How to remove mods without corrupting your save?

I removed unnecessary or outdated mods and none of my saves where I used them would open. It only affected hairstyles and clothing.

It happened to me that a message appeared warning that the save might have problems, etc., but then they always worked.

I don’t use mods, but I think this may help. Use the following info after making backups.

This is not a fix, it is a workaround.

When mods are used in a game, the list of mods for that game-save is saved in

Documents\inZOI\ModSave\<folder with game save date>\<folder with game save date and autosave>\ModInfo.json

To open the game saved without mods, backup the relevant ModInfo.json, and replace its contents with

{“ModInfo”:[]}

Just this one line.

Then try opening that saved game.

Edit: I forgot to add, that this hack should normally not be required if you install and uninstall the mods using the recommended procedures. In case the mods are uninstalled, but you still get an error that could indicate that the game is looking for the mod, then this process may help to get rid of the mods-list for that saved game and thereby bypass the error. Hope this helps.
