How do your Zois feel to you after the update? [0.10.1]

I’m curious how everyone else is experiencing their Zois after the latest update, especially compared to how they behaved before.

I’ve been playing many of my current Zois for a long time. most of them are characters I played before the update, and others are children of Zois I have known and played for a long time. Because of that, I feel like I know their personalities and usual behavior quite well.

Since the update, however, I’ve started to feel like I don’t really recognize all of my Zois anymore. When I switch between households, they often feel surprisingly similar to each other.

Everyone is constantly reading books or lying on the couch with their smartphone. They keep talking about furniture they want to buy (couples).

Seeing my mean genius lying on the couch with his phone feels completely wrong, just like the situation in the park where he suddenly plays the guitar. He doesn’t even actually own a guitar, and now he suddenly pulls one out of his pocket and starts playing.

And they seem to care much less about their babies and toddlers. They play with them much less, give them fewer little kisses, or do things like that.

I also don’t really see much difference between couples and household members who are just good friends. I have two brothers, both with wives, and both have two children, and you can’t tell at all who is married to whom or which children belong to which couple.

I have six households with very different Zois, and when I switch between them, I barely notice any differences. They all somehow feel the same now.

Because of that, I can’t really get into the game anymore. I only take care of the things that are necessary, but I don’t enjoy watching them anymore or following them around and seeing what they do.

At first I didn’t notice this as much because I was starting a new save and one household had two brothers dealing with the death of their third brother. The grief behavior was so strong that it gave the household a very distinct feeling. Now that I’ve started visiting my other households, I’m noticing the difference much more.

So I’d like to know how other players perceive their Zois now:

How do your Zois feel to you compared to before the update?

Do they still feel like the individual characters you knew before, or do you also feel that their behavior has become more similar and less connected to their personalities?

That’s how it comes.

I second this. @Sephrenia already knows my two cents about it, since we discussed it here:

After playing for roughly 3h in the previous game version, I can say that my Zoi interacts more with the toddler (kissing cheeks, singing, changing diapers, etc.). The toddler also approached the adult more.

The adult Zoi got out of bed because the baby fell while trying to stand against the sofa and cried. He soothed the toddler. In the new version, my Zoi just kept sitting, using his computer, not moving towards the baby at all when it cried. The adult Zoi straight up ignored it. Now, using the previous version, my Zoi actually got worried.

My Zoi also doesn’t constantly lie down on the couch with the Smartphone anymore or checks his looks compared to the new version [0.10.1]. My Zoi did that almost constantly there.

They also seem to act more according to their wishes/urges, which also seem to be way more than in the new version. Per example, the toddler had the wish to play with the “Sound Book” and actually acted on it, playing with it. Or it had the wish to ask for a hug and did that as well.

In the new version, when the adult Zoi tried to teach the toddler to walk, there wasn’t any milestone for it, while in the previous version, it instantly gave me a milestone the first time he used the interaction:

For the adult Zoi, it appeared as a memory:

On the other hand, the toddler Zoi crawls outside of the house way more often in the old version compared to the new one. Also, the toddler sometimes tends to just sit and smile, but that might be related to the good natured trait. This also leads me to the point, that my toddler suddenly has 2 traits and the Characteristic “Perfectionist” now. I don’t know if it appeared because of the version switch (I didn’t play a toddler before), but before, my toddler only had the “Good-Natured” trait. I’ll attach a screenshot of the old version’s profile of the toddler. This might also influence the behavior now?

My adult Zoi has the bookworm trait and it feels like he actually reads more. In the new version, he often just sat at the computer and played video games.

As a note: I did not set up any preferences yet in both versions to see how they act “naturally” without me setting them up for now.

There are really things happening now that weren’t happening before. I’ve noticed that they’re not taking care of themselves as well anymore. I switch to a different household, and they have their sleep need in the red during the day. And as soon as a need gets low, they start getting stuck in a loop whenever they’re supposed to perform a social action.
For hours now, they haven’t paid any attention to either their baby or their toddler. I can’t play a family like this.

This update is really starting to wear me out.

