I asked Ai to give me some examples for different categories for randomly occuring autonomous events in the sims 2 that add some unpredictability and hardship to the game. I would love to have somethig like that and to be able to turn it on/off, maybe instead of autonomy it can be called random events and you can turn that off in the settings for those who don’t want it.
Career & Work Life
Things your Sims decide (or suffer) without your permission:
-
Autonomous job quitting due to low mood, low aspiration, or poor performance
-
Random chance cards while at work that:
-
Promote your Sim
-
Demote them
-
Fire them entirely
-
-
Fears triggering career failure (e.g. fearing job loss → actually losing job)
-
Skipping work if motives are too low (especially Energy or Comfort)
-
Getting fired for poor performance even if you meant to fix it later
Social & Relationship Drama
The game loves stirring the pot:
-
Autonomous flirting — even with married Sims

-
Jealousy reactions that instantly nuke relationships
-
Slap fights after being caught cheating
-
Unprompted arguments when Sims have low relationship scores
-
Best friends → enemies in minutes if autonomy is high
-
Breakups triggered by aspiration failure or jealousy
Romance, Love & Family
Peak soap-opera energy:
-
Autonomous proposing or rejecting proposals
-
Unexpected pregnancy (especially with risky woohoo mods, but base game can still surprise you)
-
Engagement jealousy — Sims reacting badly to someone else’s proposal
-
Autonomous baby care refusal when Sims are exhausted
-
Running away teens if aspiration drops too low
-
Forced adoptions if social worker intervenes
Aspirations, Wants & Fears
The invisible puppet masters:
-
Aspiration failure spirals → crying, panic, bad decisions
-
Lifetime want fulfillment causing instant platinum mood
-
Fear fulfillment causing aspiration crashes
-
Sims autonomously chasing wants (marriage, cheating, promotions)
-
Aspiration rewards backfiring if overused (hello, obsession)
Death, Accidents & Disasters
Classic Sims dark humor:
-
Kitchen fires from low Cooking skill
-
Electrocution while repairing appliances
-
Starvation if autonomy + low motives align badly
-
Satellite crashes (rare, but iconic)
-
Drowning if ladders mysteriously disappear (
) -
Death by flies if hygiene gets really bad
Supernatural & Weird Stuff
This is where Sims 2 gets spicy:
-
Ghosts haunting lots at night
-
Poltergeist activity (objects moving, Sims panicking)
-
Alien abductions → surprise alien pregnancies (male Sims only)
-
Nightmares waking Sims up screaming
-
Possession-like behavior during aspiration failure
Household & Environment
The house itself turns against you sometimes:
-
Plumbing failures flooding rooms
-
Appliance breakdowns in chains
-
Burglaries if alarms are missing or broken
-
Repo man taking objects for unpaid bills
-
Neighbors reacting badly to noise or mess
-
Pets autonomously running away (with expansions)
I also asked Ai to think of other ideas for random events:

Romance, Love & Relationship Mayhem
-
Sudden Crush
