Make burglary less quick and more realistic, please

Make burglary less quicky and more realistic, please

Hi there Kjun! I recently saw a video of a burglary some other player had at home, and I wanted to saw I feel like burglaries should be more of a dangerous, high-stress event for zois living in the house, and not a quirky one-time interaction where the burglar enters, fights the zoi and then immediately just behaves like they are visiting, all while the wife drinks cocktails like nothing out of the ordinary is even happening.

Since you said you were working on crime and police work, hopefully this feedback will help shape how crime works in the future in game. I don’t know what is the general sentiment but for me, seeing this was disappointing and I hope to see it improved! This is how I think it could be improved:

  1. When a burglar enters, all zois that are awake should freak out or be alert. They should at least react to the burglar in some manner, not just keep going on about their night like before. Currently, only the zoi that is directly targeted by the burglar for a fight has any reaction at all from what I’ve seen. I think zois should react to the event according to their personalities: either they want to fight the burglar, or they are terrified and hide away, beg the burglar to not hurt them, or simply freeze and then be stressed out for a couple of days.

I think @itsmechiie7 ideas on adding an conflict management system for zois that changes how every zoi reacts to a particular situation would be a great way to handle this. For example, not every zoi should have the option to fight the burglar available, it should depend on their personality and conflict management style. In real life, not many people would even think of fighting a burglar as a possibility.

  2. Burglars shouldn’t walk in through the main door. They should have to make an effort to break into someone’s house. Breaking a window or lock picking the door should be the way the try to get in. This would also give time to zois inside who notice to hide away and call the police.

  3. Burglars should go around the house stealing what’s valuable, be it money or jewels, expensive objects, phones. They should try to stay unnoticed first, instead of directly going to a zoi in the house to fight them off.

  4. After stealing/fighting a zoi, burglars should run away. I’ve seen burglars just sit there at the house afterwards, just doing normal stuff, as if they were just your friendly neighbour. Please burglars should immediately run from the house.

I saw a video about this on Reddit and people were saying that it’s impossible to win a fight with the burglar even with high Fitness, and that calling the police didn’t do anything. Clearly this needs a lot more work - I’m all in favour of having thieves and burglars in the game, but having to watch someone just walk in and steal your stuff without being able to do anything about it is not fun.

i’d like it so if the burglar was successful in stealing and gets away, they have a chance to drop a clue that you could investigate for yourself and maybe eventually find them and get your stuff back. could go nice with a police or detective career too

Also please add a NOBurglar cheat.

I don’t want burglars in my play.

Me neither, this really triggers me since we’ve had this happen IRL and it is absloutely terrifying to have to watch someone break in and not being able to do something because you’re scared to death.
Please have respect and give us options to turn off such encounters.

Oh my goodness! That must have been really scary!

It’s not clear exactly what triggers burglaries, but in theory I guess ‘City Stability’ should affect it? Try setting this all the way up to max.

Suggest this outright as it’s own suggestion !

World of Warcraft has the ability to turn off “spiders” for those who suffer from arachnophobia.

This rando thought popped into my mind bc the thought of witnessing an actual burglary in my own home is absolutely awful and would be traumatic enough that I would ABSOLUTELY “turn off burglars” in a game. :psycat_upset:

So if spiders can be erased from a complex game as World of Warcraft, hopefully burglars can be erased from inZOI, too! :custom_idea:

Yes this! Alongside if the cops do come I would love an animation of the robber getting arrested and being put into the back of a police car

I got the event last night, right after I started playing, so luckily I could reload. It’s very annoying that the event only targets your active Zoi and no one else in the household can interact with the burglar in any way. Calling the police did work (eventually), and they arrested the burglar - there was a brief arrest animation but after that he just disappeared. Afterwards I got a message saying that you can use security cameras or a safe to deter burglars (would have been nice to know this beforehand…), so maybe try putting these around your home?

It may also help if you can catch the burglar picking the door lock before they break into the house. Mine never actually got into the house, though he did somehow steal 2,000 Mew from my Zoi after she fought him unsuccessfully.

Yes. The dynamics

“more realistic”

and

“more in-depth”

should be applied to content of this kind. I don’t think there’s a need for realism equal to real life (and it would be impossible to apply anyway), but for these things there definitely needs to be an extra touch, so that the game can take an interesting development direction. I accept, for now, the drafts of the general project, but I hope they will be refined much better in the future. Thank you :folded_hands:

Yes! I feel like the game could benefit from some cutescenes for certain events. Getting arrested and dragged to jail should be one of those events!

I was thrilled to finally experience the burglar event in my game! Unfortunately, it was completely ruined by things that ruptured my immersion and made the event a ridiculous and unrealistic experience. It was ultimately a massive disappointment for my first experience with this brand new event that has so much potential for fun drama.

These are the reasons why my first burglary was just ridiculous, disappointing, and immersion destroying.

