AI traffic suffers from frame skips / jittering

  • Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Watch the traffic or better, go with the flow.
  2. Despite stable FPS, the AI vehicle skips frames and jitters along the route without approximation.

I’ve looked at it in Cahaya and yes, they seem to skip a couple of frames every now and then. Not as many as in your video, but it’s definitely weird. Could be an issue with the width of the vehicle and the pathfinding / staying perfectly in lane.

I think, routing has been slightly simplified, as per-tick (frame) routing per vehicle is a bit excessive, while this async variant with skipped ticks doesn’t look good visually. It might help to delay rendering by a couple of ms after calculating two key path points and approximating the average speed. Anyway, for now, the traffic flow is rather heavy, so it’d be good to use a separate thread, MassEntity, etc., to reduce the main load.

I have noticed this same issue in Dowon, I assume it happens in every city. Never used to be an issue before for me, so it must have something to do with one of the recent updates (main December update I think, traffic was running smoothly before that).
