Hello, Ive updated the game to latest build but my zois look different, it affects few zois more than others

i noticed this too, i think they made bodies more realistic in a update so it kind of makes sense

Ah this is why when I select old zois they look different, and not quite what I created.

[URGENT BUG] Female-Only Age Morph Distorts Jaw Structure & Breaks Character Continuity (v0.8.0)

The Core Issue: Structural Morphing vs. Player Intent

After the April 29, 2026 (v0.8.0 / UE 5.6) update, the aging system for female Zois has been fundamentally altered. This is not a shader or lighting issue; it is a hard-coded morph that rewrites the underlying facial bone structure across life stages.

Critically, this is gender-specific. It does not appear to affect male Zois or female children, suggesting a severe miscalibration or a problematic design choice specifically targeting the female aging assets from Teen to Senior.

Observed Structural Breakage

  • Teen & Young Adult: The jaw becomes unnaturally narrow and pinched. Faces are forced into an extreme “V-line” shape, overriding custom sculpts. Carefully sculpted oval, round, or realistic jaws appear cartoonishly thin.

  • Adult / Middle Age / Senior: The jaw suddenly becomes wider, heavier, and more squared. The face gains a masculine structural weight never intended by the player, making the character visually inconsistent and unrecognizable compared to their younger self.

The Result: Continuity is destroyed. If a player adjusts the jaw to look correct as a Young Adult, the Adult version becomes deformed. If they fix the Adult version, the Young Adult version breaks. Players are now forced to choose between broken aging or maintaining multiple separate versions of the same character.

Analysis: Bug or Intentional Standard?

If this change was intentional, it is problematic as it imposes a narrow, unrealistic “V-line” beauty standard on youth while forcing a “masculine squareness” onto adulthood.

  1. Scientific Inaccuracy: Real facial aging involves bone resorption and soft tissue changes that cause the jawline to soften or decline. It does not typically involve the mandible widening or squaring off into a larger bone structure during middle age.

  2. Harmful Archetypes: This system removes the ability to create diverse, realistic women who age naturally, instead forcing them into standardized silhouettes regardless of their “base DNA.”

  3. Unrealistic Aging: Middle-aged Zois currently look like Elders due to excessive, baked-in wrinkles and structural collapse that should be optional sliders, not mandatory transforms.

Impact on the Community

  • Ruins Canvas Creations: Thousands of Zois created before v0.8.0 now have “broken” faces. Hours of meticulous sculpting have been invalidated by this update.

  • Kills Creativity: Players are now forced to fight against the engine’s “ideal” face shape rather than being allowed to sculpt their own. It discourages users from utilizing the aging mechanic entirely.

  • Loss of Identity: Because the system reshapes the character regardless of player input, the sense of “character identity” throughout a life simulation is lost.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open CAZ and create/load a female Zoi with a soft or oval jaw.

  2. Set the age to Teen or Young Adult; observe the narrow, pinched “V-line” jaw.

  3. Change the age to Adult or Middle Age; observe the jaw widening and squaring aggressively.

  4. Attempt to correct the jaw in one stage and notice the distortion it causes in the other.

Required Fixes & Actions

  • Verify Female Morph Weights: Immediately investigate why this structural shift is gender-exclusive and revert the “pinched” YA jaw to its pre-patch state.

  • Separate Bone Structure from Age: The player’s sculpted mandible and midface width must remain 100% consistent across all life stages.

  • Implement Soft-Tissue Aging: Transition aging effects to soft-tissue systems (wrinkles, jowling, skin laxity) rather than rewriting the character’s skeleton.

  • Add Intensity Sliders: Provide players with sliders for wrinkle depth and morph strength, allowing them to disable structural aging changes if desired.

Final Note: I spent significant time correcting what I thought was a shader issue, only to discover the system itself is forcing these structural changes. This has broken every female Teen-to-Senior Zoi, including those created before the update. This isn’t just an aesthetic change; it has broken identity, continuity, and realism. I strongly urge the team to prioritize this and provide a fix in the upcoming May update. Aging should preserve the face and evolve it naturally—not replace it.

Agreed FREEDOM_55, also I spent like 1h trying to fix it but its impossible, it became very distorted, I want back my old zoi face :frowning:

And I dont know why my other zoi looks almost the same but other looks weird, for example this looks almost the same just more childish :frowning: .

I only have 160 affected zois on Canvas, I could remake them all, but what about the players with age progression? The female zois faces was perfectly fine before this update, so I’m hoping the devs can revert the faces back.