@Sephrenia after I played the older Version, I can 100% agree on this. I only played with two Zois (An adult and the toddler), but in a bigger household it makes it a disaster to keep up with all the needs if the Zois just ignore them. Hasn’t it been announced that this was supposed to be improved? So much for that…

Are you using smart zoi? I decided to turn it on to test something and the autonomy and interactions are exactly like what the update promised(except for sleeping I had to delete the guest beds and might have to delete sofas). When smart zoi was on my zois were a lot better at addressing needs (even though they are still depleting quickly, they make sure to fill their needs completely). They also spent more time together as a family, even having group conversations.

I think the problem might be the devs optimized autonomy with smart zoi on. I don’t play with smart zoi because it lags and crashes my game, a lot of other players have it off for the same reason. Smart zoi being enabled may also contribute to other issues/bugs people were having , but I haven’t tested it yet.

I just noticed that after the update, characters remember actions and then repeat them on their own. The same goes for communication — whoever I directed her to talk to, she then communicates with them on her own. My zoi was also upset with a guy and refused to sit at the same table with him under any circumstances. She sits peacefully without him, but doesn’t want to sit with him :joy: After they made up and talked, they sat normally and ate at the same table together. I don’t know if it’s a bug or if it’s supposed to be like this, but it cracked me up. Anyway, I’m thrilled with the improvements to the lighting, shadows, and graphics. My zois look even better. That’s all I’ve noticed so far.

I have to agree with @MoonSonne that visually the game and especially the Zois look much better in-game than before.

I also see the bug with throwing away everything like @Mazikeen has mentioned. This is a really annoying new behavior. It was happening earlier as well but not at that level.

@Sephrenia @Minthyuyu I have not noticed this strange autonomous behavior yet but will pay attention to it when I am back at one of my families with babies / toddlers. I started some new single Zoi households in my save in order to test out the new features a bit more before playing the bigger families again. And with single Zoi you of course tend to control them more, thus this is maybe not so obvious.

Apart from that I have noticed:

  • Glitches with the voices, they are partly simply missing in conversations.
  • We have quite some issues with some of the events - the prescripted sequences are not working properly. While this is not a big deal for the social events, it is quite a big deal for the job interviews which prevents the Zoi from even getting a job.
  • We have strange and unlogical behavior if you have a non-household Zoi joining you on vacation. All the booked events during vacation are only scheduled for your Zoi and not the Zoi who is there with you. Romantic dinner at the beach alone totally makes sense, let your partner sit in the hotel room
  • Also when you come back from vacation your Zois funds are back to the amount with which they left, this should not be the case.
  • The houses are getting dirty crazy fast, it was promised to be the opposite - every 2-3 days. But it is rather every 3-4 hours.
  • The new video gaming skill has no real purpose at the moment. It was probably added for some later gameplay but currently it is an empty skill.
  • The newly added picture frames are too limited as they work only for portrait style pictures and they are also victims of the new Zoi behavior to throw everything in trash.
  • Zois now tend to often get stuck in conversations. Meaning that they just stand still and are unable to proceed with the next conversation in their chain. You have to click it away and then they are able to continue again.
  • The new appreciation activity after every action the Zoi has in his / her preferences is really, really annoying. I really don’t understand why this was implemented. Now cleaning takes ages if your Zoi likes to do this as they appreciate after every part of the 5x cleaning activity. Even worse with food they like as they appreciate 7-8 times while eating one plate and then at the end one more extra appreciation round.
  • I am not sure I really like the new feature that you are not able to normally talk to the shop owner during the operating hours to develop a relationship, but it works. It is really only possible to order or complain but not to have normal conversation with them.
  • The new diving and surfing activity is nice.
  • Zois relationships are developing a little slower which is good.
  • The bug where cleaning did not raise the skill is finally fixed.
  • Zois are finally able to drive their cars by default.
  • And we are finally able to prevent mass baby production for not actively played households.

This was actually one of the things that shocked me the most with the toddler gameplay compared to the previous version. I honestly did not really test a solo Zoi much, but as I mentioned also in my post above, they mostly sat on the couch with their smartphone when they were at home ore at the computer.

