[11.07.25] December Development Plans

Hello everyone,
Autumn has arrived here in Korea. :fallen_leaf:

On my way to work — I usually walk about an hour each morning — I came across a heart made of fallen leaves. I wanted to share that little moment with you.
Starting with this update, we’ll begin sharing our development plans with you before release.
Please note that everything listed here is still in progress and subject to change.

:office_building: Business – From Small Shops to Franchises

At the core of inZOI’s business system lies the idea of “the joy of growing something yourself.”
Players start with a small store, but if they manage it well, they can expand into a franchise — opening new branches, hiring employees, and developing their own brand.
As the business grows, management becomes more complex.
Employee wages, working conditions, and store balance — all depend on the player’s leadership and decisions.
This isn’t just a management simulation; it’s also about experiencing responsible leadership.
Customers constantly observe your management style.
They smile when satisfied, frown when displeased — not just for show, but as part of the customer satisfaction system.
Clean environments, service quality, customer relationships, and brand image all shape your reputation.
Sometimes, difficult customers may appear — but how you handle them can actually build brand trust.
Customer reviews accumulate and increase your business value, bringing more visitors and unlocking franchise expansion rights and special items.
This creates a cycle of Customer Satisfaction → Brand Growth → Profit Expansion.
Manage your business well, and larger crowds will follow, boosting your revenue.
We plan to introduce five new business lot types, including bakeries, cafés, flower shops, and open business lots.

:shortcake: Confectionery & Beverage Making

This update brings a festive winter atmosphere with baking and drink-making features!
Players can bake cakes for parties, make drinks to share happy moments, and even prepare fruit juice for little Zois.
We want to create the cozy fun of running a small shop filled with the scent of cakes and the sweetness of drinks.
But these skills aren’t just for parties — they’re also useful for business management.
You can sell your creations to grow your brand or serve special items to raise customer satisfaction.
In short, your creativity can open up new business opportunities.

:busts_in_silhouette: Group & Cooperative Actions

We’re developing group movement and sequential interactions. When a group is formed — such as family or friends — their type defines what cooperative behaviors they can perform. Through multi-tasking, interactions will transition naturally as group members sit, talk, and move together. We want Zois to act like a true group — walking and interacting in harmony. Solo interactions are also being redesigned into sequential multi-Zoi actions, creating a more social experience. If these interactions ever feel awkward or lacking, we’d love to hear your feedback.

:family: Family Tree

The Family Tree feature will let players explore their family stories more deeply. It’s centered around a chosen Zoi, showing direct descendants and spouses (even multiple spouses, if applicable). Players can choose how to view ancestors — with both parental lines (bilateral) or one-sided views. Our goal is to make each family’s history more immersive and meaningful to discover.

:balance_scale: Court System

We’re working on a court and justice system where players can experience trials involving social issues such as car accidents, insurance claims, fraud, and unpaid bills. If a player commits a crime, they can be arrested, tried, and sentenced. Next year, we plan to add lawyer and prosecutor roles, letting players directly engage in courtroom procedures. Due to technical limitations, trials will initially be handled as “rabbit-hole” events, focusing on text-driven choices and results for immersion. Players will be able to make decisions like posting bail, hiring lawyers, and choosing defense strategies. Depending on verdicts, penalties like fines, house arrest, or adoption bans will apply. Ignoring sentences will trigger police intervention, leading to arrest, imprisonment, and even visitation events. We may not complete all of this in December, but we’ll continue to expand it over time.

but don’t worry, of course the inZOI team hasn’t forgotten about Christmas decorations! :christmas_tree::wink:

:warning: Memory Leak & Crash Issues

We sincerely apologize for the frequent crashes after the recent update.
We understand how frustrating it is when gameplay stability is compromised.
The issue was caused by multiple factors:

  • Insufficient testing with mods
  • Lack of validation for canvas post-loading
  • Missing shader resources and color palette exceptions

We’ll release a hotfix on Tuesday addressing the major crash issues, and we’re currently performing additional testing.
Some shader-related problems may take longer to resolve, and we’ll provide updates once they’re fixed.
Certain GPU-specific bugs require collaboration with external partners, which may take additional time.
Moving forward, we’ll expand test coverage, strengthen graphic resource validation, and enhance communication transparency whenever issues arise.
We deeply regret the inconvenience this has caused.
Your trust and support have helped inZOI grow, and we promise to return that trust with a more stable and enjoyable game.
Thank you,

– K.jun

:psycat_cahaya: This Week’s Update
After sharing our December development plans, we received an incredible number of posts from everyone — thank you so much!
Wow, over 500 posts this week! We’re truly grateful for all the detailed and practical suggestions you’ve provided. Many of you also expressed concern that our December plans might be a bit too ambitious — and honestly, that’s true. There are some tough parts ahead.
However, since we’ll be focusing on refining and finalizing things more conservatively next year, we’re trying to complete all the essential features before the end of 2025.
Once again, I could really feel how much you all expect inZOI to be a meaningful, realistic, and deeply immersive simulation. It reminds me how heavy my responsibility is — but in a good way.

