Get rid of curseforge, use Steam's Workshop instead.

Curseforge is a mess, it takes forever to get mods approved (if they even approve it after 2-3 days…), their rules are so grey-line you have no idea if they’re going to block your mod or not, and then you end uploading to another platform, say Nexus.

I don’t like Curseforge, the implementation is terrible, managing/updating/installing/unsubscribing is terrible. I’ve used Steam Workshop for the longest time, and it’s always reliable. Updating mods is a breeze, sharing mods is super easy, they get quickly approved, the community can actually comment there, who comments on curseforge? no one, it’s a ghost town.

Why Steam Workshop is a good idea:

  1. Easy way to install mods.
  2. Updating is automatic.
  3. Fast review times.
  4. Creates a community beyond discord…
  5. You can review mods
  6. You can comment and report bugs
  7. You can share images and videos
  8. You can tell if a mod is working or not by reading the comments and not get stuck with a crashing mod that hasn’t been updated to the latest mod kit or is breaking the game somehow
  9. You can create mod packs and share them with others
  10. It’s intuitive and doesn’t give headaches…

Why curseforge is bad:

  1. Their rules suck, sorry, they do. I create mature mods, and it sucks I can’t share them normally and have to go find other platforms where I’m not limited by these rules. Even Paralives has been accepting more adult mods and that has nothing to do with rating, it’s all optional for the player, I don’t want a platform to tell me what I can and cannot do.
  2. They take forever to review anything.
  3. Their system is confusing.
  4. There’s no community building, it’s rare to find someone taking the time to create an account on curseforge, go to the mod, and leave a comment.
  5. The implementation to manage/update/ubsubscribe doesn’t work 90% of the time.
  6. Mods get lost in the sea of other mods, their filters are bad in-game.
  7. They limit creativity, yep, they do. It’s frustrating.

Please consider moving to Steam Workshop… ty.

This is what we have to deal with every time we update a mod with curseforge, like… why is it this complicated UGH.

I think they are using Curse because they intend to release on console & Steam Workshop obviously isnt available there, but IMO rolling their own would be a better solution than using Curse. From a user standpoint not a modder, its vastly improved compared to when it was just a Minecraft thing, but its still annoying to use. And the in game interface is even more annoying. Still haven’t figured out if its possible to install stuff directly from CAZ rather than having to exit CAZ & do it from the main menu.

Couldn’t agree more, we really need Steam Workshop.

I don’t care about the console.

Want to add onto this in with throwing my link to my request to Kjun and Co. about the problems I’ve experienced in the integrated Curseforge, this post and mine below are prime examples on either improving Curseforge and its integration within the game or swapping to Steam Workshop. Either one I would be happy with!

Hello,

As a modder myself I can’t begin to tell you how frustrating it is both the lack of support inZoi modders are receiving in the curseforge authors discord and the amount of issues we experience indeed with uploading. During the contest, I lost 6 full days of uploading with 0 explanation or even an apology, so yeah, it needs to improve A LOT.

With this beign said I disagree that migrating to steam workshop is the solution: this is not taking into account the amount of work and adaptation this would be both for modders and the devs, and while better comments are nice, support often ends up moving to Discord anyway. Plenty of Workshop games also struggle with outdated mods, compatibility issues, abandoned projects, and poor discoverability.

As for content restrictions, I understand the frustration, but I also think it’s reasonable for the official platform associated with an officially rated game to have guidelines. Players who want content outside those guidelines already have alternative places to share it.

Curseforge needs to take InZoi more seriously, overall
