Would love to see an English countryside world, with cottage’s, cobbled streets, churches, with interactive chickens, cows, sheep and horses!
Yeah, I agree! I’d play that world frequently. If not, maybe for Canvatown, where players can create any world.
I’d like to see that one day too, although I would file this away as a future update after the game is out of early access as I feel they should focus on tightening the base game features to really flesh out most of the current features in the game. At the moment a lot of stuff doesn’t really mean anything, especially the gardening in the game. The ability to live off the land without the need to “spend any coin” just to eat has been impossible each time I try it and I think they should better flesh that out.
If they take the time to flesh out gardening to the point of allowing people to fully get the food in the garden onto the table, then when and if they do add farm animals, it would pair perfectly with the base game farming.
It is important not to fall into the pit of over fleshing out the game to the point it makes a farming simulation or a cooking simulation game. A good middle ground would be to introduce a few core ingredients they can later expand on if they choose, or the mod community can expand on instead.
How a solid base game farm would function:
Potato seed → Potato → flour (when processed) → Used to make cakes, etc
Potato seed → Potato → Hash browns/ french fries, etc (when not processed)
Keep recipes semi realistic, but simple. I would suggest needing anywhere between 1 to 5 ingredients to prevent over complicating the system.
If a recipe calls for say 3 ingredients, having only 1 of the ingredients gives you a discount, but having all of the ingredients makes it free.
How to tie this to farm animals:
Carrot seed → Carrot → Horse food (when processed)
Any seeds → Chicken food
Farming feeds your zois, farming feeds your animals. Animals produce waste which can be used to give you free fertilizer. The healthier and happier the animal, the better the quality.
Worlds should offer a unique way to play the game
Worlds should introduce a game hook that incentivizes players to visit them the same way different states or countries try to encourage tourism. This would encourage players to use the traveling game feature for more than just vacationing and prevents worlds from feeling like copy/paste locations with a new coat of paint on it.
The English Countryside hook could be a national farming contest and lots of horse riding space. The contest:
*Pumpkin seed → Pumpkin → Large low quality Pumpkin → Wins comp at Dowan farmer market
*Pumpkin seed → Pumpkin → Large low quality Pumpkin → Wins 3rd at English country comp
*Pumpkin seed → Pumpkin → Large high quality Pumpkin → Wins comp at English country
Offer tiered Farming Competitions like:
- Local farmers market for beginners
- A regional championship - If players enter one, it’s scheduled at the local farmer market
- Nationals held in English countryside (unless player changes it)
It would incentivize players to make use of the Inzoi travel feature, allowing travel to be about:
- Vacationing (resort in Cahaya)
- Traveling to participate in events that you planned (English country farmers comp)
- Traveling for a career (like moving to Dowon to make it big as an idol)
Sure players could essentially set up any world to hold such a grand event, but if you just want to jump into the game and play it without customizing anything, having world hooks and game play loops that incentivizes players to play and even explore is good. Any customization I make is b.c I want to and not b.c I have to.
Competition Categories
Each vegetable and/or fruit could have its own award/trophy so players could make a goal to collect all the trophies if they want. This would incentivize players to do the contest more than once if they wished to do so.
A player can place the trophies in a museum to immortalize said Zoi if they wanted to. Then at least a museum would serve some type of purpose in the game, b.c right now there is no reason to bother visiting one.
Why should anyone bother to collect all of the trophies
Reward players for collecting trophies, if a zoi wins first place trophy for pumpkins at the English country farming competition, the Zoi could become a pumpkin specialist. Being a specialist allows Zoi’s to write books about the topic and mentor others. If a zoi collects all the fruit/vegetable/herb trophies, they can become the fruit specialist/vegetable specialist/etc and write an encyclopedia dedicated to fruits/etc (there is an encyclopedia for each category).
The encyclopedia can be placed in a museum or placed in a library for zoi’s to read or even buy in a store (expensive). Reading it offers a short buff that makes leveling gardening a little faster, expands your gardening range a little more, and makes a zoi garden a little more faster. Depending on which encyclopedia you read, talking to a plant speeds up its growth a bit. If you read all 3 books, you could essential bloom an entire garden in 2 days by just talking to them I suppose. But spamming conversation without pampering them with fertilizers and water means the quality might not be the best.
It makes all the effort worth it in the end, but not mandatory.
How farm animals could be integrated in a way to enhance the base game
- Farming crops - Animals could produce free fertilizers
- Cleaning up after animals allows Zoi’s to collect fertilizer
- The healthier the animal the high quality of fertilizer
- Can turn off sickness and aging
- Cooking - Animals can produce ingredients
- Feed them well, weigh them and “exchange” for produce
- Animals can only be traded if healthy
- If you try to trade one who is unhealthy, you will get in trouble (*see not properly cared for below)
- Eggs can be collected from healthy chickens
- Sewing - Animals could provide materials
- Wool and cashmere processed into thread for selling or sewing
While I think sewing should be expanded on, I would not add it here, I’d expand sewing with either the clothing store or a fashion designer career update or something.
What new things could farm animals bring to the game:
Different ways to approach farming.
- The Casual farmer - you just want cute animals with none of the work
- The Raising farmer - You pair animals to get different kinds
- The Commercial farmer - You want to collect and sell produce
- The Nurturer - You want nothing from animals and only wish to give them the best life
The Casual farmer
There is no business, aging is off, illness is off, you toss food in a bowl once a week and interact with the animals at your leisure.
Reward: You get to look at cute animals and the occasional free eggs and milk if you care to be bothered
The Raising farmer
There are different variety of animals and you would like to log them all. You pair them together and strive to document each new one you discover until you unlock them all.
