Is anyone else disappointed that the run down version of cities no longer looks run down?
I’ve been working on filling a cyberpunk / dystopian city for awhile now. Well, I guess I can forget about that. With the slider all the way down now, the towns basically look the same. There’s no more post apocalyptic dystopian version. I’ve included before and after photos on the same setting. Two photos are from June and two photos are from the other day.
Out of the five towns I have, they’ve made changes that have made two unplayable. It’s to the point that I really don’t think they want us to customize, or enjoy game play. I didn’t even get to play this town because I was working on filling it with my characters (in case they still auto-generate families into houses). A lot of game play, characters, and things I was going to upload to Canvas are pretty much useless now.
Why did they do this? Did anyone ask for this? Why can’t we just keep the full effects of the slider? If people don’t want a run down town, they just don’t have to move the slider that far down. I hate how they go on about how much they want you to customize this game and then take that away at every turn.
This wasn’t like this before the Cahaya update. My wish is that they would change this back to the way it was and actually let us have customizable game play. Too many times I’m stuck playing the game they want me to, not what I actually want to do. Do the devs even play this game?
My theory is, it’s saved for a future DLC It wasn’t really that fleshed out either since the built houses and placed objects weren’t run-down and didn’t fit. But I really hope we get it back soon.
That didn’t really matter to me, since the lived in houses were going to be my more cyberpunk part. Why take it away and save it for later? It’s not like the game is overflowing with features and people are playing this now.
I think it’s like with the cats atm. Just a hint of what’s to come. If it’s going to be a feature in a future DLC and/or needs more work, we’ll just have to wait until it’s done/ready. That’s the way early access goes, back and forth.
It didn’t need more work. It’s a slider and they could have just left it. It was fine as is and they already gave it to us. Expand on it later for a DLC instead of taking it from us now. They even had their own dystopian setting.
Also, it’s not like they’ve taken animals away even though they are going to expand on that as well. Why do it with this? I was enjoying it now and I’ve paid to beta test this game.
She’s not mistaken, it wasn’t half-assed or incomplete, it was actually working. I thought it was a neat feature and am disappointed that a fully-functional RP feature was probably removed just to avoid the extra work to support Cahaya.
I’ve been working on a city that I haven’t even been able to play because I don;t want random families moved in. All of that useless now. It doesn’t look dystopian at all anymore.
Then they say they want you to customize the game ad play how you want. No they don’t when they don’t respond to complaints and constantly remove features I was using.
I just created my new game. I set sanitation and fire safety to the lowest setting, and changed the environment setting to rundown. You’re right, it doesn’t look anything like it used to.
I’m wondering if it takes time for the city to look that bad after the 2.0 update?
If it is something like @LennyOgg suggested (it either needs more work or will be a feature of a future DLC), then I hope they’ll be able to do it really well! If it’s a few tweaks to make the interiors match the player’s setting for clean vs rundown, then I hope they’ll be able to add that later this year or early next year.
Potential Dystopian City DLC
If it would be DLC, I’d want it to go even further, and enable players to enjoy any level of dystopia regardless of their preferences for the appearance of the city (clean vs rundown). They could enjoy the maximum beauty of the city while the zois live in a system designed to oppress the people.
A fully dystopian city would include corruption at the highest level. Utility bills, food prices for anything purchased outside the home, salaries, interest rates, etc. should fluctuate (within certain boundaries) to represent unfair financial manipulation/price-gouging. Not so much that it wouldn’t be fun to play, but enough to make life harder.
The behaviour of the police would depend on City Safety and whatever level of dystopia a player sets. For maximum dystopia, the number of police around the city should be very high, and they should randomly search, harass, or even demand bribes from zois. Police should rarely respond to crime and even commit crimes themselves.
A truly dystopian city DLC would really fascinating! A clash of historic, modern and future architecture can give a sense of chaos. The buildings can look warn and we’ll used, even on more peaceful settings. It could be a layered city with the haves and have nots. A city that comes to mind for me would be Chongqing, China.
With a dystopia not everywhere is going to be on fire constantly. You need the haves and the have nots. There can be a tiny area where the rich elite can live. If your Zoi doesn’t have a residence or or have a job in that wealthy area police can fine or jail your Zoi walking down those nicer streets. Unfortunately, there are plenty of examples in the real world that show off great wealth disparity, for example Manila in the Philippines.
To add to the crimes mentioned by other posters can be kidnappings. There can be a chance one of your Zoi’s friends or family can get snatched by criminals. You’ll have the option of contacting authorities (that may or may not help) or pay a ransom. If you don’t pay the ransom that Zoi is GONE and be presumedly dead. I got inspired with BitLife with this one.
That’s all well and good, but is more complicated. I’m excited for anything they could do in the future, but that’s no reason to not let us keep and play with what we have (had) now. Like, how hard is it to just leave it? What’s the good sense in taking this away?
You could still get this to an extent with the slider (and some custom downloads). Why take away what we have now? Where is the harm in just leaving it as it was and letting people enjoy game play?
I called my town Piss Bay and I never got the chance to really play it.
The vibe that was lost. I never really had a chance to play it because I didn’t want random families moved in. This was plenty good enough for me if I just got the chance to actually enjoy it.
Of course, they could add more and make this and that feature, but it’s important to not take away things.
Unfortunately, a lot of things have been taken away when they could’ve been kept as options, such as: messages from Psycat reminding you to keep up with the city’s karma, receiving gifts from friends, and obviously the city appearance customization.
I think if they didn’t want Cahaya made rundown, it could’ve had the slider do minimal changes, but the other cities could still be made completely rundown.
I hope they restore the ability to make our cities fully rundown.
Thank you! I was still having fun setting things up, but definitely wanted to see it in action. I was making cyberpunk versions of a lot of my characters and some characters that were specifically dystopian focused. My idea was they were rebuilding post-apocalypse. Now if I play it, it won’t look like this at all.
I hope you have all your characters and outfits saved. When the city appearance customization is restored you’ll need to start a new game to make sure all the up-to-date fixes are applied. (Some fixes only apply to new games.)
I’m playing a city with some custom characters, and my game is several updates old, but there’s an autonomy bug that affects those custom characters I don’t play (and my own when they’re off-screen). They don’t take care of their needs and are seen starving or urgently needing the bathroom, etc. around town.
I have no idea if that’s been fixed, so I avoid adding custom characters who aren’t part of my main household (unless they’re intended to be romantic interests and hopefully move them into the main household).
I should be clear that I want the City Appearance customization to be restored, so players can make their cities look truly rundown like before the 2.0 update. (Cahaya could have reduced effect with the rundown vs clean adjustment.)
If they ever do make a dystopian DLC, I would really want players to be able to experience the dystopian features in any city.
A special dystopian city (like you described) as part of the hypothetical DLC would be truly amazing! If the intensity of the dystopian oppression could be adjusted by the players, then it would be possible for players to enjoy the new city without the dystopian oppression, etc. by setting the level to very lowest. Such a city would be fun to play in even if you don’t want any added hardship of fluctuating police behaviour, prices, utilities, etc.
