Find Household Item/Item Locator (a QoL idea)

I searched around the forum before posting this and couldn’t find a topic specifically about this, so hopefully I didn’t overlook one :four_leaf_clover:. If I did, please leave a comment.

I would like a small QoL feature that lets us locate objects our household already owns.

Especially with larger households and bigger houses, I sometimes have the problem of simply not knowing where something went. Per example a tablet might suddenly be inside another Zoi’s inventory, a laptop could have been placed somewhere on another floor, a book might have been left on a different lot, or something could be sitting inside the household inventory.

Sometimes I genuinely don’t know whether I misplaced something or the game did xD

“Find Household Item”:

There could be a small magnifying-glass button somewhere in the Household, Inventory UI or Phone that opens a searchable list of household-owned objects.

For example:

Tablet — carried by Yuna (in her inventory)

Laptop — Home Lot · Floor 2 · placed on desk

Book (Then the title of the book) — Gaon Café

I deliberately wouldn’t have the game say things like “bedroom” or “living room”, because our rooms aren’t actually assigned that way and players can build however they want. An open-plan room or a desk inside somebody’s kitchen would make that messy pretty quickly. Especially since the game doesn’t distinguish between an open kitchen or a living room locationwise.

Instead, the game could simply use information it already knows: lot + floor + object/container + owner.

What happens when we press “Locate”?:

If the object is currently placed somewhere on the active lot:

Locate → move the camera to it and highlight/pulse the object for a few seconds.

If another Zoi is carrying it:

Tablet — carried by Yuna

→ select Yuna and highlight the tablet inside her inventory.

If it is somewhere on another lot:

Book — Gaon Café

→ offer “Show on Map” or possibly “Travel to Location”. Once we arrive at the lot, we can click the function again and have the camera zoom in then and highlight it.

If it is stored:

Painting — Household Inventory

→ open/highlight it directly there.

There could also be simple filters such as:

Electronics | Crafted Items | Collectibles (like rocks) | Personal Objects (more about this below) | All

This could work really nicely with object ownership

Kjun has already talked about adding object ownership/permissions for individual Zois, and I think a locator could complement that system really well.

For example:

Owner: Minho

Item: Laptop

Current location: Yuna’s inventory

So when Minho’s laptop mysteriously disappears from his desk, I can finally discover exactly who took it.

“…Yuna.”

Optional: Recover inaccessible objects

Maybe there could eventually also be a “Recover Item” option, but only if the game detects that an owned object is genuinely inaccessible, stuck or outside a valid location. Similar to the “Emergency Rescue” for a Zoi, we could “safe” an item.

Something like:

«“This item appears to be inaccessible. Return it to Household Inventory?”»

I wouldn’t want this to become a free teleport button for everything, but it could be really helpful when an Early Access bug makes an object disappear somewhere we can’t reach. I have items disappear inside counters per example. Of course it would be better if objects don’t bug to begin with, but glitches can always happen.

It’s definitely not a giant gameplay system, but I think it could save a LOT of:

“WHERE DID MY TABLET GO???”:distorted_face::distorted_face:

Please feel free to add more ideas/improvements/constructive criticism :four_leaf_clover:

I completely agree with this. I’m constantly looking for the tablets. I had a household with six Zois, and you just keep searching and searching…

I often have the situation, that family members just take the laptop of my teen Zoi and he still needs to finish an assignment for school and I cannot find it… It will probably get better once we can assign ownership, but I imagine that other Zois can still put it somewhere else or we forget to assign ownership to that one specific item. So I really do think that system could be helpful

This just happened: I wanted him to mine some ore, but then I realized the pickaxe is no longer in his inventory. Where did he leave it? Where am I supposed to look for it? It could be anywhere, right?

And this is a perfect example for why a function like this would be useful x_x

I support the idea!

But as for the tablets most of the time these have been stolen by the babysitters  Would be funny if the game would then tell “stolen by XYZ” and then you could go and argue with this Zoi to get it back. I started to not use tablets for the most time because they are always stolen by the babysitter if you have babies or toddlers in your household.

Oh dear, that’s awful. But to then be able to confront them would be cool. And for the realism, one excuse could be “I have a GPS in my tablet and it points to you”. Then the confrontation can unfold xD

It would be really useful, particularly for those who play with different families, like me, or have large houses.

Oh yes. Especially when you switch back to a previous family and then you try finding your Zoi’s laptop and be like: "I know I left it on the desk last time… who is the villain that took it??"
