Does publishing bring you any money?

I understand from the Patch notes that we can now publish our work and receive money that way. The old direct selling method is not there anymore and is now replaced by the publish button. The other option of course is to get a freelance license and take commissions. The freelance option works as expected but not the publish option as it seems.

I have pusblished 3 books already but now after 3 days have passed I don’t see any money from that. Has anybody found out how that should be working? Am I missing something? Or is the money only coming in weekly or something?

Ok - Update: there are royalties coming in but they arrive around 6 days after the work was submitted. Received 500 Mew for a good quality book and 375 Mew for a medium quality book.

Question remains if this is one time or spread over weeks and if so how many times we get royalties.

YAY!!!

Oh, this is so great! I love playing my at-home writers and other creatives. (On that, why isn’t there a freelance career for painters? I have commissioned artists to create art for me, so it should also be available for painting.)

I want them to still write, program, produce music, etc. for their own story purposes. I’m definitely going to play my indie band as I have before (they work on their new music and training), and get them some extra money from the freelance producer opportunities.

Royalties from writing has made me incredibly happy to hear!!!

@Starwing yes, I also mostly like to have freelance careers instead of the normal work schedules / normal jobs. Already in Sims times most of my Sims were freelancers or in careers where you can work from home. The good thing is that the newly added careers also offer the option to apply for remote work.

Regarding the royalties for painting: I thought the same as you  But I think they did not add it as there is already kind of a way to be a freelancer with painting when you sell your paintings via Pocket Market.

Have you played your writer who has published stuff (not freelance commissions) already for longer than 2 weeks? Do you know if we get royalties per book / other creative work only once or over several weeks?

For painting, rather than royalties, I was thinking simply of the freelancer license and app. It would be nice if someone wanted a still life painting in the freelance app, for example. Then your zoi does the job for that client, rather than when they paint what they want and sell it on Pocket Market.

I have only played him a few days so far (since he started writing), so I’m in the dark about royalties. I’m thrilled about it, though!

Just found out that royalties are not paid only once. A week later after the first payment you get money again. Cannot tell yet how many weeks this happens overall though as I mainly play rotationally and thus I am not able to check this properly.

If somebody has found out how many weeks a Zoi is paid for his pubished work - please share!

The books, videos, musics and similar works i create certainly generate income.

Yes, actually not too bad. I had one day where my programmer / criminal was on the wanted list and had to stay and hide at home in order to not run into police. He has Level 10 programming so it goes quite fast to finish a work and he had not much else to do that day. So he finished 9 programs. Now half a week later the first royalties came in and he earned 5.925 Mew only for this one day. And knowing that this is not only a one time payment - it is quite good indeed.

The royalties seem to differ, likely depending on the quality. I had different amounts: 250, 375, 500, 750 and 1.050 per program.
