Different CAZ Clothing Materials

I would love a material-selection system for clothing in CAZ, similar to the material options available for furniture and other objects in Build Mode.

I do NOT mean changing only the color, pattern, or printed texture. I mean choosing the actual material appearance of a garment while keeping the same clothing mesh.

For example, the same jacket could be customised as:

  • denim
  • leather
  • cotton
  • wool
  • velvet
  • silk
  • satin
  • corduroy
  • knitted fabric
  • linen
  • synthetic
  • glossy fabric

Each material could change how the garment reflects light and how its surface appears. Leather could look smoother and slightly glossy, denim could have a visible weave, velvet could absorb more light, and silk or satin could have a softer shine.

Like this, a simple shirt could become casual cotton, elegant satin, or warm knitted fabric without requiring three separate versions of the same mesh.

It would be especially useful for:

  • creating outfits for different seasons and occasions
  • matching clothing to a Zoi’s personal style
  • making formal, casual, alternative, or luxury versions of existing garments
  • reducing the need for many nearly identical clothing items
  • giving player-created patterns a more suitable material underneath.

Ideally, materials could be selected separately for different parts of an item when the garment supports it. Per example, choosing denim for the main jacket, leather for its collar, and metal for its buttons or zipper. We can already change colors of different clothing parts. Changing the material along with it would help making a piece of clothing even more unique.

A more advanced version could slightly influence how fabrics move, such as silk appearing softer and leather looking stiffer. However, even a purely visual material system using different shine, roughness, and fabric details would already add a lot of customisation.

Build Mode already demonstrates how much variety material choices can create. Bringing a similar system into CAZ would allow us to turn one clothing design into many genuinely different-looking pieces instead of changing only its colour or pattern.

For simplicity, it would already be a start to be able to use the Build Mode materials that are already in game.

Here an example picture I generated:

Sims 3 had a similar option:

My good friend you’re amazing. That’s a fantastic suggestion. I want that very much. :innocent:

Thanks Mazi:four_leaf_clover:.

I just think that would give us a lot of creative freedom. The custom textures only get us so far and even with the gloss low, they still have this slight sheen especially in darker colors.

Absolutely. And with this function, the devs also don’t need to put similar looking clothing pieces with different materials, but can focus on giving a good “base” piece of clothing.

We both have the same idea and approach to Sims 3. :innocent:

This is something I noticed right away and I figured that beings it’s early access they will most likely add this feature sooner or later, but looking at how they’ve put multiple jackets and dresses with different meshes they just might not have plans to add textures to clothing.

Great Wishlist idea :+1:t3:

That was also my concern, since we already have multitudes of the same clothing mesh with slightly different materials. So I really hope they will consider this idea.
