I have been playing the halloween event non stop all afternoon, like the absolutely normal person I am, and this is what I have found:
Only one child per basket will come every night between 5-9pm. If you place one basket, one child will visit you. If you play three, then three children will come. Be mindful! They will come even if there’s heavy rain or a storm haha.
If you place more than one basket, children will come at different hours between 5-9pm instead of all at once. This makes it easier to attend all the children and give them candies.
You can give one child candy several times until the basket is empty. You can refill the basket while the child is there and keep giving them teethrot, I mean candy :D.
Everytime you give candy to a child, they will give you 3 pieces of new halloween furniture. There’s plenty of them! I have been at it all afternoon and I don’t think I have everything yet.
Only one zoi per household seems to be able to give candy to the children (whatever zoi you were playing when the event pop up showed up). The rest of the zois in the house can interact with the children like they would with any other children in the world, but no candy interactions will be available for them.
After the event is over, empty the baskets and fill them up again. From my experience at least in my game if you don’t do this, the children won’t show up the next day.
You can buy the special flavoured candy through your zoi’s smartphone via pocket market. They’re cheap and some of them are on discount.
SIDENOTE: Me and other players have experienced issues where the children never come. At first I thought it was because the save was previous to the Update, but it seems that older saves are working well for some people. If you are encountering issues with the event let me know in the comments and maybe we’ll figure it out!
I hadn’t thought of checking that out, so thanks for the idea. It seems that the earned rewards are only for the family that earned them. Other families from the same safe do not have them available, neither do families from a different save.
It’s a bit of a bummer! I think we should make a wishlist for them to make these objects available for every family and for every save at least with a cheat, then take it to Discord for Kjun to see
…okay that’s absurd. It’s like the devs have no idea that people might want to play more than 1 family per save or even, heaven forbid, multiple saves. I don’t care all that much about Halloween decor tbh, but some of those items (candles etc.) would be great for an old-fashioned style house. Let’s hope they’ll eventually get unlocked for everyone - I may ask over on the Discord if someone hasn’t already.
Ahh I see you’re playing in City Nest apartments. According to the updated known issues list, this should work on all lots except for City Nest and Heaven Hill.

Absolutely. Once you’ve unlocked them, they’ll remain available for all your new files and even the ones you’ve been playing before the October update.
Funnily enough in the old save where it didn’t work, my zois were living in Beachfront, 8. But since it didn’t work for me and for a couple of other people in the forums, I thought old saves might be the case. I guess it’s not! Thanks a lot for sharing, I will update my post .
OK, I just unlocked a bunch of items in a fresh save, and none of them are showing up in any of my earlier saves. I also started a new game to test it out, and they’re not showing up there either. Going to report it as a bug
Hello! Just putting my words here from another discussion since I saw this was being discussed here, too.
The event wasn’t working for me for a few in-game days, but it did eventually. I have no idea if any of these conditions are actually the reason it finally worked, but these were the conditions when the Trick-or-Treating event finally activated:
All the adults (a couple) in the household were home together for at least an hour (kids showed up around 6 PM)
It was 3 or 4 days into autumn when it finally worked
I moved the candy buckets from the space directly by the front door to the front of the lawn (near the sidewalk)
No idea if this was just a coincidence and it just needed a few days to kick in, though! I just know that the event didn’t activate when any of my adult Zoi were away from the house during the 5 PM - 9 PM time slot.
And, yes, this was in an old save! A new save is definitely not required
Thank you for the research! I will update with this information, it might help somebody! The part about two adults being at home at least for one hour might be key, since I think that’s what failed in my previous save?

** Thanks to @LazyTaco for testing this out! If you are having problems and the treat-or-treating kids are not showing up to your zoi’s house, these MIGHT be conditions that help the kids to appear:
Being at least 3-4 days into autumn.
All the adults have stayed at home for over an hour before the trick-or-treating starts.
Yeah, it’s actually pretty easy to unlock all the items in 1-2 days if you stock up on candy beforehand But the unlocks really should carry across saves.
I also noticed that sometimes the kids won’t leave after you ‘send them off’, and will come into your house and do random stuff. You can still get them to leave with “Ask to leave the house”, but that doesn’t always work either (same as with other Zois), so it may take 2-3 tries. And I saw someone else say that if you pretend not to be at home, they’ll come in the house anyway.
