I’m not sure if this suggestion has been made before, but I would really love the ability to open windows and doors. So that through an open window, city sounds would enter the room — the noise of cars, voices of passersby, birdsong, the sound of rain. And if a door to the balcony or yard is open — these sounds would be heard as well.
And another important point: the outdoor temperature should affect the room when the window is open. In summer, the room would get warm, in winter — cool. You could air out the space, and if you open the window in severe cold — the character could catch a cold or get sick. And conversely, in hot weather — get heat stroke if sitting in a draft or by an open window for too long.
And you know, opening the curtains in this game is like some kind of special magic for me. I still get a kick out of this feature every day. It adds so much life and coziness to the home. So it would be wonderful if opening windows were a game feature: in the morning you open the curtains, windows, let in the light and sounds of the city, and in the evening you close them — and the room becomes cozy and quiet. This creates a real ritual that makes you feel really connected to the game.
Additional ideas on this topic:
Enjoy the view from the window
— Add the action “Look out the window” or “Admire the view”. The character walks to the window, looks outside, and depending on the weather, time of day, and where the house is located, experiences different emotions. For example, a beautiful sunset or sunrise can lift the mood, while the sight of a gray rainy day might lower it a bit or add coziness. It’s a simple but very atmospheric action that would make homes feel more alive.
Smells and insects
— Through an open window, smells could come in (such as the smell of rain, flowers, or food from the street). This would create additional atmosphere.
— If it’s spring/summer outside — flies, butterflies, or midges could fly into the room, and the character could shoo them away or close the window.
Curtains and drapes
— To enhance realism, you could add the rippling of curtains from the wind if the window is open. This is a very cozy detail.
Drafts
— If two windows in different rooms are open, a draft occurs. This could affect the character’s health (catching a cold) and also objects — for example, papers could blow off the table.
Safety
— If the window is open and the character lives on the ground floor, there’s a small chance someone could break in. This could be tied to the crime rate in the city.
Airing out as an action
— Add a separate action “Air out the room”. The character opens the window for 10–15 minutes, then automatically closes it (if they don’t forget). This could give a temporary mood buff — “Fresh air”.
Windows in cars
— Expanding on the transportation theme: when opening a car window, you could hear city sounds louder.
Atmospheric sounds tied to time of day
— During the day — city noise, children’s voices, cars.
— In the evening — cricket chirping, occasional cars.
— At night — silence, barking dogs, distant sounds of a train or siren.

Yes. Why not. I like this idea. This is a minor detail (but pleasant), but it attracts a lot of mechanics that are not yet in the game.
Here are a few mechanics who will be affected by this feature:
We need to figure out the seasons so that the weather and air temperature affect not only the street, but also the houses on their own plots and public ones, as well as the Zois themselves. There is also a question of indoor heating and cooling: natural/wood-fired/electric/central (in other words, air intake from the street, heating and cooling using electrical devices, heating using a fireplace or central heating via batteries connected to a city boiler house)
Insects: they should be added like cats and dogs - separate living game creatures. Since there are cockroaches that resort to dirty places, beetles that eat plants and vegetables in the garden, bees that pollinate plants and can sting people (and if Zoi is allergic to them )
Theft and crimes need to be greatly improved, since now we cannot rob houses and, accordingly, no one can rob us. + Theft protection needs to be worked out: alarm system, calling the police via phone, security bars on windows, etc.
Yes. It’s a cool idea, but you need to think about how the development will implement it? No, there won’t be any problems with curtains fluttering from the wind - it’s not difficult to do this. It will be difficult to make papers and light objects blow off the table from a gust of wind, you need to calculate the wind flow and simulate it in real time without unloading, and this will be very difficult to do.: since each player builds a plot in their own way, all the geometries of the house and the location of windows and doors are different. As it is, if it is implemented, it will be +10 to realism.
I completely agree. I understand that a lot is still missing to add these mechanics. But, for example, features like “open a window” and “admire the view” could already be implemented. And I wrote this post to emphasize: the house and the surrounding world should be connected, and windows and doors are the path to that connection.
Sure, why not, though right now it’s just going to be like decoration and nothing more. But I’d really like to see this turn into a real connection with the game world around it, because right now it looks more like scenery than a living city. Ideally, we need to dig much deeper here than what we’ve described.
Oh my God, I really need this urgently! I desperately want the ability to open doors and windows in the game And it would also be cool if there was a wind gust animation coming through the window (for example, like in the game Hozy) during windy weather! And of course, adding curtains swaying in the wind would also add realism