For some reason, in the new version there is also no milestone anymore for first baby steps compared to the previous version:

All in all, this might need more testing and longer gameplay, I agree. It was sort of the “first shock” that the Zois feel very different from before to me.

So right now I’m really only focusing on my own game. I’m back with my criminal and his girlfriend. The others we took with us are now living in their own household.

I can already see some big differences between these two. I’ve played him for quite a while and did a lot with him, or didn’t do much with him when he was in jail again. She was an NPC who lived in the city and also went to high school. Both of them feel much less robotic and more complex right away. They have memories, preferences, and a lot of skills they’ve developed.

She’s currently pregnant. Everything happened naturally in the game, without cheats. So we’ll see if that makes a difference.

I’ve noticed that babies and toddlers rarely need any care because, in my opinion, their needs decrease way too slowly. And I think I’ve also figured out why the needs in general seem so messed up right now.

My couple went on a date at the night market and came home with all their needs completely filled. So of course they’re tired at noon the next day. That shouldn’t happen. If this is happening autonomously for everyone, things are going to stop working properly pretty quickly. The same thing already happened on their first date. That’s where I’m at right now.

For me, Smart Zoi only works properly on the High setting. On Ultra, my game crashes if I try to do something like teleport. And I don’t think it has been fixed properly yet. It changes something in the settings that you can’t undo. My screen was even flickering in the settings menu until I deleted all the settings files again.

But honestly, I don’t feel like dealing with this any further right now. There’s just too much going wrong at the moment.

I have noticed that some events fill up needs rapidly, but usually when that happens the needs will deplete just as quickly. When I make a zoi go to sleep they will not need to sleep again until night, but if the zoi does it autonomously they won’t sleep until it’s been red for a while and will wake up with the gauge still in yellow.

I find that all of my zois are more self-interested. They are spending more time alone doing what they feel like. Families have become housemates. It works in the business parts of the game, as zois are participating more in running their businesses. But when they get home, they’re not talking; they eat alone; they’re on their phones…

I’m using normal autonomy rather than SmartZoi and it seems to be working well for the most part. I haven’t had problems with Zois not fulfilling needs - admittedly I tend to monitor their needs fairly carefully anyway, but they seem to go to bed when they’re tired, etc. (and also the bug where you can’t go to bed until 10pm has finally been fixed). I’ve noticed them do appropriate context-dependent actions in public locations, like admiring the fountain landmark during a festival. They also interact autonomously with other Zois including family members, though it does appear to be rarer than it was before the patch - again, it’s hard for me to judge this as I tend to direct the conversation interactions myself.

I’ve never seen anything like this before. I just switched to this household and found my Zoi sleeping on a bench in a public square. I swear I take good care of him, he has a house and a bed…

I probably just don’t notice all these moments because basically I’m playing one character and she’s changed for the better. But the only thing I really noticed is that my second character, a guy, only had one relationship with my zoi, but suddenly in his relationships there appeared another love interest and that really threw me off, but honestly I wasn’t really following him closely, but the scenario violates this storyline:joy:. Everything went not according to my plan. I’ll try to ruin the relationship, check if another love interest appears. I need to check all my characters, because what if they suddenly have wives, husbands, kids, and I’m not aware of it.

@Sephrenia I saw one of my Zois sleeping on a bench at their workplace early in the morning. I found it a little funny - kind of did not get enough sleep over night, so getting some rest before the work day starts. But this could be similar to what you are experiencing.

By the way it is so nice seeing my Zois in your game :yellow_heart:

@MoonSonne on the romantic relationships: this seems also a bit different to me vs. prior the update. My Zois seem to get into much more romantic relationships by themselves. Even if they already have a partner. I even noticed that the girlfriend of one of my Zois was kissing another Zoi in the night club on Friday night. And somehow my Zoi did not even seem to be bothered by that, but ok…

Hope you’re not mad! Only changed his hair color and style. He looks just like my neighbor when he was younger now (who is pretty attractive). Plus, he got a wife from you, so his kids are going to be gorgeous!

@Sephrenia No, I really enjoy seeing that :yellow_heart: And I saw his wife as well  They have selected different partners in my game so very interesting to see them both together :slightly_smiling_face:

She ended up with an IT Nerd guy in my game:
