Bring Back Persistent Vehicle States

This has been mentioned before in various forums including Discord, and I am aware of course that there are more pressing things for the devs to do, but I wanted to get some feedback opinions on car and vehicle functionality.

Some have proposed there be more interactions implemented for vehicles, but currently there are effectively none save for driving them, as they no longer have a persistent world state, and act more like a mount in an MMO than a useable object in a life-sim.

I understand that the devs have stated that this is due to the change which linked vehicles with a single zoi, and it makes sense that there might be issues surrounding this, not least if households could have more than one car (though I don’t believe they can?) However, I hope that cars will be parked outside houses as they were initially, or even inside garages/on driveways, which would ensure that any house could have a parking spot so long as we place one.

This would bring back the possibility of interacting with cars/bikes etc. as well as seeing them in the world, which IMO is important in a life simulation.

Zero replies about the cars, but barely anyone responded anyway, just background noise really. Like 7 upvotes or something, and one mention… I felt like some kind of reckless warrior :upside_down_face: So yeah… try once more)

Ahh.. until October, 3, well

One thing I’ve noticed is that one of the preferences in the likes/dislikes section is for ā€˜washing cars’. But as it stands, I don’t think there’s a way to actually do that at present?

That said, it is definitely possible for households to have more than one car, and I can see how things would get complicated with 6-8 different vehicles to simulate. Personally I’m fairly indifferent as I don’t care that much about mounts, but the ā€˜washing cars’ thing should be fixed. Also it should be possible to give vehicles a greater range of colours - why not just let players pick from a colour wheel like with everything else? Is it because the lack of persistent states means they can’t keep track of colours?

Yeah, the old action menu does show up after spawn and before mounting / getting in – but nothing’s clickable. Honestly, I don’t really get what Kjun meant, why do vehicles need complex logic? Is it that owning multiple mounts across multiple Zois in multiple families makes it hard to keep them in the world long-term, and that’s why they can’t persist anywhere?

By the way, if I leave a boat in the world and switch to another family, can I still pick it up from the same spot? And if I rent a new one, will the old boat from the previous family stay there?

Here’s the post on Discord — any kind of support (upvote, reply, duplicate, and so on): Discord

Kjun:

:blush:October 3 – Comment Response
I’ve gathered the most common and repeatedly mentioned requests and summarized them here. Some already have clear solutions, while others will take more time as we continue to explore different approaches.
While reading through your feedback — much of which went beyond the scope of the original video — I once again realized how much inZOI still has room to grow, and how important open communication with all of you is. Please understand that this response covers a wide range of topics. I’ve read through everything twice, but since there’s a lot of feedback, please feel free to repeat or remind me if I miss anything. :slightly_smiling_face:

I guess the biggest issue would be where to put multiple vehicles - if you have 8 roommates with their own cars and no garage, where would all the cars go? On the street outside? The obvious way to solve it would be to force players to place down a ā€˜parking space’ on the lot for each vehicle, which I believe is how The Sims did it (though I haven’t played that game in a LONG time).

Alright, players are perfectly capable of planning space for a car, plus the devs could’ve removed some parked decorative vehicle assets around lots and points of interest. Sure, they’re nicely modeled, but so what? I won’t be upset if the taxi or SUV finally stops endlessly sitting under the windows. So they could create memory cells dedicated solely to vehicles along the perimeter. Yes, in-game cars are handled as separate Data Assets (not quite standard objects like in Sims 3.) But they can still occupy the lot when Zoi’s in. A Zoi gets out… and what, they can’t do more? That’s just super weird.

I remember a funny video where a player built a garage and kept trying to get Zoi’s car to stay inside. One Zoi was placed near the gate to trigger it so the car could drive in, and the second Zoi was the driver – created specifically to sit in the car permanently so it wouldn’t despawn. So the car ā€œparksā€ in the garage, and the first Zoi moves away from the gate so it can close)))

Max 3 boats in the world, family doesn’t matter.

These are screenshots from end of April and beginning of June 2025.
In the following pic, there is a white deco car

And when my Zoi was trying to park where the orange ā€˜no parking’ things are, the deco car vanished and he was able to park at its place.

So It was possible to easily park, even with the deco cars ƶ.ƶ
(I don’t know if this is still possible after the updates)

Wow! And now you can block the Mount action via WASD controls and choose any of the previous options, plus, as long as you stay in that family, the vehicles remain in the world.

…and buggy actions too, sure

Please don’t forget – we can take all this info/screenshots and post them in the Discord thread. Kjun asked us to remind, so let’s do that. Mb two times.

Wow, thanks for that. And to LennyOgg for the info about parking, too. Since the update I have only one zoi with a vehicle, and that is just a scooter so I have not tried anything like that. But I will be now

Yes, I assume the change was as a result of being able to own multiple cars per household now (which I wasn’t sure about till now). If so why not only ā€œparkā€ cars if there is space available, and if not, they can spawn in/out as they do now? Perhaps that is what will happen in future, my concern is just that the devs are used to MMO mechanics and might be tempted to just leave it as is…

Maybe they think the game would grind to a halt if we gave a car to every playable zoi, and they all tried to render in the world at once??

Not sure about this either, my guess is they just didn’t make vehicles colourable in this way yet. Considering they used to stay in the world, I wouldn’t think that would be the reason. Hopefully cars at this moment are still a WIP and will be colourable in future. I just wish they had included a red colour, how did they miss that out??

Yeah, or you can cancel the Mount interaction with the ā€œXā€ after the car appears in the world.

i miss this too and would like to see both spaces for cars on the street to be parked, like it was, but also the ability to place a parking spot(s) on your lot like a garage. ideally the game could auto-use any slot when parking, or you could assign say the garage spot to a specific zoi’s vehicle. i would like it to be part of a larger system though where non-played zois use their own vehicles so they could also take up a spot outside your house if they were visiting a lot nearby or something. if all slots are taken by your family or other zois, the car goes into their inventory

Given that garage doors and car ports are already in the game, I can’t believe that something like this isn’t already planned! It seems a sensible way to go about it, so that at least some cars can have a persistent presence on lots.

Other vehicles could, as you say, simply be kept as they currently are, virtually stored and spawned as required. Or possibly parked in parking bays outside lots, both residential and community…? That way played zoi cars could be visible even when visiting other lots, including possibly work venues - if parking spaces were present. We shall see…
