than 3 months since 0.20, and a month since Cahaya.

I want to believe we’re being heard… but there only so much time you can go without hearing anything.
AT LEAST this time, they warned us in advance, and since clarifying the stance on day length versus needs being balanced to only ONE of those settings most ppl are very vocal against it. It’s like 10-to-1 against.

I just wish we’d get a small peep from a dev saying: “ah this issue? it’s been noted down and will be addressed eventually, please be patient.”
Or “We’ve read the feedback and will not be going forward with this new idea for the 48min default at this time. Once we have adapted our game so each one will have balanced needs, we’ll implement it then.”

The silence is deafening on that regards. And I hope we get news soon, even if it is : “we heard you on this feedback.”

Agreed @kaos0007 .

Yeah, same here. Back when they were talking about hundreds of new features in 0.3, I looked at the updated UI and couldn’t believe it… Who asked for this, and when?
It used to feel authentic and airy, immersive, even. Especially those tiny emotion bars, which could’ve evolved into other interesting panel variants, something new. Now it’s just a TS4-style avatar with a massive stat panel like in an MMORPG, as if you need to see every number on screen to dominate, survive, or whatever.
I’ve said it before: inZOI needs a minimalist UI if they’re going for a third-person style.
Leave that overloaded UI with its panels and ad clutter to the MMOs of the past. Don’t put square pegs in round holes.
I just hope the new Moods actually overhaul the old emotion system, not just add another oversized panel on top.

I couldn’t agree more.

When first coming into Inzoi I remember how impressed I was with how sleek and modern the UI looked. It was so easy on the eyes and made the game so much more cinematic. After the updates they made it feel like we are moving backwards..

A requiem for the perfect demo-version UI…:sad_but_relieved_face: so airy, so clean, so transparent. Planner, wishes, maps widgets built right into the phone. You could tuck almost everything in there, mb except the core life-sim controls.