Comparison: Left (YA Before Update) | Right (YA After Update). Same Zoi, Young Adult: Before vs After v0.8.0

Caption: Side-by-side of the same Zoi in the Young Adult stage before and after v0.8.0. Nothing was manually changed. The update has forced a ‘V-line’ narrowing onto the mandible. The face looks compressed and loses the original round/oval anatomical intent. After the update, the Young Adult jaw appears artificially narrower/pinched compared to the pre-update version.

Comparison: A row of 5 images: Teen → YA → Adult → Middle Age → Senior. Inconsistent Aging Morph Logic (Original Zoi)

Caption: Progression of the original, unadjusted sculpt post-update across life stages. Teen/Young Adult appear narrowed, while Adult and older stages widen/square the jaw dramatically. This suggests the issue is age morph behavior, not shader lighting.

Comparison: Top Row (YA manually adjusted to look like the ‘Before’) | Bottom Row (That same adjusted Zoi aged to Adult/Middle Age). Manual Correction vs. Aggressive Scaling. IThe Adjusted YA Jaw Looks Correct, But Aging Morph Breaks Adult Stages

Caption: I manually adjusted the YA jaw by widenning it and adjusting the cheek structure and mouth to restore her original lpre- update look (initially assuming a shader issue). However, when aged to Adult/Middle Age/Senior, the morph widens, deforms and squares the jaw excessively to a masculine sihouette. This proves manual correction at one life stage breaks the others, I cannot fix this.

Comparison: Left (Adult Screenshot Before Update) | Right (Adult Screenshot After Update)Same Zoi, Same Adult Stage: Before vs After v0.8.0. A THEORY

Caption: Same Zoi, same Adult age stage, same default CAZ lighting, zero user adjustments. The only change was updating to v0.8.0.This shows the new Adult morph after the update resembles the old facial structure of my orginal zoi more than the new Young Adult morph stage does. My theory: the original Young Adult jaw structure has been incorrectly mapped to the Adult stage in v0.8.0.

FREEDOM_55 Great analisis, I hope devs can fix it soon :frowning:

I spent a lot of time trying to fix it but yeah it distorts the other ages :frowning:

Severe facial highlight issue, adjusting glossiness has no effect. The dewy skin effect smell is too strong, completely different from the previous facial effect, greatly impacting gameplay experience. Severe facial distortion as well.

Wow?! I seriously thought i was tripping :sob: the faces of my zoi’s did change! Oh yeah, this gotta be fixed lol

@656877141 Could you explain the issue in more detail, including your system information and the graphics/settings you are using?

I only ask because the issue you’re describing sounds like it may be shader-related or shader-based, and I don’t want it to get conflated with the main issue being discussed in this thread, which is morph/structure-based facial distortion after the update.

For example, I personally have not had an issue with the new Zoi shaders, and my gloss slider still works. I have also seen some people on the subreddit say they like the new shader/skin appearance, so I think it may be helpful to separate that from the facial structure issue unless they are directly connected in your case.

I’m also not fully sure what you mean by “dewy skin effect smell.” Could you describe that further, ideally with screenshots or examples showing the difference before and after the update?

It may also be worth starting a separate thread specifically about the shader/gloss/dewy skin issue. More people may be able to understand and respond to that issue there, and I would probably agree with you if the problem were clearer and easier to compare visually. Right now, I just think it needs more detail so people can understand exactly what you are reporting.

i noticed this too, one of my zois suddenly had teeth showing and his lips looked weird i had to redo him.

@antonio3706.ag

I know! I cant understand why they would idesign it this way. It has to be a bug because I can confirm this not a feature in the lastest unrealegine meta human ( I checked directly in unrealengine meta human myself). It gives only females an unrealistc anime cartoon doll non human jaw? I thought this game was suppost to be realistic? If this was ah individual player’s preferance, they could have always done this before manually instead of globally. Why change whats not broken? Did they not consider all the other players characters that would be affected? Why only females?, very strange . And it is not listed as a change in the patch notes, it must be a bug.

I too tried fixing it, which required changing more facial features than just the width of the jaw, only to find out that it breaks the other life stages.

EDIT

I made a wishlist post, since there seems to be several other players reporting and confirming this same issue. Please post your screenshots and comments there so the developers see the volume of players affected before the May update.

this says female only, but this happened to my male zoi too. if i can rewind update’s i will and show the before and after but it made his jaw weird, and it gave him separated lips, so his teeth where showing when in the original they werent.

Hello everyone (@here),

We’d like to clarify any confusion surrounding this issue. As noted in the patch notes, this is not a bug or error — it’s an intentional improvement designed to make the visual differences between age groups more distinct.

Facial appearances have been modified to more realistically reflect each age group.

If you’re not happy with this change or feel there’s room for further improvement, please feel free to share your thoughts in the Wishlist category.

Thank you!

(As this is not a bug, we’ll be closing this thread for now.)
