Details (Providing reproduction steps helps us): I just bought inzoi at the App Store. When starting, everything appears in Korean, but with a translator I managed to understand. However, when I arrive to the main screen, a window appears telling me to “Sign in with Apple”. Unfortunately, that requires to enable two-factor authentication, and I don’t want to enable that feature in my Apple account. Isn’t there another way of starting the game without signing in with Apple? If not, I’ll request a refund, because I don’t want to enable two-factor authentication.
I bought it on the App Store for not having to depend on the Steam client, which I hate. I don’t understand why they require to sign with Apple. Why not with a Krafton Id?
Unfortunately I thin It’s not Krafton’s fault. Just like Google, Apple is now trying to ask users to link an Apple account to its websites and related services in order to connect directly to our data. Unfortunately, this is a widespread and global phenomenon.
No. I’m a veteran Mac user, I use Mac apps and games everyday and none of them request that you sign in with Apple for running the app. This is something deliberately chosen by Krafton. Note that it’s not about buying the game: I bought it with no problem, and yes, I typed my Apple account password for buying it, as always. The problem is that once you buy it, when you run it, you see the intro video, the Cahaya news, and then it suddenly asks you to “sign in with your Apple account”. That feature requires that your Apple account has two-factor authentication. Mine doesn’t, for good reasons, and I’m not going to enable the two-factor just for playing inzoi. Asking you to “sign in with Apple” is a choice by Krafton, not Apple. No other app/game that I know requires that. If they require an account, signing with Apple is always an option, not an obligation: other apps that require an account let you sign with Google or another account if you prefer.
I’m coming to inzoi because I’m tired of how EA trashed the Sims (I bought TS2 and TS3, but never got TS4 because I won’t spend a cent on an inferior version that was created just for cash).
EA does many things that I hate, and I won’t buy any other game from them.
But it now seems that Krafton doesn’t let you play offline, because you are required to sign in for playing the game. If that’s true, I’ll request a refund because I bought it precisely for running away from EA’s locking practices. When I pay for a game, I want the rights that you can expect: it’s not a rental, nor a subscription, but a permanent license, and it shouldn’t ask you for an account.
I’m not surprised that this type of connection method is also being introduced by Apple.
Others, such as the mandatory Microsoft Authenticator for other tools, are also becoming increasingly common.
I understand that you don’t want two-factor authentication, but I’m afraid that’s not going to change. We’ll see!
It’s not Apple who requires it for inzoi to run. It’s inzoi. As I said, no other of the hundreds of apps and games I use require that. It’s something required by Krafton.
Hello. I don’t work for Krafton, but I wanted to offer an opinion here. Everyone that plays inZOI is encouraged to login whether it’s login with Apple or with Steam, and the game yes indeed is online for some small key reasons. I believe it’s because 1) you have your payment information as well as payment history tied in as well. 2) Other reasons that inZOI is an online game is because it receives frequent updates to keep the game running smooth as well as to keep people from pirating the game. I am not trying to change your mind, or say that you don’t have valid concerns, as I too have left Sims because of their practices. In fact, I usually play games on my PS5 or my Xbox Series anyway, so this is a big adjustment for me, and I am willing to give inZOI a try because I understand that this is a passion project for Kjun and I’m happy to support something different than the competition like you are. My taste in games have slowly started to change, and that means I’m particularly picky about what games I buy, but I appreciate having a sign-on to protect me. I’m also a single player normally so I prefer offline games, but I realize that this is a different kind of game where we design characters, their homes, their relationships, and their lives so the game will have to be online so that it can continue to improve and improve. I truly understand if you leave though.
Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it. Yes, I’m going to leave. I can play Sims 3 offline (it shows a window recommending you to go online, but you can continue offline). As I said, I’m not going to buy any new EA game, but I see Krafton is not different. I support companies that don’t make you pay for the consequences of piracy (you bought the game, you legally paid for it, so you shouldn’t be given less rights because of piracy done by others).
Besides, there are less intrusive ways of fighting against piracy. Most games in the App Store don’t make the innocent user pay for piracy.
I had high hopes in inzoi, and I was really excited to see that I could run away from EA. But that time didn’t come yet. I’ll wait for new simulators. In the meantime, Sims 3.
FWIW: The complete Sims 2 collection in the App Store is a great example: No steam client, no online account required, no intrusive DRM. You pay for the game, you get full rights. As it should be.
Okay I understand. It was nice chatting with you. Ciao.
