Please Unify Texture Categories (Allow Using Any Texture on Any Surface)

Currently, textures are strictly separated into categories like ‘Wall’, ‘Floor’, and ‘Ceiling’. This prevents us from using a texture we like from the ‘Wall’ category on a ‘Floor’, or a ‘Floor’ texture on a ‘Ceiling’.

For example, I used a mosaic tile texture on the pool walls, but the exact same tile was not available in the ‘Floor’ category for the pool floor. This same inconvenience occurs when I want to use the same marble tile on the bathroom floor that I’ve already applied to the bathroom walls.

As a workaround for this, I often have to use the AI feature to create a matching texture, but the quality of the AI-generated textures is often inconsistent and disappointing.

It would be very helpful if this restriction was removed, allowing us to use any texture on any surface.

This change would give all players much more creative freedom and allow for more unique and personalized designs. Thank you for considering this.

I agree in part.
Sometimes I want to use material textures that are not available, and that ends up being quite frustrating.
At the same time, there are material textures available that don’t seem to make any sense when applied to that item or part of an item.
I think it would be interesting to expand the diversity of materials that make sense for each item or part of an item.
In my opinion, it could be something like this (all items in the groups could use all the materials listed):

  • Electronics, appliances: metal, painted metal, plastic;
  • Furniture (tables, chairs, beds, cabinets…): wood, plastic, metal, painted metal;
  • Upholstery (sofa, armchair, chair seats…): fabric, leather, wallpaper (since they resemble fabric textures).
    In other words, on all items it would be possible to apply all materials/textures that are normally applicable in real life.

So much yes! I can’t understand why there are any restrictions at all, to be honest.

Initially, the material textures in construction mode were quite limited… After updates, the range of available materials has become broader. However, I still think this system could improve.

Additionally, some items have textures that differ from most others (such as stair parts and foundation elements). I think this should be unified—for example, all wood textures should be grouped together, and there shouldn’t be differences in ceramic textures for floors and walls.
In other words, for all items, it should be possible to apply all material textures that are typically used in real life.

Please unlock all materials for anything.
It’s our choice to make if we want a wooden car and we’ll have to live with those decisions.
For example, there are only four materials available for the side of platforms.
But I want to cover them in tiles or wood planks.

Right I agree 10000%. The platform sides are the most frustrating part for me too.

Like you said, there are practically zero options to choose from, and it’s impossible to match the side texture to the texture you used on the top surface.

I’m always forced to fall back on using an AI texture just for that one spot.

Honestly, for this reason (and also because of the awkward fit of the stairs), I’ve opted not to use the foundation/platform tool. I’ve raised the floor inside each room so that the exterior wall remains uniform. It’s the best solution I’ve found to achieve a good exterior aesthetic for houses.
