I think I can confirm @Mysterious95’s solution. I have a YA Zoi who’s romantically linked with someone in his late middle-age stage. It took some time, if I remember correctly, but it isn’t technically restricted. Did you check whether their traits / personalities were compatible enough? (I use this table for it: Romantic compatibility (depending on the traits)) - This might help to make it easier / quicker, if you don’t want to graft too hard for a longer period of time.