Family & Relationship System

We’re planning to introduce a Family Tree feature, and many of you asked if it will apply to existing save files. Unfortunately, it might be difficult to make it compatible with older data — I’ll know for sure once development begins.
We also received requests for extended family relationships (cousins, half-siblings, adopted family members) and relationship setup options in CAZ (Character Creation).
Some of you suggested twin and triplet births, along with implementing unique psychological bonds between twins — fantastic ideas! I always feel that players come up with better ideas than developers. But maybe if you became developers, you’d find it hard to come up with ideas too — like me! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
There were also ideas about evolving relationships and synergy systems, making friendships, romances, and family ties more than just labels — actually influencing gameplay. I’m not sure if this counts as the right response to that suggestion, but we’re currently developing a system where enemies can show up at your home to yell or break objects. We’ll keep expanding in this direction.

Business & Economy System

There was a lot of excitement about business expansion, franchises, investment, and finance systems, as well as running home-based businesses and owning multiple ventures.
We also received feedback about advertising, customer targeting tags, events, special missions, and economic balance — including improving pricing systems and reinforcing the value of money.
We’re fully aware that a complete economic rebalance is necessary to ensure smooth gameplay, so although it’s been slightly delayed, we’ll definitely move forward with it soon.
Many of you also suggested features like investment systems, franchise expansion, investors and loans, customer targeting through store tags, calendar systems, and shopping mall store ownership. Your passion gives us so much motivation — we’ll keep developing with full focus and energy!
There were also requests to shorten product creation times and make it easier for new players to run a business without hiring staff. Since this update’s development cycle isn’t very long, we expect the business content to be simpler and more straightforward this time.
Some even suggested family conglomerates or dynasty systems — we loved that idea, too!

Legal & Crime System

The Court System will be included in the late December update. Initially, it will be a text-based “rabbit hole” style feature, but we plan to expand it gradually into a more interactive experience — including roles like lawyers, prosecutors, and judges. Since this is the first time our team has developed something like this, it’s difficult to build everything at once. We’re currently planning to include court appearances and a police officer career, and we’re working closely with our designer to achieve great results. We’ve also been revisiting The Sims’ police career for inspiration! There were suggestions to expand crime types (theft, arson, assault, divorce lawsuits), add court-related jobs, and implement trial simulations, media coverage, and social reactions. The idea of media reports especially intrigued me — I imagined city billboards showing live news updates! You also suggested juvenile courts, varied punishments, and prison systems. As we began developing, I realized I lack experience with real trials or legal procedures, so I’ll have to do some studying before implementing this properly.

Building & Customization

We received many requests to improve the building system — including wallpaper duplication, color/pattern copying, drag-painting floors and walls, window and door adjustments, stair editing, curved walls, and terrain tools. We’ve already completed window resizing, and we’re reviewing drag tools, wallpaper duplication, and other editing utilities to include in future updates. Starting early next year, we’ll begin terrain and underground system development, and we’ll share progress updates with you as we go. We also received many requests for Christmas and seasonal decorations, lighting, and outdoor event items. Since it’s December, of course, we’ll be adding Christmas decorations! We might not release many at once, but we’ll continue adding them steadily to make building more enjoyable. Requests for photo mode improvements, UI convenience features, item grouping, and texture management tools were also frequent — and we’re actively reviewing them.

Gameplay & Immersion

There were many detailed requests to enhance immersion — improving existing animations, reflecting skill proficiency, adding continuous interactions, and introducing more realistic daily actions. Because of inZOI’s realistic graphics, we’ve received a lot of feedback about animations, and we’ll keep working on refining them. Players also suggested group activities (playing basketball, campfires, meals, watching TV), diverse social interactions, and a memory system to express relationship depth and evolution. We’ve received so many memory-related requests that we’re actively planning it now — maybe even inspired by The Sims 2! There were also great ideas about seasonal weather effects, realistic snowfall, and environmental reactions (to cold, heat, smells, etc.). Because the number of lots keeps increasing, we’re improving the UI — adding filters and lot names — and plan to release that in December. We also received tons of feedback about education and parenting systems, and adding unique traits for teens and adults. I keep debating whether to include schools before official release… but every time I look at the build, I realize how much there’s still to do. For now, let’s focus on December — next year’s worries can wait for next year!

Other Feedback

We received requests for Turkish language support, Mac mod compatibility, and developer-led update videos (instead of influencer previews) — all great ideas for strengthening community engagement and communication.
Game optimization, support for both high- and low-end PCs, and graphics and animation quality improvements were also highlighted as important issues.
Many of you expressed hopes for multiplayer features, city visits, property rentals, and expanded real estate and banking systems.
We’re currently researching multiplayer, but early tests have revealed unique challenges due to the game’s genre. The test results were quite different from what I expected — so we’re carefully rethinking our approach.

Reading all your feedback about the December update and future development was truly a joy.
Games are called interactive media for a reason — unlike passive forms like movies or music, a game’s story and world evolve through the player’s own actions and choices.
Developing inZOI while constantly discussing and evolving ideas with all of you makes me feel like we’re creating a truly interactive experience — in every sense of the word. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
See you again this Friday with more updates. Thank you always for your passion and support!

Thank you,

-K.jun
