Freezing with Pink Overlay when Reentering Live Mode

  • Game Version: 20250910.7320.W

  • Platform: Steam windows

  • Mods: Removed

  • Hardware Specifications & Operating System (OS version, CPU, GPU, RAM, storage…):

    • Windows 11 Home 24H2, Intel Core i7-12650H 2.70 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, 8 GB VRAM, 32 GB RAM 4800 MT/s, 1 TB Storage
  • Steps to Reproduce (general case):

  1. In Live Mode, enter residential Build Mode or Edit Public Property Build Mode
  2. Return to Live Mode. The screen may flash or temporarily freeze with a pink overlay. The bigger the lot and/or the more congested the area, the longer the frozen state persists.
  3. If the flash or freeze doesn’t occur, put more items in the room, or move the camera to a different room that has more items, and see if it occurs then.
  • For a Clear and More Servere Case:
  1. Go to Cahaya’s Resort Facilities and enable the “EditAllSite True” cheat
  2. Open the “Edit Public Property” Build Mode on the lot
  3. Return to Live Mode. In my tests, it took about 15-20 seconds for the game to unfreeze on this lot.

  • Details:

    • Game freezes or flahes with a pink-overlay screen when exiting Build Mode in certain conditions.
      • The bigger the lot and/or the more congested the area is with items, the longer the game remains frozen.
      • Happens on public and residential lots, regardless of the world.
      • On a single lot, the behavior may change per room, based on how many items are in that room or how large it is. In one room, the freeze may last only 1 second, while in another, it may last 5 seconds.
      • Might also be connected to the number of Zoi on the lot or the surrounding area, but I haven’t tested that. The issue still occurs when no Zoi are in the room though, if there are many items.
    • Date of Issue: Didn’t occur until after the August 2025 update

I’m sure this behavior is expected from a lot of items being on properties and the game having to process them all when reentering the simulation. Still, in the chance that this can be improved and optimized at all, I’m reporting it anyway.

Hi @LazyTaco,
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for reporting the issue.
To investigate further, could you please share the save files from when the issue occurred?

I’ve sent my save files to the automated email. Thank you.

I’m quite sure this has to do with the graphic settings. It started happening in my game after I changed them (if you remember this post @LazyTaco )

Hi there! I have been searching around the internet for similar problems to yours. This is what I found in case it might be of help:

  • Check your drivers, some user say that updating drivers helped them.
  • Try if the issue happens with a new save. Some users have reported the issue goes away after starting a new save.
  • Verify files on steam.
  • Turn off Ray Tracing.

These seem to have helped other players, maybe they can help you too.

Well, yes, I would assume that increasing the graphics quality would make this issue worse and/or cause it to start because the game has to process things at a higher degree, of course. However, I am reporting it because it should be optimized so it doesn’t happen for higher graphics/those settings, regardless.

Lowering my graphics to stop the issue when my game runs fine otherwise might work, but it’s not ideal, and it didn’t start happening until after the August update. I used the same graphics then as I do now, aside from the frame generation, and changing that setting back to how I had it before doesn’t fix the issue.

Edit: That being said, I do wonder which settings is causing it to do this. Because if it’s a specific setting and not just increasing the graphics quality, that would be helpful so they know what needs optimization. Ray Tracing setting didn’t make a difference, so it’s not that.

  1. My graphics drivers are updated
  2. I already tested on new saves and it makes no difference. All my saves do the same.
  3. My files are verified (I do that often)
  4. Ray Tracing makes no difference

But thanks for trying to help. Also, as I pointed out to Lenny, even if graphics settings are the cause, I’m more reporting this for optimization purposes, not necessarily to find a solution that requires changing graphics settings, since my game runs fine otherwise (though I appreciate the suggestions to help).

Hopefully, the devs can remedy it. It’s worth pointing out that this is the same pink screen and freezing that happened for me on the Main Menu when exiting the in-game Mods Launcher. That was/is a bug.

It also happens when I go from photo mode to live mode

Oh wow, I was just about to mention that too lol Thank you. It seems the issue occurs when going from any other mode back to Live Mode.

Edit: Any other mode that keeps you in the main game, so not including CAZ.

It doesn’t occur in my game when I go from CAZ to live mode, in yours?

Oh, I meant any game mode that keeps you in the main game. It doesn’t happen with CAZ > Live Mode. Bad wording, sorry lol

Build mode frequently freezes/crashes, with no additional MODs installed.

Repeated testing has confirmed that color and material can be changed when initially creating an object,

but cannot be modified after construction is complete.

Any attempt to modify will inevitably cause the game to crash.

This bug has persisted for a long time and needs to be resolved as soon as possible.

For example: if I want to change the wallpaper on a wall during construction, my only option is to demolish it and build a new wall—the color/material editing works fine at that point.

However, this works only once; the next time I click the edit button, the game will definitely crash.
