Use WASD to control camera instead of Zoi

The game is a simulation game, and it’s very cool to be able to control the Zoi with WASD!

However, I preffer playing the game as other simulations games, where I control the camera instead of the Zoi.

This should be just a new camera mode, or a new option, not removing the existing ones.

Maybe this forum is the wrong place since most players are already used to how the game currently is, but I can’t be the single one wanting this…

Rest assured, I will never get used to how the camera actually works and I totally agree to your suggestion :psycat_paw:

Honestly, I’m the complete opposite. I got so used to the inZOI controls, I’m physically unable to control any Sims now xD

Yeah that was exactly why I said that maybe here is the wrong place to suggest that, I imagined most of the long time players are used to and probably stop complaining about this… but I was glad to see I’m not the only one @LennyOgg

I totally get why you’ve added this to the wishlist here @ZonaryQuasar. It’d make the controls more intuitive and beginner-friendly for people coming from other life-sim games. I’d have loved your option to be included in inZOI from the start.

The camera in inZOI is an absolute nightmare for story tellers and builders imo.

It even got worse since the beginning.
It was possible to take pics of the houses, for example.
Now - when I put all the stories up, it looks like in the first pic, and when I move the camera just the tiniest bit, the camera jumps and the roof and the second floor vanish -.-
I complained about that already in November and this issue never got acknowledged.

Also the stupid jumping of the camera in build mode. When I want to change one little thing, I have to adjust the camera multiple times to get back to where I started.

And I’ve never been able to tilt the camera below that:
(It’s only possible in build mode, why not in live mode?)
It’s impossible to take a pic of my Zois standing in front of a house with all walls and roof up.
Why - when it worked before?

Camera lower than that isn’t even in possible in camera mode.
Vertical movement downwards is a lie :psycat_upset: We couldn’t even take proper pics of the fireworks on New Year even though we’ve been on top of the highest building in Bliss Bay.

And sometimes, when I move the camera towards the Zoi, it jumps up for no reason at all.
There is no day when I haven’t cursed multiple times because of that camera -.-

And since the quality in camera mode is so bad, I rather take the screenshots for the story in live mode with screen capture, but that also is do wonky.
When I click on my zoi to move the camera to him, it looks like in the first pic, at least the angle is ok. But when I want to adjust the camera, it jumps again and I can’t get it back down. Such a hassle! :sob:
It’s already so hard to take proper pics in this game, for sitting Zois it’s even harder.

I find it very difficult to take photos of babies and toddlers in photo mode.

Think they simply need to define 3 types of camera modes.

Default:

Camera should be controlled as an overview of the gameplay setting and world. WASD giving the camera control as an observant role, similar to Sims camera control.

Tab Mode:

Camera locks in on active Inzoi, making them the main character as some would say. WASD controls them, tying the camera control through their gameplay movements. But the camera view would still be free enough as an observant perspective.

Tab Mode into Third Person/Over shoulder:

Zooming in enough creates the Over the Shoulder Camera mode. Gives you a more personal type of gameplay. WASD controls them and adds more gameplay controls which is currently in-game at the moment. A few MMOs had this type of transitional camera flow.

Yes, this is exactly what I think the game needs! And I’m glad to know it’s not only me, but a lot of people wish this too!
Please Inzoi development team, we need this!

Taking photos of babies and toddlers is so terribly exhausting. Since we can’t go below a certain angle, it’s nearly impossible to capture toddlers sitting on the floor and playing with some toys for example. This should definitely change in the near future.

I like to be able to control my zoi with WASD. I have no issues with the camera.

But I’ did not suggest removing the ability to control the ZOI with WASD.

I just suggested having the ability to also control the camera with WASD, just as other simulation type games.

The current camera controls are pretty much how MMOs work, you control the character with WASD and the camera angle with the mouse.

The way the sims does it always felt kind of weird to me because I’m a long time MMO player and they work just like InZoi so it felt natural to me.

However, InZoi is not an MMO so having the option to freely move the camera (maybe with a modifier like alt?) would come handy. Free camera is good but can’t control the Zois while using it so I guess it’s just intended for pictures and stuff.

The thing is, you don’t really need to control your character. When you click on things and assign them something to do, they will walk to it automatically. What really feels weird to me is having to use WASD and also having to click on things when I’m in front of them., which is double the work.

Try playing on a controller first, then you’ll see. Direct control was the best control setup back in the early Sims series on PS2. You run up to an object, press the action button, and pick from the list. Considering how many people are waiting for the console release (judging by the comments on X, it’s way more than the current Steam online) integrating this mode was absolutely necessary. The controls are the same whether you’re on keyboard or controller, the only difference is the mapping, just like in most games over the last 15–20 years. All the more since on Unreal Engine devs always work on exactly the same game for all platforms at once, and the game builds have basically become almost unified across all platforms.

Looks like you can already switch WASD to control the camera. So Kjun did a good job.

UPD: Posted the control settings window separately, it’s just frustrating that the devs have already done this, but they still get blamed.

Thank you, I really didn’t know about this option! And I guess nobody did either, since nobody else said this here and even on Discord!

I tested and sadly doesn’t work with elevators. When I assign my zoi to use the elevator, the action disappears from the queue action list. I had to switch back to “wasd controls the zoi” to trigger the enter in elevator animation lol

Well, that means there’s still work to be done. I see you posted the bug in the section – you could highlight in the thread title “via WASD Camera Control (Movement / Panning)” so more people will notice it. Devs often quietly hide controversial or noisy topics at the bottom of logs or without any indication at all, so it’s better to share such findings ourselves.
