I was hoping not all new careers would have this bug. Was it the same: when the last promotion exam was coming up right at the end of the work shift?
The only way to workaround at the moment is to use the promote cheat just before the work shift ends. That way you Zoi is already on the next level. The promotion exam still plays out and tells you that you have been promoted but in that case you already are. This seems to be the only way to still be able to play at the highest promotion level - just important to do it before the shift ends or at least to save before the shift ends to see if this bug occures or not.
That’s exactly what happened to me! I was so frustrated. Wait, there’s a cheat code for this? What is it? Thank you so much for letting me know—I was about to start a new save and wait for them to fix it
@enopi35 the cheat is simply: JobPromotion
But you need to use a save before your Zoi got fired. This cheat only works if your Zoi is in a job at the moment. After reloading several times it was clear that my Zoi is fired every single time it turns 5pm that day. Then I loaded one more time and used the cheat just before 5pm to promote her.

I now tried the IT Developer Career and was really worried it would happen as well, given that you had it with the Architect career @enopi35 and in my case it happened with the Reporter career.
Intrestingly this time all went well. Just before 5pm he is still Lead Developer:
Then at 5pm the interview triggered as expected but without my Zoi being fired:
And after the long 3 hours my Zoi got promoted to the highest position in this career as Director:
So the question is why does it happen sometimes and othertimes not? Is there something triggering it? Or is it just a simple randomly occuring bug?

Architect’s career, promotion to 3rd degree
Zois are getting fired because of their age as well… this makes no sense at all.
For example in IT career you can work only till adulthood. It should be allowed till being elder for each position other than the junior one. It is really frustrating and game-breaking bug

@lesliemoon Ok, that means it can happen at every level then. So far we had seen this for the last promotion but your case is the one before. So for the time being regular saving before the job shift ends and the promotion exam comes up is crucial as it seems - at every level…
@artur.itsme Did your Zoi got fired because of the age in one of the new careers? What age was he - you are saying adult? Because this should be a new bug then. As per the displayed Age groups you actually should be able to work in these careers until you reach Senior age group. Middle-Aged is still eligible for the Job… See screenshot:
In my case instead of Young Adult-Middle-Aged I see Young Adult-Adult. Maybe its due to the new possibility of custom selection for age groups duration and it was not tested and checked versus school and jobs. Especially promotion time takes ages in my settings (I don’t like super-long age groups).
@artur.itsme this is strange… What are your age settings? I have young adult on standard length and adult + middle aged on 0,5 length,
Yep this happend to me as well 3 times now with the Lawyer job. I got 2 times the highest promotion and always did all my tasks… I’m about to crash out cause just now I got fired for a 3th time and this is making me mad because I spend so much time in this ****. I have aging off so I bet this is a bug that came with the last patch.
Keeps happening to me. Career Architect and even partime jobs. I find it funny, because unintentionally these bugs replicate current real life economics
@blibblorb this is still a game 
If they want to simulate real life unpredictability of job safety they should at least let us know: like your company has layoffs or your boss just doesn’t like you. But at highest performance and without any reason, this is really annoying if you did not save the game.
Haha, no yes, I agree. It’s still a bug they need to address. It’s very frustrating.
