Intermmediate Modding Tutorial - Hair Weight Painting Tips!

There’s a Modding Contest going on for Inzoi in Curseforge, if you didn’t know, now you know! I wanted to share some tips in the light of the ongoing contest in case it helps anyone.

I’m also working on a tutorial to minimize the detached head preset glitch until we get a hotfix a tutorial for eyes presets and beards! They are not perfect, but they work. I will upload them soon.

Here’s the tips!

:custom_light:DELETING VERTEX GROUPS

First, if your hair is not long-long, on the lower right panel where your vertex are when weight painting, delete everything up until stomach (clicking on “-”).

  • Delete Upperarm_biceps and Upperarm_tricepts for both arms, too. These give more trouble than aid.
  • Delete all the vertex related to the fingers (from index_metacarpal_slide_r to hand_r and the same for the left)
  • Delete all the vertex with “lowerarm_” on their name

:custom_light: SMOOTHING/ MIXING WEIGHTS

On top of the Blender UI go to Brush and select “Mix”, like this:

Now, I will go directly to our habitual suspects and “mix” the weight in these vertex until they look uniformly mid-blue.

trust the process!

clavicle_scap_r
clavicle_r
clavicle_scap_l
clavicle_l
upperarm_twistCor_02_r
upperarm_twistCor_01_r
uppearm_fwd_r
uppearm_fwd_l
upperarm_twistCor_02_l
upperarm_twistCor_01_l

If any front part of your hear has weight on “uppearm_out_” or “clavicle_out” substract all the weight that’s not inmediatly nearby the shoulder.

THE REAL MVPs

Now we are going to work with the vertex that are going to make our hairs look good even without physics.

  • spine_04:

  • neck_01: Make the cursor smaller and smooth it out evenly, until you get a pale blue but only where the hair should bend with the neck

  • neck_02: Make the cursor smaller and smooth it out evenly, until you get a pale blue but only where the hair should bend with the neck

  • Head: this one is quite important, as it’s always abruptly cut/interrupted, which will make your hair bend awkwardly with zoi’s movements. First we will “mix” the weight from the tips to a bit more upwards:

Now we will add / substract to get it to look more gradual. This will be easy as you will see your hair going back to the shape it should have.

Test it while moving your zoi, so you can see if you need to make adjustements on any of the vertex groups mentioned above.

I hope this was helpful in anyway! If you have questions let me know.

Happy zoiventures! :custom_heart:
