Overview: One of the biggest challenges I experience in inZOI is forming friendships in an organic way. Social interactions often feel flat or one-dimensional, and it can be difficult to naturally “click” with other Zois. I think this could be greatly improved by adding conversation styles and friendship types that influence how Zois talk, bond, and connect with each other.
Core Idea: Each Zoi would have a friendship style that represents what kind of friend they are, and each Zoi would also have preferred friendship styles based on their personality traits. During conversations, players could choose different conversation styles, and the available dialogue options and outcomes would change depending on compatibility.
Examples of Friendship Types:
-
Loyal friend
-
Generous friend
-
Fun or party friend
-
Loving or nurturing friend
-
Jealous or possessive friend
-
Fake or surface-level friend
-
Chill or low-maintenance friend
-
Ambitious or competitive friend
These types would not be “good” or “bad,” just different social energies.
Conversation Style System: During interactions, instead of only generic social options, players could select a conversation style that reflects how their Zoi relates to others. Depending on the selected style, different dialogue options would appear. For example, a fun friend might get playful or spontaneous dialogue, while a loyal friend might get supportive or protective options.
Personality & Compatibility: Each Zoi would have preferred friendship styles influenced by their personality traits, with one or more styles auto-assigned by default. Players could optionally customize their Zoi’s friendship style. When meeting someone new, compatibility would matter:
-
Some Zois may instantly like you because your friendship style matches what they value
-
Others may dislike or distrust you because your style clashes with their preferences
-
In high-compatibility cases, the friendship meter could increase much faster, creating a feeling of instant connection
-
In low-compatibility cases, friendships may grow slowly or not at all
This would allow situations where two Zois feel like they’ve “known each other forever” after just meeting, while others never quite connect.
Gameplay Impact:
-
Friendships would feel more personal and varied
-
Not every interaction would have the same outcome
-
Players could experiment with different social approaches
-
Making friends would feel less forced and more natural
-
Loneliness would be reduced because connections would form through compatibility, not just repeated clicks
Why This Matters: In real life, not everyone gets along, and not all friendships look the same. Adding friendship types and conversation styles would make social life in inZOI feel more realistic, emotionally engaging, and unpredictable. It would also directly improve the experience of meeting people and forming friendships organically, which is currently one of the hardest parts of the game.
WClosing: This system would add depth to conversations, strengthen personality mechanics, and help friendships feel earned and meaningful. It would be a powerful step toward making inZOI’s social simulation feel truly alive.
