Zois take a detour when told to enter a lot

There seems to be only one entrance point where Zois can enter a lot, and when I want the lot entry somwhere else, the game does not recognize these changes.

For Example Aram Estate Property in Dowon.
Saiwa is standing right in front of the gate, but when I tell him to go to the yard, he runs to the corner, takes an u-turn and runs back to the entry -.-

Yup, those corner- entrance lots are really annoying. In an attempt to keep Zois moving smoothly I’ve built some houses with a 45-degree angled entrance so they don’t have to run all over the place.

It’s not really a bug per se, it’s working as designed, but the implementation is not very good.

I wish we had a big green arrow we could place in Build Mode and the game would accept that as the recommended entry point for the lot. Of course, the big green arrow would only be visible in Build Mode, not in the game.

For one house I stuck an “elevator” right at the corner and then another deep inside the house. Zois used it just fine. They’re not really elevators, think of them as portals and you can do some cool stuff with them. Stick one in a pool!

Oh that elevator to portal is an awesome idea! Imagine when we have basements so we can make kind of secret doors to anywhere!

I hadn’t notice because I use WASD while playing, but I tried to reproduce the issue at the same lot and it is indeed happening. As @Klinn metioned, I suspect it’s more of an intended feature, and that marking a certain side of the lot as the entrance serves some purpose in the simulation that we don’t understand, but it wouldn’t hurt if they changed it so that we could enter directly from all places.

I place a building at Aram State to test the issue and made a short video, in case it can be useful for the developing team. The first part of the video shows the zoi entering the house from one side, and in the last part I rotated the house so that the zoi tries to enter for the other side, the one that the game has designated as the “entrance” point.

I apologize for the quality but I took it lazily with screenshot tool and then had to downsize it to be able to upload into the forums. My zoi is the guy in the bright blue tank top.

I noticed this as well so I lock all gates except the one i want them to use. I do think they should fix it so the shortest route from where they are is the chosen one

It’s not only Aram Estate in Dowon, I experience this on all of the lots we live so far.
This is Air Asri House at Cahaya, for example.

it’s not that Zois don’t follow the shortest route, they do, but it’s the shortest route to specific point the developers have decided is the only valid entry point to a building lot.

At the very least, we need a way for players to define that entry point. In the Sims you placed the mailbox somewhere along the front of a lot and that’s where Sims would travel to, then continue on inside the house. So typically players would place the mailbox at the walkway leading up the house. It all worked out reasonably smoothly.

Rather than copy the Sims, I suggest adding an “Entry Point” object to Build Mode. A big glowing green arrow for example which the player can place at the location along the front of the lot where they wish Zois to travel to when arriving at or departing from the lot. The green arrow would only be visible in Build Mode, not while playing.

Thanks for reading and keep up the good work.

It’s the same with Non-player lots

Hoooray! :tada:

I really hope they fix it soon. And glad to hear that they are working on it.

I did notice this already at several lots like the graveyard in Bliss Bay, the Beachvolleyball beach etc. But currently I am playing in the Kreanga Route house in Cahaya and it is really annoying. Everytime the Zoi wants to go somewhere from their property or go back home they take a huge detour for no meaningful reason.

From standing next to the house with a clear exit right next to them and told to move to the place where the X is…

Instead of taking the route marked above they always chose to go this way and same when going back home:

Oh my. . .
I wonder what they’d do if you close the fence? Pretending there is no exit?

Before I learned about this, I once tried for hours to make a house (I’ve built right at the border of the lot) accessable, but the Zois refused to enter even if they stood next to the door because I closed that entry point with a wall. This must be so frustrating for new players.

I closed it and yes it helps a little bit as the detour is smaller:

Anyway I hope they fix it properly. I would expect a Zoi to take the nearest exit / entry if there are 3 of them. Normally this would actually be the nice part of such a lot where you can meaningfully exit in different directions depending on where you are going to.

UPDATE:
But it only works if they are coming home from the beach direction. Next morning the Zoi should leave to go into the town and…. took this route….

Hello everyone (@here),
This issue was fixed in v0.5.0.

  • Fixed an issue where using “Move Here” to travel to the Dowon Aram Real Estate lot did not take the shortest route.

Please create a new thread if you’re still experiencing this issues after the latest updates.
