[01.30.26] Lighting Management: Gameplay, Auto-Lights, and More

Introduction

Bright lights are something I despise in real life. Worse, Zois sleeping with the lights on, lights staying on in empty rooms, and managing the lights manually are all things that take away from my immersion. I’ve had several ideas for auto-lights dating back to the other simulator, but I have not been able to realize them.

Contents

  1. Auto-Lights
  2. Auto-Curtains
  3. Gameplay Effects
  4. Other Notes

Auto-Lights

The lights must only account for human Zois, not pets. When playing a certain other simulator, the lights would constantly turn on when playing with pets, running up the bills.

Types of Auto-Lights

  • Standard / room-based: lights turn on if all human Zois in the room are awake
  • Time-based: Same as above, but the lights only turn on at night or if the room has no windows
  • Proximity: the light only turns on if an awake Zoi is within a number of squares away from the light
    • This is good for desk, bedside, and night lights

Auto-Curtains

As a side note, curtains should also have a time-based option, like lights.

Gameplay Effects

Note: players should have the option to toggle gameplay effects off.

Lights On

  • Lights can increase the cost of an electricity bill
  • Lights can wake up sleeping Zois
    • This should also include sunlight for all non-covered windows

Lights Off

  • Zois, especially clumsy Zois, are more likely to stumble or make mistakes in dark surroundings
    • This should exclude:
      • Zois that dislike lights
      • Interactions that have their own “light”, like computing and TV watching

Both

  • Zois can like or dislike bright lights and earn buffs associated with them

Other Notes

If possible, being nearby a lit screen (TV, computer) should count as “nearby light”.
