Rundown cities watered down: bug or feature?

Sorry about the “watered down” expression. What I mean is that since the August 20th update, the visual effect of rundown cities is almost unnoticeable, at least in my game. (Images provided bellow). I am unsure if this is an intented feature of the update, or a bug that is ocurring only in my game. I’ve tried different saves, different worlds and it’s the same.

Not going to lie, I loved how rundown cities looked before, and I was enjoying my distopic, post-apocaliptic storylines so It’d be great if I could fix it.

This is how rundown cities used to look:

comedy bonus haha :custom_heart:

I see no difference at all between the two states in your images. Must be a bug? I haven’t tried checking this since the update, but I did mess with it on launch and thought it was pretty cool (though I haven’t used it as I prefer the “clean” state).

Something else to test when I get home!

I just took the same screenshots like you at Cahaya in my game and there is a difference
(I don’t use mods, if that might be the issue maybe?)

I can’t see the images too clearly, there does seem to be more difference than OP’s screens. However, the change still appears more subtle than I remember it being - though perhaps that is just because it is Cahaya and that world is a bit more dusty to start with?

I will have a look and see what Dowon looks like when I can - that city looks like a zombie apocalypse with the slider at min.

When you focus on the cars in the background and the streets, for example, you see the difference better.
But you are right, Dowon was much more apocalyptic

Can you do the same with your Blissbay and Dowon? I don’t have mods active so it cannot be that. It’s supposed to look very rundown like in this picture not like in the picture you sent.

It was more run-down before the update for sure, but I guess this is what we have to expect from an Early Access game. Developers are still testing things out.
Maybe this will be a feature/theme in a future DLC :man_zombie:
There was/is also the issue that the run-down effect didn’t affect zoi-owned buildings, furniture and stuff, so this feature definitely needs more love. But the team is actually busy getting the game ready for full release, so I guess it’s delayed/damped down for reasons.

But I love how dirty the cars already are :3

Yes. That’s exactly what I meant. It looked post apocalyptic before, with even the buildings looking rusty and abandoned for years but now you have to look specifically at cars or the ground to notice and it’s still a very faint effect. I guess it’s not a bug them, but a change with the update.

Time to make a post in whislist for it to come back!

It’s very odd that the effect has been reduced to that degree, especially when it was on a slider to begin with. There is now virtually no difference unless you use the min/max settings, rendering the others obsolete.

Not sure if this could be an oversight, an effect of some other changes, or deliberate because… ? We will have to wait and see.

As I say, I never used the “apocalypse” mode anyway (yet at least), but I do like the idea that this may be more of a fully-fledged feature at some point, in some way.