  1. The husband was awake and cleaning up around the home. The wife was sleeping. The husband is technically the head of the family as the first zoi created in the family. ONLY THE WIFE got the burglar event!!! Why? Why is this event not a household-wide event???
  2. The husband was outside, taking trash to the outdoor trashcan. The burglar tiptoed across the yard as the husband zoi was incapable of interacting with the burglar at all! To him, the woman tiptoeing next to him toward the front door just wasn’t there. I would’ve had the husband defend his family, but instead, he was completely oblivious to anything happening right in front of him.
  3. The burglar went inside the house to pick the lock from the inside. The door has absolutely no indication of a “right way” to place it, nor should there even be a right or wrong way to place a door that opens both inward and outward! The only door in the game that has a clearly obvious orientation is the one with a keypad lock, unless I’m forgetting another.

This happened during my Let’s Play video here: https://youtu.be/uMyfz0hj9Fw I was so let down. To me, the whole thing was stupid, and I’d been looking forward to experiencing it. I thought it would be a wonderful thing to experience for the first time with viewers of my series. I’m not surprised I got a comment saying, “That burglar was so dumb.”

To me, the whole event turned out that way, despite my reluctance to be negative about this game. The team works hard and does good work, and this event can easily be improved by making it a household-wide event so any member of the household can call for help or try to fight the burglar. The burglar and household members should have some appearance of intelligence or the tiniest bird brain even so they can recognize a person right beside them.

There should not be a wrong way to place doors in this game if there is zero indication on either side of the door that there is some correct orientation so burglars and visitors don’t enter the house to interact with the door! Your options are to make all doors open inward or outward (the preferred option for immersion. No one’s doors swing both ways except in restaurant kitchens and the like), or they should function like the side of the door facing the outdoors is the front of the door!

Yes, I’m upset that this event ruined my fun, failed my expectations completely in multiple ways, and ruined what could’ve been a cool thing to capture on video. Instead, I have a video in my series that shows just how bad some things are in this game, and that’s not my reason for sharing gameplay at all! My intentions are the exact opposite.

Unfortunately, despite promising to refine, improve and fix features already existing in the game, the team continues adding large new features (owning and operating a business!) rather than give attention to the parts of the game they promised to focus on.

Signed,
Reluctantly Disappointed Fan

P.S. Edit: Because of the bold portion of this post, I am not feeling particularly hopeful that there will be a fix or improvement in the issues I mentioned in this post, nor the many other issues reported by others. While I am happy that this game is being developed, it’s being built with bugs and issues on top of bugs and issues. This doesn’t bode well for the future of this game, in my opinion. Due to the development team doing the opposite of what was promised (fixing and improving existing features before adding new ones), I have lost trust in the development team.

If you don’t mind a cynical response, you have nothing to worry about these lazy burglar events. It’s just an annoying zoi who comes to make the game look like a disappointing joke.

Sorry, I am salty because this event shouldn’t have even been added yet. It seems like are stuffing in any and every idea people shout at them rather than put in time to make this the game it could be.

Promises broken and desperately throwing massive new features into the game means I don’t think you will need to worry about this burglar thing. I doubt it’ll even get any attention from the devs because they’re going to be flooded with requests to fix and improve the business feature they decided to spring on everyone.

Sorry again. I will stop ranting and try to focus on what I like about inZOI.

I’m fully with you.
It’s not just the burglar event - it draws through the whole game and I have no hope it’s going to get better.
I fear until final release it’s going on like this.
Half-baked features to appease the discord crowd and to lure in new players.
Buy inZOI! We have cars, court system, businesses and more! All in basegame!
But what are they going to do after buying the game and noticing how flat everything still is?
Rightfully complaining on SM and leaving devastaing steam reviews.
And then?
I don’t want the game I love so much going down the drain.
And if inZOI survives a messy final release it will keep on going on with the shallow content to somehow try to turn the tide while investors and publisher are sitting on their back.
I’d rather they’d work on the core before even thinking on ading new features (and bugs).
I know they promised this for next year, but what are they going to do if they only have a few more updates when Krafton pushes for a final release end of 2026?
Makes me so hopeless and sad.

I’m giving you multiple upvotes. Every other piece of my feedback is about refining or bringing back options that were part of the game’s USP, but which keep getting ruthlessly cut or overshadowed by quickly implemented player requests. Still, there are positive aspects too, since after the December update Kjun promised to return to fixing what already exists, as noted in the latest brainstorms. That said, since it’s still Monday, it would make more sense to publish this post not in the Wishlist section, but in the newest Brainstorm section on the forum. I’m not a mod, no, but it just seems more logical to me.

Agreed. It’s weird how fast they are to remove things, and how slow (if ever) they are to put it back.

Let’s write where it actually gets read – as separate posts in the brainstorms here. It’s just that while those who liked something were busy playing, those who didn’t like it were actively posting in Discord. Now it’s your move.

Well, I sound a bit categorical, I just don’t want to be toxic for long. I believe, if everyone posts their complaints right in the brainstorm section, it becomes more effective.
