Please create new food animation for restaurants

Greetings, esteemed developers!

I recently watched video reviews from beta testers who have already received the update that will be released on September 3rd. The process of visiting restaurants looks absolutely wonderful, but something really caught my eye.

When Sims eat at home or on the street — I don’t pay much attention to the fact that they use only a fork for eating main courses. But in a restaurant, it looks absolutely inappropriate. The thing is, I’m so used to using not only a fork but also a knife for main courses that need to be eaten in pieces, even at home, that I simply cannot imagine eating with just a fork in a place that claims to be a “restaurant.”

Please, I urge you, pay attention to this! It would be really great if Sims held the fork in their left hand, the knife in their right, and ate by cutting off pieces with it. Their elbows should be lowered along their body, and the process of cutting a piece should happen mainly through hand and wrist movements. Then they would truly look cultured. Right now, with just a fork in their right hand, they look like teenagers who poked their heads into a cheap eatery to quickly grab some udon or something like that

Please make the animation look more befitting a visit to a fine dining establishment, not just a fork and those elbows sticking out to the sides. The screenshot is taken from a YouTube video, and it demonstrates quite well the “un-restaurant-like” behavior.

Thank you very much! :folded_hands:

Oooh that is an interesting thing to see to say the least xD. I didn’t check the animations online yet myself.

I was just wondering, since the inZOI team still works on trait improvement, how nice would it be if those eating habits/animations would be influenced by that? The “default” could be how you describe it. Fitting cutlery with animations and more “proper” sitting. But if that would be a childish or lazy Zoi, I would find this type of animation quite fitting. Not paying attention to the surroundings, poking in the food, as you so fittingly described it, or maybe even spill the food a little, leaving a messy table. Same of course for more tidy Zois, just the opposite. They could sit super prim and proper, no elbows on the table and generally have good manners. And traits that are “neutral”, let’s say something like “workaholic” they could have normal eating behavior.

That might take quite some time to implement, so in general, I agree that this would definitely need fine polish, so the eating behaviour looks less improper and more like someone, who would actually eat at a restaurant xD.

Good catch:four_leaf_clover:

Yes, I would also love to see full development of various animation styles for zoés with different personalities and moods.

For example, a sad zoé could sit and reluctantly poke at their food with a fork. An anxious one could eat greedily, trying to “suppress stress”. An already full zoé, eating again, could reluctantly and lazily eat small pieces, constantly getting distracted from food to look around, check their phone, etc., while still continuing to eat since we ordered them to. An angry zoé could angrily wave their hands while eating…

But that’s really a very large amount of work. So for now I would be satisfied with even just one additional eating style — the one I described.

Just when two people sit at a table in a fancy restaurant across from each other eating dishes that cost 500 meow for two servings, but their animation looks like a child eating soup while holding the spoon clenched in their fist — that seemed maximally inappropriate to me

At home — whatever, but here my soul couldn’t take it, and I rushed here to write about it

It’s much better this way, isn’t it?

I absolutely agree on that. Some decency should be a given by default, especially if it’s a more decadent place and not a burger joint or something xD.

One day, we can maybe get those more “special” animations and I love your ideas too, but yes, a proper dining-out-animation is the minimum we should get. As it is right now, it looks more like a placeholder animation xD
