How to fix the HYSTERICAL emotional state?

We need a cheat to be able to step out of the HYSTERICAL emotional state. The Zoi is incapable of intereacting normally with anyone, instead it’s constantly slapping it’s thighs hysterically and jumping up and down. This emotion is ridiculous. It comes about apparently from having good experiences with other Zois, and thus becoming HYSTERICAL?! WTF?!

Also, the console could do with a HELP interface. Something like enter “help emotions” or “help moods” or even just plain “help”. The in-game FAQ only guides a player through some expected scenarios, there is no reference to what is possible, what commands/cheats are/not available. It’s extremely frustrating.

If you google for a solution, you get "try to enter a console command cheat of SetEmotion EMOTION_ID, with no trustworthy indication of what this emotion_id might be, nor how it relates to HYSTERICAL. Please help us get out of the HYSTERICAL state, there are a number of ways in which this could be better managed.

You can get a donut. You can do calming activities. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for the leg-up, that was eluding me for the longest while. :+1:

You can mark my message as a solution. :+1:

More on this, because even though my Zois are scoffing doughnuts like they’re going out of fashion, their moods remain “ELATED” or “HYSTERICAL” or “OTHERWISE EXCITED”. My Zois spend half their time breaking any calm conversation they might be having to jump in the air and/or do squats and leaps and punching the air. It’s very painful. Please, please, PLEASE, make a SIMPLE way to CALM everyone DOWN.

Absolutely i don’t think donuts are a solution but merely a work around for the time being. I noticed this happening in my game immediately after the update but it doesn’t happen so much anymore. Have you tried creating a new save and seeing if the issue persists?

That’s very interesting. I can’t say I have that issue in my safe. Hysterical is a very rare status for my Zois, as for the green version (I think elated) of it. Even then, my Zois only do the fist pump in air (or whatever they do in that mood) does not interrupt the interaction, but he only does it when he is idle. So it might be save state related as @Twee said?

I’ve made a new save with a new name, and the Zois behave in exactly the same ELATED manner.

I appreciate your well intentioned efforts which make it seem as though I’m doing something wrong, or my local version of the game is somehow warped. However, this has been happening ever since I first launched the game to experiment with at the end of last year. I do appreciate that this game is complex, and it’s not going to be easy to please everybody, but this really screws with the interactions. It’s impossible to have a “normal” conversation without one of the group beginning to get ELATED or HYSTERICAL or some other out-of-normal-bounds mood.

Can we not just simply have a simple “tone it down” button, or something? Perhaps even an overall MOOD switch for the environment, or current group, or current household, or something simple eg:

  1. Zombie
  2. Calm
  3. Happy
  4. Angry
  5. Elated ← mine always move to here
  6. Hysterical ← or here
  7. Crazy

Within those settings you can play up and down with your emotions, but not crossing from CALM (for 5 mins) to HYSTERICAL (for 12 hours) like it currently does. I’m sorry to go on about this, but it’s such a pain.

I understand that this is an absolute hassle. What I was able to find out is that there are character traits, that have significant influence on these moods. BUT if it’s at a point that it interrupts gameplay, I agree that it needs a rebalance.

To maybe bypass that for now, there is a cheat to “fix” the mood:

Go to Psycat’s Guide / Advice in the bottom right interface menu and toggle “Enable Cheats” on. Press CTRL + Shift + C to open the cheat console. Type the command SetEmotion EMOTION_ID.

Tip: To smoothly drop them back down to a completely standard baseline, change the target ID to a neutral state like CALM or HAPPY.

Thanks for your suggestion, Minthyuyu, this is exactly the kind of cheat I was looking for. I’ve tried this out using the cheat console with the following command: SetEmotion CALM

Absolutely no response from the app. whatsoever. There was no confirmation of that cheat being entered and accepted. There was also no helpful error message eg; “CALM is not a recognized command”. Nothing at all.

The Zoi continued to be ELATED, the game totally ignored the cheat entered, zero effect.

My apologies, I just saw that that cheat doesn’t exist anymore. I rechecked the whole cheats list and it is not there anymore. So right now, only the character traits influence the moodlets, which seem to really need a rebalancing. I assume that I personally don’t have these issues, because my Zoi is a Perfectionist, introverted workaholic

Thank you for checking - I’ll try those characteristics as a workaround.

No problem. I think as long as you (at least for now as a workaround) don’t use any characteristics listed in the upper screenshot, they should fall into the Hysterical/Elated state way less. (Lively, Extroverted, etc)

I’ve now run the following cheat command: setTrait xxxxx Perfectionist Introvert Workaholic
and the cheat was successfully applied in the game.
There is no change to the emotional state of the Zoi, it remains at HYSTERICAL.

I don’t expect it would instantly change the moodlet. It would probably take some time in game to register that you change the characteristics/traits. Only trying to go by trial and error at this point, since I personally don’t have that issue. You might need to “reset” the mood with a donut first.

Thanks for following up here.

Ok, I’ll try with the cheat and a donut, and see how that works.

As I said, at this point I just try to make suggestions, so I cannot guarantee anything. I’m sorry if nothing really helps at the moment

How does this problem still persist? It’s a very interesting situation.
