Raincoat doesn't prevent diseases

  • Game Version: 20260114.9803.W

Details:
The option to “wear raincoat” should (and was probably meant to) shield the Zoi from getting sick in rather harsh weather conditions, at least for a longer time than running around in heavy rain with your summer clothes.

(As we already know, catching a cold happens way too often after the latest patches, mentioned by @LennyOgg: Catching a cold happens too early and too often)

After checking today, I dug up 5 minerals in light rain, then immediately got the “your zoi caught a cold” emotion / buff. It took approximately 15-20 in-game minutes for this to happen. A raincoat isn’t supposed to work like that IRL which is why I listed this thread in the bug category.

→ Wearing a raincoat should at least keep diseases at bay for 2-3 hours.

Ah. Was it supposed to make a difference? I never knew. That always seemed to be 100% independent from what my zoi were wearing.

I think it was supposed to make a small difference. Right after launch it helped quite a bit, at least that’s how it seemed from my POV. Not anymore though.

As of 0.5.3 Zoi still don’t know what an Umbrella is. Non-playable character do. But our zois do not.
I am surprised the raincoat does not work though (which our zois do not know what that is either).
This should be fixed… It’s been reported since, oh forever.

The funny thing is, at launch and for a while afterwards, they did use umbrellas. I’m not exactly sure when they broke that. But yeah, I concur that it would be nice if they fixed it.

Agree to all of you. Even if the Zoi somehow really leaves the house with an umbrella latest when he does anything else than walking he puts the umbrella away and never puts it out again.

Also I am not sure if I remember correct but was it not stated somewhere in the latest updates that Zois would catch cold if they would stay in rain unprotected for more than one in game hour? If @HeinziDerHeld got the cold right after 15-20 minutes then this would be also a bug in itself.

In reality, you can get sick in 15 minutes! This is a game, so you’ll get sick here too anyway. The main thing is that the game has not only a cloak or umbrella, but also a first aid kit that solves all problems. Use it and that’s it. For the avatar, the main thing is attention. If I go outside with wet hair in the coldest frost, do you think Zoe will catch meningitis and die? No, she’ll just get sick the same way. I don’t think the developer made a big deal out of this. (maybe they will)

@EllaEstella Yes, I remember that patch note too. Zois should be able to stay outside in harsh weather for about an hour before catching a cold. This isn’t the case for any Zoi in my game tbh. I haven’t looked at the in-game time whenever they got sick but it doesn’t take longer than before patch release, certainly not. Approximately 15-40 in-game minutes, I’d guess. I gotta add: Most of the time I’m controlling them myself, so staying outside longer than intended due to autonomy issues isn’t the case here.

@aliko.prixodko yes, I agree. Human beings get sick, so Zois can get sick too. That’s not the reason why I opened this thread though  If a game offers certain mechanics (raincoat, umbrella vs. diseases), then players rightfully expect those features to have meaning instead of simply being cosmetics. Existence of raincoat = can be used to get sick a little less often. IRL a raincoat can be a real lifesaver, for example during festival concerts. People use them to shield themselves from bad weather while moving a lot / need their hands to be free (which rules out umbrella usage). That’s common, realistic and should work for Zois too.

The chance of catching a disease from being outside in rain/snow should be significantly lower, maybe around 20%. In real life you don’t get colds etc. from these things, but from being around other people with the virus - obviously that’s hard to model in-game, but there should at least be a random element.

I didn’t know raincoats or umbrellas were supposed to prevent diseases, though. Is that in the patch notes somewhere?

I don’t think it was mentioned anywhere, but at least they used to be somewhat useful before v0.4.0, as far as I can remember

As a potentially useful workaround for anyone just wanting less diseases, you can just go into Edit City → Manage City and then just drag the Health Level slider all the way to the right. It cuts disease probability down by a lot.

Of course, it doesn’t solve the issue of whether raincoats help or not, which is why I’m calling it a workaround instead of a fix for the current thread.

Oh yes, I keep forgetting about the sliders! Thanks for reminding me! It’s a total drag to have two Zois with the adventurous trait stuck inside the house because of bad weather. I’ll definitely use the sliders the next time I’m in the game. Thank you :folded_hands:

I have these sliders all up and they get sick nonetheless, Saiwa again lately and he didn’t even leave the house -.- And , as mentioned in another post, when they took the bus and have only been in the rain/snow for far less than an hour.

Oh, they still get sick, including out of nowhere. Just less often than with the slider in the middle.

And I’m not sure if it actually helps with the rain, or just with random colds out of nowhere.

Oh, also as a workaround, there is a psycat doughnut that makes you immune for a day. But it’s totally not worth the coins, unless you cheat them or something. I guess you can use it if you absolutely must be out in the rain, like if it’s your wedding day.

Hi everyone (@here) ,

We’ve made adjustments so Zois are less likely to catch a cold overall through the v0.6.0 update.

Please note that raincoats are not currently designed to prevent colds, and this is working as intended. If you would like to see raincoats provide cold protection in the future, we encourage you to make a new thread to the Wishlist category!

Thank you for your feedback. :custom_butterfly:
