Tragedies in game: Kjun's discord feedback response

After reading Kjun’s response in which he welcomes ideas for the kind of tragedies or “darker side of life“ we would like to see in game, I wanted to share my ideas and ask for you to add yours too, as this topic is very exciting /(the idea that we will finally have those darker parts of life in a life sim, I mean).

TRAGEDIES: A DARKER SIDE OF LIFE

Petty crimes: these would not cause your zoi to be inmediatly arrested and sent to jail, at least if they manage to not get caught.

  • Petty Theft: The theft of low-value items, such as shoplifting a pen, stealing a bike, or taking small items from work.

  • Pickpocketing: Stealing from random NPCs you see on the street, wwith random chances of being caught by the victim or going unnoticed, and a random chance of getting a lot of money, just a bit of money, or an empty wallet.

  • Shoplifting: Being able to steal from shops other than Nook, and the police doesn’t magically know that you did it, you could get a random chance to be caught by the employees, in which case they will call the police, or being succesful and leaving with the stolen items).

  • Vandalism/Criminal Mischief: Minor acts of property damage, such as spray-painting graffiti or breaking a window.

  • Disorderly Conduct: Behaviors that disturb public peace or order, like public intoxication or causing a disturbance.

  • Minor Assault: The ability of our bad-guy zois to just push, punch or trip people of their choice, even if they are NPCs and they do not have negative relationship with them. [You would not be able to do such things to children]

  • Being a fugitive: If your zoi commits a crime or an offense and police are looking for your zoi, they could get a “fugitive” tag and should hide from the police for at least a day to avoid going to jail.

More serious crimes:

  • Bribing: both the police if you are “lucky” enough to find a corrupt cop, or accepting a bribe if you want to be said corrupt cop.

  • DUI: in order to keep it PG13, it can be named differently

  • House/Car roberies: the possibility of suffering and/or committing a robery either of a car or a house (at night if you don’t want to get caught).

  • Internet scams: Posting scam ads on the internet with a chance for npc zois to fall for these scams. Zoi’s skill in charisma or other skills could affect the outcome of the scam. Also random pop ups for zois that are not scammers in which the polayer has to discern wherther they are being offered a real opportunity or a scam.

  • Gang vs Gang: There is currently an illegal organization in every city that allows players to have a rabbit hole criminal job. If the was two per city, there could be drama and fights between zois from different cars.

Sad, Bad & Social:

Besides different types of petty crimes, it would be a nice addition to get some more emotional stuff added to the game:

  • Friendship Breakups: it does sting when your bestie gives back the bracelet you got them for their bday, doesn’t it?

  • Stalking: Having an stalker (with limits) or becoming a stalking fan as options. Could add a lot of interesting gameplay, even though I do not know how feasible it would be to implement such things. Interactions like following someone around, taking pictures of others from a distance, sending anonymous letters (love or hate anonymous letters), peeping into the windows.

  • Funerals & Grieving Periods: Adding different types of funeral, or the grievance of those who are no longer with us would add much depth to the game. Home Altars, Cemetery visits, Funeral Services etc.

  • School/Work Cliques: Getting a nemesis to our zois? Creating our own office drama? Yes please! [This would also add some fun gameplay to the Kpop careers for sure]

  • Revenge: when I think Revenge I am thinking “The Glory”, but sending mean letters or spreading rumours would also be fine.

  • Scandals/Rumours: Specially for idols, the chance to spread rumours or had rumours spread about an idol zoi, getting canceled, dating scandals… the such!

  • More dramatic break ups and divorces: slapping, screaming, trashing the exe’s car, posting bad rumours online, etc.

  • Minor injuries: Instead of instantly dying from some car crashes and motorbyke crashes, zois could get injured and have to go get checked at the hospital, go to pyshical therapy, get their broken leg or arm bandaged.

These are pretty good ideas.

Another type of tragedy would be pests. This is an offshoot of the picnic mat post, but having pests can bring more misery to your Zoi’s life. For example, when your home is up to a certain filth level you can start getting roaches, flies, ants and mice. We can already see dirt accumulate in a Zoi’s home but having little creeping crawling things can really pack a punch. Your Zoi doesn’t have to be eaten by flies like in the Sims 2 but seeing the utter degrading living situation would be interesting.

Currently we see homeless scratching themselves because they’re dirty. How about a chance they if your Zoi is dirty enough for a long period of time they can get bedbugs. Or once stray animals start getting more personality, the chance for your Zois to get flees. This can spread to your Zoi’s housemates and cause a negative moodlet.

These are great ideas too, omg I’d be scared to death if I saw those tiny creatures infesting my zoi’s house, but it would give so much drama, and for my dystopian save it would be a great addition.

Since we have the option to have animals in our city, hopefully it’ll be implemented for them to move around a bit. It would be interesting for rundown, dystopian cities to have rats scampering about. Maybe if you try to pet them there’s a chance they’ll bite you and you can get sick. Same with the decorative racoons.

Rats going around would definitely help create this dystopian, sort of abandoned world. I hadn’t thought about it before, but I’m on board!

If they add pests, there NEEDS to be an option to turn them off for players with specific phobias.

This is true, but any options which allow players to create a dystopia need to be well, optional, as that is not how everyone plays. Some of us like our utopia. :grin:

Of course, I think it should be optional as some people do not like it and it would not be fair to push it on everyone.

I really hope we can turn this off. I you’ve ever had to witness someone breaking in into your home, you really don’t want to relive it ö.ö It’s terrifying.

It would be interesting if you can have bruising after you get into a fight with a burglar or just in general. The same with getting into an accident. Maybe even loosing a tooth or two which links to an old post of mine regarding dental.

TW: Injury

Another thing to add to a dystopian or tags to riches style of gameplay would be to have dirty nails, messy hair and torn clothes.

It’s these small details that can really bring out a story.

Ok, I’m glad of course. But honestly, I’m starting to think I can’t be impressed or inspired anymore, because gameplay-wise Kjun mostly copies Sims instead of creating something original. Burglars – just a Sims clone. Traits – just a Sims clone. We’re out here inventing, and he doesn’t even look this way – he’s in Sims and with its fan base, pulling most of it directly out of Sims.

I also like my utopias and want all of this to be optional. I would use some of these features in dystopian settings, but not for a lot of my towns.

Regardless of their environment, I’m really not one to torture my sims / zois, or want bad things to happen to them.

Some of these ideas doesn’t have to be in traditionally dystopian. Holes in your Zoi’s clothes can mean they’re into skater grunge fashion. There can be an inverted rags to riches and a Zoi wants to get away from the capitalistic lifestyle. A Zoi can be happy living like a hippie who hardly bathes and befriends the mice in their house like a Disney princess.

Actually, that would be pretty interesting to trap animals like rats, cats, dogs, and racoons and then keep them as pets.

Indeed. Although it’s still far away, I’m very curious about how pets will work in the game, and what kind of pets will we be able to have. Small rodents all always good company, and racoons are hilarious!
