Hi Kjun! I’m just reading that the new beta version for the new engine doesn’t have mod support. Please add mod support to that version. Modders are working hard to bring content to the game and with the new engine it’s basically rendering our work useless. I’m pretty sure a lot of people also love playing with mods, particularly because some content in the game is still lacking due to it being early access, so please take this into account. There was to be a way to make mods compatible with the new version, even if it’s an experimental one like the beta version itself.
Summary: please make mods compatible with the new beta version before the live release.
Also please give us some information about what will happen to our mods when the migration to the new engine release goes live. Current modkit is based on UE5.4 so what are the implications ,
Will we be able to update them with a click and migrate them to a new modkit with a click?
Will we have to redo them from scratch in a new modkit based on the new UE5 enigne?
Because it is already disappointing that our mods wont be compatible so fewer people are going to use them (which is the whole purpose of modding), we just want to know if we should stop doing mods until the new engine because I don’t want to be remaking 200+ mods from scratch.
It’s only fair to give us this information, as modders have been using their time and efforts to create content for this game for months now.
You have to include the information of mods in bug reports, and most of current bugs have nothing to do with mods, so the outcome will be the same that we currently have.
We also are asking for clarification to what will happen to our mods when the engine updates. Modding takes a lot of time and effort and we deserve what will happen to our work, and what we should do until the final version is released because again, this is real people using their real life time to make free content for other users.
That’s why good features should always be part of the basic game and not rely on mods.
It baffles my mind ppl think otherwise (well, except for not politically correct mods or mods antithesis to the soul/theme of the game. For those I agree.
Regardless of my feelings on mods, I agree the new version should have mod support
I don’t create mods, but I would like to use them for clothing, however at the moment using mods often makes the game very unstable.
I hadn’t played with mods since October, because some of them would crash the game and I really didn’t have the patience to test them one by one, given the frequent updates.
Last night I felt like trying some mods again. I load 6 of them, the game closes.
I try just one, apply my texture, load it on Canvas and when I load my save a warning appears saying the mod was created with the previous version of the modkit and therefore wasn’t compatible.
As somebody who mods a lot, I think the best thing the devs could do is to allow mods to be used at a later time during the testing period. Possibly a week before the release would be ideal. This would greatly help modders with updating what is necessary before actual release and it would help reduce stress levels on the modders’ end.
This game is in early access. The priority of everyone should be the game to stabilize and have the intended UI, performance, functionality, game play etc. How can players think of modifying a continuously changing game and expect that the developers should agree to this wish? How can mods ever be priority than the development of an in-development game?
Since the developers have already included support for mods, it is unlikely that they will remove it completely. Their focus now is stabilizing the game. I’m sure they will look at mod support later. They have heard this request.
I respect and applaud all mod creators, but friends, can we not have the game in a good shape first, and then think of modifying it further? Let’s be patient and take one step at a time. This beta test should be about the game first. Support the developers in this with appropriate tests and reports. Let the game stabilize with this engine in place. Then ask about mods.
Kjun definitely saw the request, because we posted it right when he was typing his post, and he reacted to three posts before his comment response, put on mine, then and .
So, let’s not pressure him, whatever Kjun decides is how it’s going to be. We know what kind of sh_t is happening with that other life sim.
