A Multiplayer Mode That Respects Solo Players

Inzoi – Multiplayer Mode Proposal

Overview

I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting multiplayer in inZOI but I understand the concerns of people who are weary of multiplayer modes, particularly in the simulation genre. Because of that, I’ve thought carefully about the systems that could allow for a rich multiplayer experience that does not interfere with the single player game experience and at the same time avoids the negative impact of some multiplayer modes.

This multiplayer mode would allow players to connect with friends, visit parallel universes, and collaborate in a shared but carefully balanced gameplay experience in a smaller but fun scale. The system emphasizes player choice, ensuring that multiplayer enhances the game without interfering with the single-player foundation by focusing on a more local, restricted co-op style rather than massive online multiplayer.

Friendship System

  • Add a “Friend” buttom in the Homescreen from which players can manage their friends and invites. Throught this category we would be able to add and remove others from our friend list, block users and generate invite codes (both to befriend others and to allow others to visit your city/save).

  • Friends online status would be displayed in real time (with a light indicator next to their username). One can choose to appear as “invisible” if they don’t wish to reveal whether they are online or not.

:pencil: Side Note: No annoying pop ups! In order to know if a friend is online, you have to specifically go to the frieds list in your main menu. You will not get pop ups when you friends get online, or alternative if that is something you like, there could be a toggle in the options menu.

Access and invitations

  • In my proposal, Multiplayer would work similarly to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, where players can “open” their cities so others can visit as long as they have been provided with the city’s code.

  • Players may generate access codes to allow others into their world, and kick players out anytime due to misbehaviour or simply the need to do so.

  • Full single-player functionality remains available for those who prefer not to engage in multiplayer, making it optional.

  • Up to 10 invited players can join a world at the same time.

Travel System

Quantum Travel Agency

In inZOI cities are set to exist in parallel universe, so we thought it was approapriate to call the travel agency between universe Quantum Travel. The logo we thought of would be a cat intertwined with the symbol of an atom (examples are provided below).

The Quantum Travel building would be placed next to the AR Library, since the AR Library’s second floor has a connection with the “outside world” in the lore of inZOI.

  • The Quantum Travel agency could be a rabbit hole building that you interact with by clicking on the outside of the building or a fleshed out building where you interact with an object inside to prompt a menu.

  • In this menu you will have the options to:

    • Open “Interlink”, this is a link between universes. When you open it, it opens your world to visitors.

    • Travel to another universe. This will prompt another menu where you can choose between entering a code, or visiting your friends’ worlds if your friends have opened their “Interlink”.

When traveling, a loading screen pops up. In this loading screen, you can see two AR workers, the girl from the promos and somebody else, holding their tablets from opposite sides of the screen. There is a loop animations of two cats jumping between the tablets.

When traveling the guest zoi spawns outside the Quantum Travel Agency of the visited world. Where the host can go and pick them up to hang out.

Quantum Accommodation Facility

A new building would appear in which guest zois can stay and fulfill their needs (eating, sleeping, going to the toilet) although nothing prevents them from staying at the host’s house. This accomodation facility can be decorated and furnished by the host.

Gameplay Permissions for guests

  • Visitors retain access to normal in-game actions such as exploration, interaction, and social features, but lose the option to enter build mode or manage city/families.

  • Hosts can transport visitors as passengers in boats, motorcycles, or cars, allowing for collaborative exploration.

  • Visitors and hosts can trade or gift collectibles and other in-game items. Sharing encourages collaboration, collection building, and social bonding.

  • Hosts can host events like weddings, concerts, pool parties in which the guest zois can join.

I would love this kind of multiplayer! I hope we can get something like this at some point. Would love to be able to host concerts, or attend concerts in other peoples games, and just show people around my city, or invite real life friends to a pool party!
