Let me begin by stating that I truly appreciate that ghosts are in the game for all the players who enjoy paranormal elements in their life sim games! Playing as a ghost or with haunted locations would be a lot of fun for many players—I’m completely aware of that and love it that people can enjoy inZOI the way they want to.
However, while they get to play with the feature they want, I don’t have the option to not have ghosts or other occult/fantasy features that might be added in the future. Since the beginning of the Early Access phase, I’ve had the impression that customizing things—especially our cities—was going to enable players to actually play the game the way they want to (within reason, of course).
In my game, my business is being haunted by a ghost who has Best karma and should’ve crossed over by now, but it’s haunting my business and hampering my ability to make a good profit. There’s nothing I know of that I can do to get rid of it.
Please give us the option to keep any paranormal, occult, or fantasy elements out of our cities if that’s how we want to play. It would be nice as a Manage City option. If I could set mine to none, other players could set theirs to Very High! I know players who enjoy those kinds of elements in their game would love to have control over the population, frequency of encounters, etc.
A Manage City option would probably make many, many players happy!
Fully agree! I even had to abandon a save after building it up to the 3rd generation just because of too many ghosts in the city. The Zois are unable to perform normal actions in the city anymore because everybody is scared and looking at the ghost activity all over the place.
i agree but i think its important that whatever features get added intersect with korean culture and values. im saying this as a black/indigenous canadian lol
That’s definitely the hope. However, I’ve seen a lot of people requesting different fantasy and occult creatures, and market pressure can do strange things.
The devs had added karma to the game because it’s important in Korean culture. But they took it out. Now karma is a resource the ghosts need to cross over. I think the plan is that later, a player who plays the ghost of a zoi could then play the Fate Engine concept like some type of reincarnation story.
Nevertheless, we have ghosts in the game that are not making the game more enjoyable, let alone more Korean. So we need a real solution for players who don’t want any ghosts at all, and for players who want to play multiple generations in a city and not have the ghost problem @EllaEstella wrote about in the quote below. And I want to play a multigenerational family!
Before the ghosts were added to the game, the way they were talked about made it sound like our zois could go around the city helping ghosts to move on so our city wouldn’t be overrun.
If the game was like that, then there would be something players could do about conditions they find unpleasant.
Unfortunately, I don’t think ghosts are what the devs initially wanted, nor what players who wanted ghosts wanted.
Is anyone truly happy with the current ghost-related gameplay? (None of us can speak for others. It’s a rhetorical question.)
And here are also screenshots from a YouTuber’s video. She was given a demo to play. Note the date is August 27, 2024. Even back then, the game already had the concept of ghosts as playable characters. So I’m pretty sure this is what the developers wanted.
The developers wanted ghosts to be in the game, I know that. But if there isn’t a way we can get rid of excess ghosts through natural gameplay, then the ghost feature is causing problems and needs addressing.
I wouldn’t mind the ghost if there’s something I could do about it through gameplay, but right now, all I can do is apparently use a cheat to delete the ghost.
If one of my zoi’s die, I have the opportunity to play them for three days if I feel like it. That’s it. If players can only play as a ghost for three days, then the ghosts in the city should pass on to the afterlife after 3 days.
The problem for me is this: a ghost is ruining my game and there is no gameplay method to get rid of it.
I also think that it was clearly intended and planned early on to bring ghosts into the game and this is completely fine. But I really don’t think that it was intended to make complete saves nearly unplayable due to a growing ghost population over time. And it seems to become worse and worse over time as more and more Zois die.
In one of my saves I was at the point that you go to the gym and cannot use the equipment because a ghost is using it - and what happens - every Zoi in the room is scared and examinating the paranormal activity instead of using the remaining gym equipment. You go to the city square and some ghost is playing an instrument - and again everybody near this location is not able to do anything else as long as the ghost plays. You go to the beach and some ghost is performing at the microphone - same. And even after the ghost stops the activity it takes a couple of minutes and the same or another ghost does it again. And so on, and so on, and so on…
I think with more an more generations the ghost population is growing and becoming a problem for a normal gameplay. I really hope this gets addressed either in the way that we can switch it off or that the game deletes ghosts after a certain amount of days so that it keeps balance.
Currently, the ghost feature that @treeofowl thinks is defensible because it was on the road map does nothing to enhance gameplay or make it fun. In fact, ghosts act as a type of expiration date for our save games!!
If a save game cannot remain playable for even three generations, then inZOI has FAILED as a life sim game.
Sure, not all players play multiple generations, but so many players who enjoy family gameplay do want to play for more generations and develop a long family legacy.
Considering that a player can only play their dead zoi as a ghost for 3 days in order to collect karma for the afterlife, then ALL ghosts in the game should transition to the afterlife after 3 days.
Instead, I have 20% of my city population being ghosts with Best karma who should get out of my save game because their afterlife is waiting!
I didn’t know ghosts increased in number in saves. I thought you just didn’t like their presence. I haven’t encountered this; their number hasn’t increased over time in my save. But my playstyle is to stay in one generation for a long time and slow down the aging process using cheats. Aren’t ghosts supposed to disappear after three days? Maybe you should report this as a bug
I would like to have no ghosts ever, I want to play life simulation not death simulation, and as fact there are no ghosts irl, these are evil spirits (fallen angels that fell with Satan aka demons) pretending to be a dead family member or whoever and of course they leave when we call upon the name of the LORD to cast them out, I’ve seen this done and it works, however some players have fantasies of playing with ghosts and I have no interest, so please give us a setting to turn ghosts off as @Starwing asked for
It’s very unfortunate how many ghosts have built up in my city. My Young Adult newlyweds have only just aged to adult now (so I’ve played perhaps 32 in-game days) and over 20% of my city population is ghosts with perfect karma.
I didn’t think it would be a problem at first. It seemed like just a stat until I actually had my business become haunted. My zoi family doesn’t even know anyone who died, so I didn’t expect any involvement with ghosts at all.
It’s making it really hard to earn money at my business because everyone is just scared and gawking at thin-air because they sense a presence or they saw something move that shouldn’t.
I would report it as a bug but the devs have never clarified what should happen with the NPC ghosts. If there was a gameplay method of getting rid of them, then I wouldn’t mind. It’s part of the game and I’d play out the solution to get the spirit to go away. Apparently, my only hope right now is a cheat.
I’ve started micromanaging the town so seniors get deleted before they can die, but there are also car accidents and other ways of dying.
I like to play the way you do for some games, too, but for family games, I just love seeing the babies grow up and have babies of their own. I really want to keep it going as long as I can until there’s a change in the game that makes me need to start over, rather than an over-abundance of ghosts that make it so no new babies can be born. That’s the other problem of too many ghosts (which the game tells us about), but seeing them ruining the town like @EllaEstella wrote about would most likely happen before the ghost population prevents new births.
Actually we already asked for it and reported this issue back in November / December:
Looking at my own post in this thread from back then I see I was at the second generation then. And it was annoying but somehow still playable. Starting with the 3rd I could not keep it going that way anymore as it became more and more.
I just don’t understand why we are not given a clear indication how this actually should work. It cannot be meant the way it is now. So yes, maybe a bug post refereing to the both wishlist threads is not a bad idea. At least the bugs are more looked after by the Inzoi team. Not sure if that has been already posted though.
