I started a new game with one zoi just to see how quick we can make money just painting, I used cheat FreezeAllNeeds, so this might be a little slower without that cheat but still it’s op, I played about 5 hours with time speed X4 during painting, my zoi also did things on her computer and read books and I also did whims for the donuts shop currency, and I’m also keeping any paintings I like as decorations.
Start with a cheap house and a painting easel, as you’re painting put the for sale paintings on a wall so you can paint more, also having 8-10 easels make it faster because you can keep painting more paintings.

Alternatively, if you want to balance painting so it’s more in line with jobs (you’ll still make a killing with Joy’s trick) you can install the mod “Balanced Painting”
There’s also another one that makes it even MORE unbalanced by upping value of paintings by 10x (At this point you might as well just use the cheat o give you money)
You gain a lot of painting speed around level 7 or 8, and by 10 you can paint one in less than an hour.
I use that skill with my stay-at-home mom to make money. Works really well, even with the “Balanced Painting” installed.

Na, thanks for the recommendation though 
I don’t want mods in early access, I just did this to test the game, I use cheats AddMoney, FreezeAllNeeds, StopAging, ImmortalZoi, EditAllSite, HideCatEye, CureIllness, AddMeowCoin because I have no interest in waiting to see things playout in a creativity game

This is interesting to see how fast it went with cheats @JoyIsFunner You mean 5 hours real time not in game time right? How much time did it take in game?
I still think painting is a very powerful, even overpowered money maker compared to all other skills even without any cheats. I did not count the real time hours but within one in game week my Zoi earned nearly 100k while still sleeping, eating and taking care of the basic needs, household as well as still going to the auto created events to socialize every day. I did not count the in game time, I just started a new game and mostly painted small paintings and played for about 5 hours, imo the paintings should make a lot less money because in reality no ones going to buy a painting for $6,000 lol

In my testing, near perfect ones should sell for like 750 before pocket markup
And the perfect ones (currently 3500 ones - 6k with pocket markup) should go 1200 before markup, or about 2100-2300 with.
This is what I tested in my mod and it’s perfect as far as I can tell.
Still rewarding, but no longer absurd.
