What do you think about the CanvasTown reveal today?

As the title says, I am curious about what people think after the Brainstorm reveal today. Here is the link to the brainstorm:

I gathered that people have a lot of opinions on what was shown today, so I think it might help to collect opinions and open a poll to “statistically” show what we players want/expected. The poll is anonymous, so vote away:four_leaf_clover:

How do you feel about the Canvastown Showcase so far?
  • I am very hyped now!:tada:
  • I don’t really care:person_shrugging:t2:
  • I don’t like what was shown…

dont know what canvas town is going to add but i would rather they focus on finishing the base game before adding multiplayer or any other mode/feature

In the previous roadmap presentation, Canvastown was supposed to be 2 small town maps similar to European countryside (and it seemed players could fully customize them). But now Canvastown has become an entrance to multiplayer mode, which was unexpected for me… (Of course, I’m not opposed to the current Canvastown)

If kjun first created a European countryside map with terrain editing tools and city decorations, allowing players to fully customize the map, and then implemented multiplayer gameplay similar to what’s currently in Roblox, the reviews might be significantly better than they are now

As I said in the post, I find it exciting. Especially because they’re alternative projects and don’t negatively influence each other, so we have to look at them as distinct objects. I think that on a technical level, AI training is going to speed up a lot of work in Inzoi base and that we have many doors open in the future for both projects to improve and support each other. I also like the idea of being able to create your own city and move your families there, and the same way I like the idea of being able to do it cooperatively or as an MMO.

Right now it’s all very limited, but I think if you look at it from a broad perspective, this alternative project can give much more and doesn’t take away development time. It’s not the same thing to see a grain of sand as it is to see a future beach.

I’m excited because I think it can bring many improvements and many good intentions for many player profiles, even though everything is still very recent

I was really delighted by these phrases:

This means that creating your own towns is NOT YET available. And since it’s only “not yet” — that means it’s still in the plans! :star_struck: :star_struck: :star_struck:

Even though it’s in such an indirect way, I’m glad to have received this information. Because until now there have been many suggestions and requests, but not a word from the developers about whether they’ve actually heard them. Judging by how these words are phrased, we’ll have to wait a long time, but it’s better this way than not knowing at all whether they have any plans to work on it eventually.

As for online play — I’m sure some players will like it. Especially since we’ve been shown a completely “raw” version. Personally, online doesn’t interest me, but if it really won’t take resources away from the main team — then why not?

Although, it seems to me, this should also transform into something bigger before release. Separate houses won’t become a center of attraction. They’ll have to implement a unified world for all these hypothetical “50 people”, where each player can get their own plot to build on. And that’s where it would make sense to visit neighbors or explore other players’ city-worlds. This might remind you of the Active Worlds mechanism, just on a new level.

But, I repeat, for me this kind of genre is about single-player gameplay. So I’m looking at this branch very calmly.

I know a lot of people were really looking forward to multiplayer. But every time kjun has mentioned the plan for a “fully customisable town” in the past he called it “canvastown” - which is now the name of the “completely separate”, multiplayer (optional), role-playing experience. So… will the fully customisable town only be available in this separate game? Kjun said “features like building an entire city from scratch or laying down roads—as rumored online—are not available yet” but didn’t mention whether they would be available in the “main game” or not (when they are developed).

We were also told that multiplayer and canvastown each had a separate team working on them. Now we’re told that “canvastown” has a separate team working on the project but “developing features to help decorate your city and edit terrain … is just a side project, and we are very much focused on our core goals.” So right now it seems a little like the customisable town feature has become a part of the multiplayer experience, which receives ongoing development (unlike the original “customisable town” many of us wanted). As much as they like to say “it’s a separate team” it feels like resources (and maybe even ideas) were taken away from the single player experience and given to the multiplayer.
