Dear devs, we players beg you to revert everything pre 0.4.3… please, for the love of God, revert the eating time pre 0.4.3!
Agreed, maybe it’s okay in 48min day time, but it’d making the others (96min but especially 4hrs) miserable.
Even people that “don’t care” about this new issue actually go and cancel the eating animation as soon as the bar is filled-up.
But even barring the food thing, the game ran FAR more smoothly as far as needs go before 0.4.3.
I get it’s a work in progress, but it’s seriously annoying… Again, Not everyone plays the 48min day or wants to switch to it even if that’s the one that works the best since that patch.
As you can see, more and more of these suggestion/complaints are popping up.
It’s very unpopular to everyone else of your players.

Okay, I played a lot more with the new eating settings of last patch.
Not only the eating animation takes absolutely forever in the 4hrs time.
But honestly ? The Zois hunger bar fills way too fast as well.
Until 0.4.3, you could eat a Bibimbap or a Granola and it would still take a little time to refill the bar, the “pacing” on the action felt much MUCH better.
So there’s TWO problems.
#1- As stated by everyone, when zoi eat, they take far too long…
#2- The hunger bar fills at LEAST 3x too fast… Maybe even up to 5x too fast. If it lasted 5x the current to refill from empty to full, IMHO that would be correct.
I’d be happy for a fixed eating action taking 1/10th of the delay or something, with your original idea of “take no more than 30min” so 30min at most (which could help the 48min time, and maybe a future 24min day too).
But the replenish rate needs to be made 5x slower so a Zoi needs to sit a bit longer to be satiated.
Definitely needs adjustments, it feels really bad.
My tests were all performed in Bliss Bay under the 4hrs day length.

I posted details of this (including screenshots) in the bug report thread. It needs to be treated as a bug because that’s what it is, regardless of the developers’ intentions in changing the animation time. Eating is so fundamental to the game that it isn’t something that can just be overlooked for non-default day lengths.
I really hope they’re not going to stick with ‘this is intended behaviour’ as the response because that’s just not acceptable. If so, other people might have to start making their own separate bug reports until someone on the dev team gets the picture.
Absolutely agree. You grill a fishstick which is one tiny stick and it takes forever to be eaten. - I also don’t see any difference in eating chips vs. a whole meal concerning the hunger need. There’s a lot that can be done by using a moodlet or just decreasing the bar faster with certain types of food. It would also feel rewarding to cook if the hunger need stays filled longer.
In addition, the cleaning of plates after meals is taking too long since v.04 update.
I played some more in the 4hrs day yesterday.
Basically Zoi 1 gets out a plate of Bibimbap from the fridge and start eating.
Then when Zoi 1 ‘s hunger bar was full, I cancelled the eating and had Zoi#2 eat from it.
I was able to have all 6 of my child-and-older zois to eat from the same plate.
Next day I tried my glass of water theory… It filled the hunger bar completely.
I’m not playing right now in a big part because of this. I’m not interested in ghosts, or the shorter days. I would try again once they work that out.
I play in 96 minutes. It’s totally absurd that a zoi takes longer to eat than to write two complete books. With a glass of water, more than half of the hunger bar fills up. Anyway…, between that and the excessive reduction of needs, it’s becoming unplayable. If it weren’t for the free donuts mod, I would have stopped playing a long time ago.
Glad to see this issue is gaining momentum.
I hope the dev revise this change sooner than later.

I don’t know how it was before the updates, but for me right now, such a long eating duration is unacceptable. My day consists of 24 hours, and I spend as much time on my meals as my character does, and I eat 2-3 times a day, while they eat constantly. I want to play, not watch them poke their fork at their plate.

yes exactly, it’s “in the robot” maybe a simulation hour and it already goes to eat, or it has a business and suddenly eats the dishes it has for sale. The same with the need for sleep and using the toilet.
It’s not quite as bad as it was in the bugged Autumn update, but it’s still way too long for any day length above 48 minutes. The amount of Hunger regained is tied to the animation length, so Zois end up eating even light meals for long after their Hunger bar is fully refilled. The obvious solution is to return the animation length to 15 in-game minutes as it was before November, and instead have each meal restore Hunger at a fixed rate per minute depending on the meal’s level and quality.
Using the toilet should automatically end as soon as the Bladder need is full. For sleeping we should have several options: ‘sleep until fully rested’, ‘sleep for 1/4/8 hours’, etc.
