Game crashing when launching character creation studio/starting a new save

OS version: Windows 11 (10.0.26200 Build 26200)

CPU: AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 w/ Radeon 880M

GPU: AMD Radeon™ 880M Graphics

RAM: 16.0GB

Storage: 927GB

  • Issue Date: Since around January 2026

  • Error Message: N/A

  • Details: Upon attempting to launch the character creation studio from the game’s main menu, the game immediately and consistently crashes, sending me right back to Steam. This also occurs when attempting to start a new game. I am able to play existing save files with little to no issues at all. I don’t believe I began having this issue until January 2026. I tried searching through the forums as well as on Reddit for anyone experiencing a similar issue and couldn’t find anything, my apologies if this has been discussed already. The issue is quite frustrating as I’d really like to experience the full scope of what this game has to offer :broken_heart: has this issue occurred for anyone else? Does anyone know how I might be able to fix this?

Hey there, welcome to the inZOI forum!

Thank you for reporting this crash issue. Unfortunately, we’ve had various reports about crashes with game versions after the December updates.

Since you’re using mods, please try to disable them before going into CAZ as either New Game or CAZ itself. Big new updates tend to corrupt many mods which then leads to those crashes.

If this does not fix your problem, please try to switch back to the available older inZOI version. You can find it in the Steam inZOI settings > game versions & betas > 2025-12-22. Then report back whether either of these suggestions fixed the crashes :grinning_face:

Thanks so much for the quick reply! I don’t know why I didn’t think to try that earlier, I just disabled all mods and the character creation studio opened immediately :skull: I’ll try making my new Zoi/save file and turning my mods back on after the fact. Thank you so much for helping me find a workaround :growing_heart: :sparkles:

After many many tries I have gotten into Buildmode. I’ll share what I did to get it fixed.

  1. Delete mods while in Inzoi in-game “Installed Mods”

  2. Close the game

  3. Manually deleted files on desktop | documents/InZOI/User_data/88849

  4. in search window type/copy in %localAppdata%/inZoi/user_data/88849 (if nothing comes up you don’t have the file. If you have it delete the mods

  5. Make sure your pre-sets do not have missing thumbnails or files. if you find any missing files delete them. go to> | documents/inZoi/Gallery

  6. Check any content you downloaded from the Gallery and delete any missing files (I looked for ones with no thumbnails

  7. Go to your Steam Account and right click on the game in your library and select Verify Files - (At this point I restarted the game and was able to get on but it would still crash or freeze and I could not upload to Canvas. (If I tried to save it crashed, I also think it was crashing when the game tried to auto save)

  8. I then found this video and I did all the steps and the graphics became super fast, clear and crisp and and the game looks even more amazing! :heart_eyes: So follow all the steps in the video. https://youtu.be/iNXF3YBT6J8
