Issue Date: June 19, 2026, after updating to v0.9.0.

Issue Summary:
After updating to v0.9.0 / build 20260618.13287.W, the red/auburn hair color on my Zoi Elara became extremely bright in both CAZ and in-game. This has happened after previous updates as well, but after this update the color shift is much worse and is very difficult to correct.

Before the update, her hair appeared as a deeper, more natural auburn/copper tone. After the update, the same custom hair color setup appears much brighter, more saturated, and more orange/copper than before. The brightness is especially noticeable around the front hairline, highlights, and overall hair mass.

I tried adjusting the base color, sub color, and highlight colors, but it is difficult to restore the previous look. The issue appears to affect how saved/custom red and auburn hair colors render after updates, rather than being an intentional edit.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open Character Studio / CAZ after updating to v0.9.0.

  2. Load or view a Zoi with custom red/auburn hair colors.

  3. Compare the hair color to screenshots from before the update.

  4. The same Zoi’s hair appears significantly brighter and more saturated after the update.

  5. Enter gameplay or view the Zoi in-game.

  6. The hair color remains extremely bright in-game as well.

  7. Attempt to adjust base color, sub color, and highlights.

  8. The previous natural auburn/copper look is difficult to recreate.

Expected Result:
Custom red/auburn hair colors should remain visually consistent after updates, both in CAZ and in-game, or at least remain close enough that saved Zois do not require major recoloring.

Actual Result:
The red/auburn hair color becomes noticeably brighter, more saturated, and overly orange/copper after the update. The saved/custom hair color no longer matches the pre-update appearance and is difficult to correct manually.

Troubleshooting Already Tried:

  • Confirmed the Zoi was created/edited without mods.

  • Checked the hair color settings in CAZ.

  • Tried adjusting base color, sub color, and highlight colors.

  • Compared screenshots taken before and after the update.

  • Checked the appearance in-game, where the hair also appears extremely bright.

Screenshots from after the v0.9.0 update showing the brighter hair color, screenshots from before the update showing the previous darker/natural auburn appearance, and the Canvas link for comparison and to download zoi preset file if needed.

AFTER THE v 0.9.0 update

BEFORE THE v 0.9.0 update :

Hello there!

Before this did you have mods in the game? It might be that you were suffering from the infamous gray hair bug and didn’t know. If that is not a possibility I apologize, just trying to help.

If not, I believe this might be an interaction with the new rendering pipeline and OLED/HDR displays rather than a bug itself, but hopefully the team will get to this soon :custom_heart:

My gingers appeared really bright after the last update, and a bit glisten-y - had no idea about an infamous hair bug so I will investigate now! :psycat_paw:

Nope no mods. This zoi was created without mods and I have no mods in game. I have mods disabled.

Personally i was begging for this to happen. I found the redhead zois looked kinda grey in the game. I have dyed dark blood red burgundy hair IRL and in CAZ it looked cool but looked just kinda auburn brown in live mode.

I must say I agree so much with you, I just dindn’t want to seem dismissive. I like this coloring better, is more full and less dull tbh

I see, then this might be a change in rendering!

The infamous “gray-hair” bug messes up so many things in game it’s truly terrifying  The modkit wizard is the one to blame

After the update, I also started having a problem with hair, or rather with its color. In CAS it looks pretty decent, at least more or less what I wanted, but as soon as I want to play and go into live mode, the hair becomes very dark(

I agree. It used to be really difficult to achieve a true red hair color.
