[03.27.26] Suggestion: Height Slider + Automatic Animation Adaptation using IK and Control Rig

Haai

One feature that I (and many others) have been hoping for is a Height Slider (or at least height presets) in the Character Customization (CAZ). Currently all adult Zois of the same gender have fixed height, which limits variety and realism in relationships and daily interactions.

The main issue right now is that large height differences cause noticeable clipping and awkward positioning during interactions such as hugs, kisses, dancing, etc.

My proposal:

Add a Height Slider in the body customization section.
Alternatively, as a more realistic first step, implement several distinct height presets:

  • For adults: 4 presets with height differences of approximately 10 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm, and 40 cm.

  • For teenagers: 3 presets with height differences of 10 cm, 20 cm, and 30 cm.

To make this work smoothly, I suggest using automatic animation adaptation with Full-Body IK, Control Rig, and procedural animation tools. After the switch to Unreal Engine 5.6 in April, these systems should make it significantly easier to dynamically adjust animations for different heights.

This improvement could also positively affect:

  • Interactions with objects and furniture (reaching shelves, sitting at tables, using kitchen counters)

  • Eating animations and interactions with food

  • General daily activities where height difference currently looks unnatural

Why this would be great:

  • Much greater variety in character creation (tall/short couples, family members of different heights, etc.)

  • Significantly improved immersion in romantic, social and everyday interactions

  • Better long-term foundation for future features (children growth, age transitions, etc.)

I understand that implementing a full free height slider with motion-captured animations is technically challenging. That’s why I believe starting with distinct height presets would be a much more manageable and realistic approach, especially after the UE 5.6 update.

What do you think? Would the team consider adding this to the Fundamentals First phase or future CAZ improvements? :love_letter:
