Hello, I’ve always noticed a significant difference in the MB weight displayed on Canvas compared to the weight of the object created on my hard drive and the weight that Canvas considers. As an object creator using Blender, I don’t have a limit, but after discussing with house creators, this poses a big problem. Their uploads to Canvas are often blocked due to exceeded weight limits even though everything is correct on their disk.
And we object creators are also limited by house creators when inserting our creations, at the risk of exceeding the weight that Canvas has set, even though on our respective hard drives the weights are well below the limit. A few examples below:
I don’t understand the weight of 3D objects, for some reason my first Church wouldn’t upload to Canvas, I kept trying different approaches and I did get it to upload with no 3D objects, then I made it a little smaller and got it to upload with most of the 3D objects, which is weird it let me upload everything except for two small Crosses and the whole build was under way under “the upload size limit” at which some builds on Canvas are higher than “the upload size limit”
The weight limit apparently applies to constructions, not objects, but as someone who’s obsessed with Low Poly
, it’s frustrating! to see my objects double or even triple in weight on Canvas and then have house creator contacts tell me they wanted to put this or that object of mine inside but couldn’t! because the weight limit of their construction meant it would exceed…
Catalia and I spoke about this earlier and it made me think of a recent issue I had with uploading a my bachelor pad build that was 87mb with only 3 pictures able to upload. Putting this object file size discrepancy into consideration, I wonder if behind the scenes Canvas is seeing a file much larger than the actual numbers shown when it comes to uploading houses, too, thus why I couldn’t upload all the pics for my house…?
Yes, and it’s possible that Canvas might add the weight of the photos we upload to Canvas and even the weight of the automatically generated Original.bmp and thumbnail1.jpg icons to the total size of what we share on Canvas when exporting the object to the “My3DPrinter” folder. If that’s the case, we’re in big trouble!
