I understand gems being rare, and the need for progression to unlock the ability to craft them, but my Zoi was max gathering level and on her 2nd gold pickaxe by the time she found her 1st gem. This seems a little unbalanced. Since, she barely mines enough gold to keep herself in pickaxes, which cost £300 each time (in spite of providing all materials, what??) and she has found <6 gemstones. And once crafted, all of them were poor quality at level 5 handiness, couldn’t even sell most on Pocket Market. Seems gem crafting is not currently a viable play option - no chance of a diamond pickaxe to improve drop rate, all I have found is Peridot and one Aquamarine!
My zoi found most of her gems using the diamond pickaxe but it does take a long time to find them. I had to travel to Dowon park to find most of them because i didn’t have much luck in Cahaya. I found pearl in Cahaya beach
Unable to find gems even with a level 10 pickaxe and a gold pickaxe… I’ve mined hundreds of times in different places in Cahaya. It’s demotivating and not at all profitable for my zoi. The collection should really be less time-consuming and gems should be easier to find.
I ended up cheating in one piece of every gem into my bag in order to see how to find them in the Collection Log and a lot of them can’t be found in Cahaya at all. I’m glad I did that because I’d be trying until the end of my days. I feel like there should be an option to buy the gem guide because otherwise how are you supposed to learn? It’s a vicious circle. I was fairly lucky finding gold, silver and diamonds so I create tools out of them and sell them on the market and it can be very lucrative if you’re patient and wait for a rich tourist who’ll buy them I also cheat when a tool gets broken hahaha, I feel like just because my pickaxe broke doesn’t mean I lost the ore too. And they break a lot for quality items tbh.
I finally have a diamond pickaxe, and the gem drop is still pretty low. I am still mostly mining metals and minerals with it, unless I only target gold mining spots.
I agree that we are largely in the dark as to collecting gems. It is impossible to know which gems can be mined where without actually moving cities and mining them up there, if you even have the RNG to find them. Also to know which mining spots to target for which gems.
I mainly dig up gold mining nodes as they are the only ones I have ever found gems in so far. Mixed nodes seem pretty rare so not sure about those.
I agree it is really hard to find gems. The drop rate is really low. I had most luck with finding pearls at the beach as it seems for this you do not need to have a certain level or a certain pickaxe etc.
Side topic: are you even able to still sell the stuff you make on the sales tables in town or home lot? For me after the Halloween update it has become nearly impossible to even sell a single item during the 4 hours of the selling event. It worked fine before the upate. Now even with lower prices nobody seems to be willing to buy. So I gave up all the crafting for the moment as it is impossible to make money with it. Would like to know if you have such issues as well after the update?
I’m not sure this is a ‘bug’ as such but I do agree it’s a major game balance issue. I want to have some of my Zois make a living as gem-crafters, but unless you’re also prepared to spend huge amounts of time mining (and craft jewelled pickaxes as well), it’s all but impossible unless you cheat the raw gems into your inventory. The other day I had a Zoi mining with a high skill, a full Concentration guage and a jewelled pickaxe, and still got nothing from the first 4 tries. We really need a way to buy raw gemstones from one of the stores, even if the price is high.
Also, given how hard it is to find gems, the rate at which gem tools break is way too high and wildly frustrating. At least let us fix them at the crafting table rather than just having them randomly disappear!
I’ve had the same thing happen to me. I made a living selling at the tables, and since the Halloween update, practically nobody buys anything ever. It’s a shame because it was fun searching for materials and crafting, but if nobody’s buying it anymore, there’s no point. Plus, they appear 1 hour after the event starts and keep coming 1 hour after it ends. Since it’s shorter now, there are even fewer chances for people to buy.