Or perhaps that sun kissed mane found on a certain horse touched your heart and you set out to get your hands on your favorite horse, so you pair, and pair until finally you get your favorite horse.
Role: would spend a lot of time helping with babies or being at vets to ensure a safe delivery. Happy and healthy animals can be paired, so caring for them is important.
You may even want to showcase your well cared for animals in events/contest. Happy, healthy, well groomed and well trained animals can win awards, climb the ranks to stardom, and make you proud. You can do it with any animal, chicken/rooster, cows/bulls, sheep/ram, Sow/Boar, Mare/Stallion.
You could even assign a few favorites among them.
Reward: If you unlock all of the animal variances, you become a raising expert, can train others, and your log book can be transcribed into an encyclopedia.
A zoi must be a certain level to understand the encyclopedia. Once they read it, you can pick what you want to be born instead of following the required gene rules when pairing (if the zoi who read the book passes away, the household loses that ability and would need to get someone else to read the book).
Each animal has its own categories and grants its own trophy. You can take a picture to immortalize the moment
The Commercial farmer
You are in it for the business, where there is a demand you answer the call to supply. You might prefer to hire worker hands to help you out to maximize your profits.
You feed animals to reach goal weights and trade them for produce. The happier, healthier and better fed they are, the better quality of your produce you can get. Better quality produce means more business and more business means more money. Sell your produce in your own shop or make exquisite dishes featuring only the finest quality of ingredients.
This play style can tie in with:
- Cooking system
- Poor quality ingredients affecting meals, vs excellent quality ingredients
- Maybe gourmet meals can only be made with exquisite ingredients
- Events like:
- Animal illness spreading and needing vet care
- Fluctuating stock prices either raising or lowering the cost of produce
- Losing customers to the large super market having some random sale for 72 hours
- Competitor moves in (players can set how hard and competitive or friendly they are)
- Friendly: helps each other out, shares gifts, etc
- Competitive: Tries to match prices from time to time, good clean competition
- Hard mode:
- Spreads bad gossip against you
- Causes trouble for your farm if you don’t set up the right security systems
- Always filing a complaint with the bureau to spring random inspections on you
- Always trying to undercut your prices If you sell too high
- Always visiting your farm to bother you and start something
- The super market has more random sales
- Weather and seasons affect your sales
- The cost of shipping and buying could attach to the stock market and fluctuate
- Feel free to us the base game loan system where you can owe them a favor for helping you settle the score every once in a while
If they ever expand on the stock market, they should allow players to place any shop they run on the stock market, get investors and stuff. But that is for another post.
Reward: Unlock advanced processing equipment like aging, curing, refining. Gain trusted supplier status, a boost in reputation among the locals. Once you secure all 4 contracts:
- Restaurant supply contracts
- Grocery chain contracts
- Hotel supply agreements
- Event catering contracts
You are awarded the business tycoon ability. The game has a stock market that randomly allows you it invest and randomly lose/gain income. This ability allows you to place your farm on the stock market, As long as the farm remains profitable and well managed, it will continue generating income. Your company can now run itself, from time to time you will receive events cards, the manager may need some repairs, your animals might need a vet visit, your rival may be causing trouble. You can choose to live the easy life and manage things leisurely from home, or go into the office and run everything, the choice is yours. You can own up to 3 stocks in total. But be warned, you will get more event cards.
The Nurturer
You are not interested in what animals can do for you, but what you can do for animals.
Role:
- Placing ads for zoi’s to relinquish their animals to you for any reason (no judgements)
- You care for them and inquire with other Zoi’s to adopt one
- You hold charity events to raise funding
- You may be a small solo company or family owned
- You may be a large company filled with many volunteers who help care for animals
- A good reputation encourages and improves donations
Reward: The joy of doing good. If you help place 50 animals you are honored with an award. I’d like it to be a statue of your zoi that can be placed in a museum, but not sure its possible, so a small animal foundation trophy that players can write a name and what the zoi accomplished is fine too.
I know the game has traits like idealist, charity, etc, playing this way with animals should support those desires, the charities held for the animals should count.
What happens if your animals are not properly cared for:
If you don’t maintain the cleanliness, health and happiness of the animals, there are consequences that make use of the base game justice and reputation system such as:
Stage 1: Complaints
- You are reported for poor conditions
- Get warning from authorities
- Incur a Small fine
- Reputation decreases a little
Stage 2: Investigation
- Inspector visits
- Player receives objectives such as:
- Clean stalls/animals
- Feed animals
- Provide medical treatment
Technically just fix whatever you have did not do
Stage 3: Failure to comply within 24/48 hours results in:
- Animals removed from the property
- Animal license suspended
- Guidance given to you from the justice
- Reputation plummets
Stage 4: Justice
- You are admitted
- Your time is based on severity
- did you pay the fine
- did you fulfill some of the inspector objectives
- Your new record affects your reputation with other zoi’s
- Zoi’s hearing what you did on the news and being disappointed in you
- Animal lovers being mad at you
- You can’t adopt anymore animals, not even a cat
Stage 5: Redemption
- Serve your time
- Pay any incurred fees
- Attend a few mandatory training classes
- Reapply to reinstate your animal license
- A second time could result in a long-term suspension, substantial fines, and significantly stricter inspections
- Or offenders may face permanent license revocation, though an expensive legal appeal process could allow reinstatement
This creates a story where players can choose to casually own farm animals because they enjoy them as pets, or pursue a more involved farming lifestyle with rewards for responsible animal care.
It also provides another way for players to interact with the game’s reputation and legal systems. Some players may intentionally take risks, while others may simply expand too quickly and struggle to keep up with the workload.
